Jellyfish? Jellyfish are but animals. Enlightenment does not await them.
No, but I think the way they are small, individual pieces acting as a whole, unfalteringly, unquestioningly, would appeal to the qunari.

What puzzles me is that in DA:O, Sten tells you "women don't fight" and he seems genuinely confused that someone who fights is shaped like a woman. But Ben-Hassrath are fighters and they can be female. So what the qun says is really just that women can't be *soldiers*, not that they can't fight period.
Though this likely just a retcon because they hadn't developed the Qun when they wrote Sten's dialogue. Or Sten knows nothing about the BH
Their job is not to fight. It's to enforce. Ben-hassrath aren't front line fighters. They don't go into the thick of it to do their job. Their job they fight if they have to or need to. The soldiers like Sten their job first and form most is to fight with other secondary jobs with it.

They don't fight. They solve problems.
They both answer to the Ariqun, but they're separate entities. And the branch isn't named Ben Hassrath, just like the military branch isn't named the Beresaad.
Nope, Tamassran is a rank in the Ben-Hassrath.It's not separate, it's part of it.

Well, you said it yourself. He says women don't fight, he doesn't say they cannot fight. Sten comes from somewhere, where women have other responsibilities, it's understandable that he is confused about a new system in a new society.
Who said Ben-Hassrath are only fighters by the way? The wiki says they are priests, who can perform different duties. They can be assassins and so on, but they don't necessarily fight all the time. Female Ben-Hassrath have different specializations on top of that. I could imagine them having to learn how to fight (in a manner of protecting themselves, not solely combat-training), but being taught not to use too much violence (e.g. learning how to make the strategy of a mission, learning how to convince people as fast as possible, etc).
Yep, which is why Talis is not up for killing unless it's necessary.
No, but I think the way they are small, individual pieces acting as a whole, unfalteringly, unquestioningly, would appeal to the qunari.
My point was that it's still an analogy. Reality of being the a Qunari in the Qunari nation is not identical to being a single animal.

They don't all fight ya but there are Ben-Hassrath women who fight, and not just in a "knowing self-defense" way, Tallis (as much I dislike her) was a murder machine. But Sten comes across as thinking a female who fights at all is impossible, even though it exists in his culture, however rare it may be.
Though I had/have a theory that maybe Qunari have female soldiers but that since they fight in the army they're referred to as men. So following this, Qunari women can't fight but a "female man" can. Like a woman will be assigned a girly role but a tomboy can fill a manly role. I doubt this is actually correct but I think it's an interesting line of thought

No. It just the case just have that ability just in case they have to fight.(Look at the Tamassran in those who speak). Talis may be a death machine but she tries to avoid fighting is she can and is not a frontline fighter. They just don't have woman in their armies.

The devs and WoT have said this does happen but it's incredibly rare. For a woman to join the antaam, the Tamassrans would have to reevaluate her gender.

What in your link supports that they're not separate?
Look where is says ranks on the right hand side. Under the qun symbol.

Definitely not someone who fights

He fights now and his job is not to fight. Remember he's their to spy on you first and foremost.
This is pretty much what I said, the Qun actually says women can't be *soldiers*, not that they can't fight period.

Not a rank per se, but certainly a description of her position within the Ben-Hassreth-- who, by the way, fall under the Ariqun. Thus a soldier within the Qunari would consider them as priests.

Might be what the Qun says, isn't what Sten said to Leliana.
Where did the wiki people get that from? I looked through all of their source links, and there is nothing to suggest that they're part of the Ben Hassrath.
This is the closest thing I got to a connection to the ranks.
By David Gaider. It does not suggest that the Ariqun is a part of the Ben Hassrath, but that the Ben Hassrath are part of the priesthood.
You do know that a none answer. In the end it comes down to that they are all considered priest. Regardless to it they all control how qunari society functions one way of another.

But the only thing that the Ben Hassrath has been described to do is spying and such. I don't think that mapping genealogies is part of that.
I think that the wiki people have that one wrong.

What does he say ? I don't remember ever putting them together

But you did say that the priest hood technically don't have ranks.
Those that fall under the Ariqun are all priests. The Tamassrans and the Ben-Hassrath are two different divisions of the priesthood I think. Unlike the Antaam that serves under the Arishok, we haven't been given a Qunlat word that serves catch all term for them.
But you did say that the priest hood technically don't have ranks.
When did I do that? It has different branches, which have ranks in between them.

"Women are priests. Or merchants. [etc.] None of those have any place fighting."
So the issue is really just with Sten then, since women call also be secret police/spies, which can fight sometimes. Fighting can't be their main function but they can have a main function that involves fighting occasionally
