So it looks like IGN has shutdown the vault. Anyone know what happened?

I recently felt like playing some Nwn 2 mods (perfect timing apparently <_<). I was going to download Subtlety of Thay, and a few others, but the Nwn vault seems to be completely gone. A lot of those mods are so old they aren't even on the nexus!

Rolo Kipp warned of this a long time ago, and started archiving as much as he could on the his Vault. I don't know how much stuff he was able to archive before it went kaboom.

It's a shame; I remember the Vault being a community I frequented when I played Everquest, and later, EQ2. I even wrote for the EQ2 Vault for a while, and published some guides. Sad to see it go down, but it was coming.

All of it. I helped him and Pain via bandwith.

You guys rock kamal_.

Now if we can just find it on the new Vault. So far... I've had trouble navigating it.

Yeah - the navigation on the new vault leaves a lot to be desired. That's why I tend to use the Nexus site more often.

I don't think all the NWN2 stuff has made it to the new vault  yet

It's not all posted, as there was work being done on a migration wizard, but it's all sitting in archive.

I think I have most of the NWN2 stuff archived myself on a hard drive or 2 somewhere, but not sure I got it all I may have just gotten stuff I thought I might use at some point :P

<panting...>

Kamal has the right of it. All the old content through last July is archived (in no less than 4 different places) and sorta waiting for the Vault Storage System to be completed, which would tie into Pain's Neverlauncher and make everything so damned simple... But there's a last 10% or so of php/drupal scripting that needs to be done and I'm not knowledgeable enough to complete it... yet.

In the meantime, we rely on *you*, the people who *want* this stuff to help us pick and choose what to prioritize.

Post the projects you want/need first on the NwN2 Files Wanted forum, and if we've got it, one of us will upload the stuff.

Even better, give us a head start and create the project yourself (if it isn't there already) and upload the files or whatever info you have.

We (the admins) will switch the project to the appropriate author ("Migrate Wizard" if the author hasn't registered yet) and when we have time, we'll flesh out the project with the other stuff we have archived.

The more you help, the quicker the whole shebang is back up to snuff.

As for navigating the new Vault, I do suggest using the catalog and setting your search parameters.

Conversely, to find all the content of any author, use the contribs menu to the left.

One of the biggest differences between the old and new Vault is this one is completely in the community's hands. *We* (you and I and some other guys over there) are building it, tweaking it, contributing to it. You don't like something? Jump in and help us change it.

<...like some over-heated gnomish contraption>

One thing that amazes me is that there are so many people that have spent hours and hours pouring their hearts into something then they just stuck it on the vault and forgot about it. Without the efforts of Mr Kipp and co that would be gone forever not just due to IGN but also their lack of interest.

People just move on to new challenges. I've got a boatload of old stuff I generated for PnP games, but I never bother with it any more.

I know what you mean but something on a website that is beyond your control and was made for the world to play needs a bit more "monitoring" than a pile of books in a cupboard. I'm just surprised that more stuff didn't get ported over to the Nexus as a back up just in case what's just happened did and Mr Kipp and co. didn't exist.

Perhaps because it's just not a very interesting task. But yes, it needs to be done.

I don't know what the "few others" were and I would not question the quality of Subtlety of Thay but if you are back after a long break then get yourself to Crimmor or freeze your beans of in Icewind Dale. There is sooooo much to play that uses the very best custom content and story telling that it would be a shame to play something you have played before and miss out of the stuuf that has been created in the last few years.

Heh, he's too modest.  If you haven't tried "Tales from the Lake of Sorrows" yet you are in for a treat.  :)

Either the vault lost a significant amount of content for NWN2 or I don't know how to access it. I had a significant amount of content on my hard drive but it got badly corrupted when my motherboard  blew up. After getting my new system up and running I went to the vault to find the old content, but I was unable find a great deal of what I had lost. The New Vault is very difficult to navigate. Alas, hopefully we can recover much of the content in the future.

[No longer works, sorry] Potential Workaround:

(Edit: Missed this mention in General Discussions: http://forum.bioware...#entry16822533)

If not already known, but thanks to a few skilled web developers on ign forum, and posted originally by Magical Master from the NWN Boards, there is a workaround to view Neverwinter Vault again. The issue is probably due to a redirection or server configuration error.

Head to the post on ign.com (http://www.ign.com/w...save=successful) and the first post you see should give you the details. If not, this is the summary on what you need to do.

------------------------------------------------------------------

(Note on windows vista, 7, and perhaps 8 as well, you need 'admin' permissions on your notepad to do this)

Open up 'Notepad' program (with admin permissions, right click notepad shortcut icon and choose 'Run as administrator,' if Windows)

 - click open and open up:

  - C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Just paste this on the bottom of that hosts file:

69.10.25.55     nwvault.ign.com

Now, clear your cache on your browser(firefox, chrome, safari, etc), you may have to google how to do it for some.

Finally, just go back to 'http://nwvault.ign.com/' and you should be able to view the site. I've tested it myself and it works, but as this may be temporary, I would take advantage of it while it lasts.

Did your contact confirm that this is the end?

Sorry for the confusion, PJ156. I have no more knowledge than anyone else.

Here was the original link to the fix: (Sorry, I incorrectly assumed that all links were leading to this page, but seems the normal nwvault.com link, before this temporary fix, is in flux, which is probably because it is just linking to the most recent post on that forum.)

Just reposting what Magical Master from the NWN Boards posted on the link above, but still, I'm glad it helped.

Thanks to the migration folks -- I JUST got my decks cleared to refresh myself on how to make a quest work, and bam! All the tutorials gone.  lol.  You guys are a project-saver.

Seraphimsage,

The site worked for a couple of days but now the site comes up with no graphics. If you try to download a file you get the message "dns error". I was hoping it was only temporary but the problem seems to persist. Are other people having the same problem with the vault page? If I get another opportunity I am downloading everything because I don't trust IGN.
