Not really. There are obviously degrees to which people/spirits can read someone's mind. Cole can't read Corypheus' mind for example, says that he's too loud and chaotic. And while he didn't lose his ability to read someone's mind, he does say that it has been affected by him turning more human. So Solas - since he's not a spirit - might simply tune into someone's emotions or whatever, but won't be able to read someone's mind like a book the same way spirit does.

 

Then there's of course a possibility that Solas is too principled to rummage around someone's head to any degree that would violate their privacy. Cole is young, inexperienced and people keep reminding him that what he does isn't always cool after all. And Solas is, by Weekes' description, "one of the staunchest believers in freedom of personal thought" and we see that being expressed in his conflict with Bull about the Qun, for example. So he might get glimpses of someone's personality or feelings simply due to his ancient-elfiness, but he won't pry any further if it's not necessary.

Solas is cool enough. I really don't think we have to make him an empath to boot.

 

...Also, wait, if the ancient elves could speak telepathically, why didn't Solas speak to Abelas telepathically? Or the other ToM elves? That would've saved us SO MUCH unnecessary murder. Just telepathically go "Yo ancient elves, I too am an ancient elf and we're not with the magister guy please stop throwing yourselves at us." 

 

At the very least that last conversation he had with Abelas could've been telepathically said because honestly that raised so many eyebrows.

 

...Also also, if Kieran and Mythal were speaking telepathically why did they slip into non-telepath for the end of their conversation? Why did Solas and Mythal speak at all instead of speaking telepathically? This really raises a bunch of questions.

If it was a power only Solas possessed I'd agree. But it isn't - it's not anything "Solas'y", but something "ancient elfy"... or rather "spirity", as well as possibly something most people could do in Veilless world. Abelas also tells us that he sees "a righteousness in Inky they cannot deny" which also doesn't seem like something he just guesses or deduces about them, but 'sees' in some way in them.

 

Then there's of course OGB Kieran. And Flemythal. Both of which make comments that sound like they see more than casual observer.

You need to consider game mechanics and storytelling.  You have to give the player *something* to go on instead of just two people staring at each other.  Not that I think Solas is telepathic or empathic - I don't think he can flat out read minds or sense the emotions of everyone around him.  He may be able to see or sense *some* things because of who and what he is (as midnightea says above it may be an ancient elfy thing).  Maybe they can read auras or something.  I agree that it's a bit much though to be adding full on telepathy and such to Solas when he's already as powerful as he already is.

It's a canon fact that he (and Dorian) can see or feel auras of energy coming off of objects or people without touching them and get information from it, I don't see why it wouldn't extend to reading something from the auras of people who are experiencing strong emotions:

• Solas: Yes. The effect clears magical energy and creates a minor randomized barrier to impair incoming magic.
• Dorian: Fascinating. It's a Tevinter technique. I've never seen anyone in this part of the world do it.
• Solas: The technique is not Tevinter. It is elven.
• Dorian: Oh! That means we... never mind, then.
• Solas: But do go on about the wonders of Tevinter magic.

That's not ... exactly what I meant by aura.  Those two references seem to deal with magic/magical effects.  I meant more like "reading auras" like some psychics claim they can do.  Looking at someone and seeing vague hints about their personality, possibly flashes of what they're feeling if the emotion is strong enough, that kind of thing.  I just don't think mages in general have the ability to read people like that, strong emotions or not.  Sure they can see if magic is involved which would be a type of magical aura.  Unless they're using blood magic which seems to give the ability to control people/read minds.

I'll admit, I wasn't crazy about that Solas hair mod at first but then it kind of grew on me because he does look pretty damn good.

Would someone explain why people always give Solas a mohawk?

He may have a wolf theme, but there is nothing "wild" about Solas. He is a sophisticated wolf, so to speak.

In fact, I don't understand the idea behind the clothes people like giving him either.





There is some... tribal thing going on. But why? He isn't Dalish. He is an ancient elf.
