Ah geez... so I went into one of the other threads and saw yet another Nicholas Cage is Solas meme... Hopefully once Bioware releases his character profile and some new pictures we can move on already?

 

Also, the more I think about it and see DaGaider's comments re: Solas, the more convinced I am he wrote him.  Especially since DaGaider says one of the characters is one he's always wanted to write, and is going to be really different from any companion we've seen previously.  (Was convinced he might be Dorian, but Dorian's personality, at least superficially, seems a bit like a cross between Zevran and DAA Anders.)

 

Somehow I can see Solas having a bit of Gaider's personality actually - at least his sense of humor.  Oh dear.

I don't want to assume anything yet, especially after the Cole reveal threw so many of us for a loop.

Mr Gaider did say over on Tumblr some time ago that the DA character that was most like himself was someone we hadn't seen yet.  And yeah, I've had a hard time not picturing Solas with some of his personality... 

 

Dorian's quote *was* very reminiscent of Zevran though, which made me wonder if sharing a writer had something to do with it...  

 

I suppose we'll know either way very shortly.

I kind of hope Gaider is not the writer, because as some others said, it may mean Solas is m/m exclusive.  Would far rather if Solas is an LI that he turn out to be bisexual and available to all who want him.  I hardly ever play male characters, so if he is m/m he'll be a bromance and most likely my Inquisitor will be celibate.  Dorian may be attractive, but arrogance is something I don't care for.  Would rather he not be my last option.

This is true... But, I keep seeing this assumption that Gaider wrote an m/m romance?  Just wondering what the source of that is.

I think it may be because Gaider said that he's writing a character that he's likely never written before. Most people are assuming a character being m/m is what he's talking about.

Could be something else though, like his personality we'll see

True, I just really prefer to play a woman, since there are relatively few games where that's an option.  And yeah, if Solas or Dorian are m/m only, I'd be willing to play a male character.  I just find female characters easier to get lost in, so to speak, since I can relate better.

So...I still think it's unlikely that Solas is gay, because I can't see them making both elves s/s exclusive. Maybe I'm wrong, it just seems like that would be an odd thing to do, given the general levels of elf love around here. If he's the character David was excited to write because he's the most like himself, it may have more to do with Solas turning out to be, say, quiet until you get to know him and EXTREMELY snarky when you do, and being just a unique character who doesn't fit any of the molds we've seen so far. Not to mention, I keep feeling like Solas's story is going to be an unusual one. I swear that's why they've waited...I really do think he must be quite important to the plot.

 

Then again, I had also thought his comment might mean he was writing an openly gay companion. It's not something you see very often, and making it happen is one of the reasons BioWare is pretty awesome, IMO. I still think Dorian is the most likely candidate for that (though I'll be tickled if he's bi, because while I will roll a dudequisitor at some point, I LOVE being able to play as a female, and Dorian's big gold eyes are just...*sigh*).

 

I wish they'd release that romance chart, because this is the kind of thing I'll spoiler myself silly on before the game if I can. ROMANCES REQUIRE PLANNING.

I thought it was David who wrote him from the beginning, but then people said that's impossible because David was writing Cole. But now we know that is wrong.

 

David always writes our male elves (and at least 1 love interest).

Yea I think everyone has their preferences. I can hardly see myself playing a female since I can relate much more to a Male. with Inquisition having so much variety though in both races and gender I feel almost compelled to play a female after a few male playthroughs just to see a difference. Now being a straight male and wanting to romance Cass, I'd say I'm one of the lucky ones who's not too worried about their romance being unavailable for the PC I plan to use. I do hope as many people are happy as possible though. From the, what...2 bits of information we have on him he sounds like he would be awesome to get to know romance or not 

 

Edit: Also don't forget that if Gaider is actually writing him expect the best options you can get. Most characters he's written are well loved. That is kind of why I am going to be satisfied if he's writing him.

Dave has a tendency to favor characters he's written on his tumblr, Dorian seem to have gotten a bit more attention from him than Solas, so I'm personally betting that he wrote Dorian.

Oh my god I can totally picture a bunch of little elf kids running around Solas now, just refraining him from doing anything at all. And we'd all be standing around squeeing and finding it really adorable. It would be pretty amazing, but I honestly think it would be more likely that he's so introverted or never been in society for such a long time that he'd be the guy who never kissed anyone or did "romantic stuffs". Don't worry Solas, that's what were here for.. Ok I'm done being creepy, I'll go stand in the corner over there now

Maybe he has children because he wanted to do his duty as an elf and that's why he married but it didn't work because he is a hermit. It could be also that he has only children because he wanted to do his duty as an elf.

 

I'm just speculating Most likely he doesn't have children and I base that on the fact that there hasn't been that many companions with children. I guess Oghren has a child and Loghain if you count him too.
