The vault contained years of work and content. It is a shame if all of that is now lost. Is there any chance we could retrieve some of the content?

All of it was saved to be put on the New Vault. Not all of it is currently uploaded to the new vault yet though, but people are working on it. here is a link http://neverwintervault.net

Seraphimsage,

The site worked for a couple of days but now the site comes up with no graphics. If you try to download a file you get the message "dns error". I was hoping it was only temporary but the problem seems to persist. Are other people having the same problem with the vault page? If I get another opportunity I am downloading everything because I don't trust IGN.

"UPDATE 02-Jul 15:16 BST - the workaround previously listed below no longer seems to be effective.  We do not appear to have any access to the old vault in terms of actual downloads.  Look for content on the new vault listed above and, if you're feeling inclined, help upload to it." -  Proleric

Yeah, looks like it's gone, or at least that method for accessing it. If it is gone permanently, I do not know, I guess, wait and see.

It doesn't look good. The vault had problems since long time now, and we all need to thank kamal and Rolo Kip who saved most of the stuff. They say all, but it seems too good to be true  . If it is actually all saved, then we just need to be patient until uploaded. If not all is saved, maybe each one of us has something in his possession that evaded these two. At least I have a collection of prefab areas and script sets. So if they need I can provide them of course.

It's gone. Get over it. It's not resting. It's not pining for the fjords. It's dead. It's not an accidental DNS mistake. Admin accounts on it were disabled. http://forum.bioware...et-modules-now/ Rolo, the last person with admin, stopped administering it because the admin pages are filled with malware. http://neverwinterva.../jun/thats-wrap

Pining for it to return again is like asking for your ex-boyfriend who has beaten you twice already to take you back.

Seriously, It's not like we haven't know they were shutting down for a long time. Here's the archive.org archive of the site with the notice that it was due to pending site shutdown, from 2013. https://archive.org/...nwvault.ign.com

You want to do something about it? If you know web programming stuff message Rolo_Kipp  and offer to help. Most especially he could use help with getting the migration wizard running properly so it can post the vault archive to the new site.

I am with Kamal_ let's make vault II our home and leave IGN to whatever they do.

We were very lucky to have people in the community with the foresight to create vault II, with support this need not happen again.

I have already, since long time now not downloaded anything from the old vault. Nexus works fine for new entries. The new vault, is as Pj said the new home. It will take some time, mainly because Rolo uploads NWN1 stuff too, and I think it takes priority at the moment. But our turn will come so don't worry. As kamal said, any help would be great. Shame, I don't know such things myself.

kamal, can you say how many things were saved? Or is it just a mess of files at the moment to know? I mean, is it just modules, or also haks, prefabs etc?

I am not sure what they all saved but I have most of the NWN2  files in most of the categories from the old Vault saved myself (though I didn't get screenshots when I saved them) and have started helping posting them to the new vault but I'm having to go through each one and get new Screen shots so it is slow going.

Everything. The scaper that was written saved by vault category and we got every single category, even things like fan art and movies, all the entries comments, all the votes. Everything.

That's why getting someone who does web programming to finish the migration wizard stuff is important. With that we could have the entire contents of the Vault back up as quickly as we can upload.

I have at least three friends who do this for a living, but unfortunately they are not playing NWN2, or are members of the community. I will try to persuade them in talking at least to Rolo. They might not play NWN2, but they are heavy gamers all of them. Perhaps the soul will speak. Except of course, if a member of the community IS actually a web programmer, which renders my friends as not needed :).

Ah, it's OK. It will be up at some point and we'll all be happy. I guess most people were stressed let's say, because the old vault is what they knew, or they didn't know Rolo's new vault.

i designated myself as kamal_'s acting second on the day of The Big Scare a year ago. so yes we got EVERYTHING.

Pain's scraper scraped and re-scraped multiple times until IGN clued in and closed our access -- but it was too late. We got it.

If i need something I wouldn't hesitate to ask Rolo et Co. to manually add it to Vault2 for public access .....

( ofc it's kinda hard to search in its current state, )

I don't know how this works but don't the authors of the original stuff have to be asked first to have it put on a new website because quite frankly I'd be a bit pissed off if my modules got stuck in places I didn't upload them to. There was a company a while back that took some modules and put them on their website and nobody was happy about that so although the new vault is sort of linked very loosely to the old one it's still rude not to ask.

well, although I'm not going to become a lawyer over this ...

what Vault2 does is different, imo from somebody who just grabs a few things they like and re-offers them on their own site. The boys have been careful to emulate, to some extent, the original presentations at IGN -- at least concerning Authors and Descriptions. So it's more of a mirror and does (... should eventually do) what a mirror is supposed to do

rude? heck no: flattering yes!  /jk, it is what it is

There was an official news item on the old Vault stickied at the top of the new stuff saying vault 2.0 is the Vault archive, so the new vault is more an inheritor than anything. Here's a screenshot of the current dead vault with the announcement. That news item has been stickied there for six months or so.

https://dl.dropboxus...lt_guidance.jpg

We actually made a thread here on these forums to invite everyone to discuss just this sort of concern last year when the vault went down the first time. We got input from ten or so veteran authors from both nwn1 and 2 on what the community felt would be best in terms of rights assignment and such.

I just wondered that's all, so will I be able to access my stuff even if I don't upload it ?

If someone else uploads it (such as the migration wizard that needs work to work), you will be able to claim it. The procedure for that has been set up. iirc it works via your personal contact information from the old vault.

Of course you can always upload your own stuff. Highly encouraged :-)

Thank you, I'll have an investigation in the future about uploading because I don't want voting anymore.

We may be getting it back. See here.

I don't think it's at all intended to be rude; it's just an effort to make sure the content is still accessible. If somebody said in their notes that they do not want it transferred to another site, then that would be different. However, many of the original authors have moved on, so trying to contact everybody, in addition to putting in the effort to save the content, is perhaps asking a bit much. If you don't want your content on the new site then contact Rolo. :)

<taking a second or two...>

Many interesting things...

We have *almost* everything as of July 2013. Some screenshots were corrupted and some comments dropped and a few, very few files are missing (may have been pulled).

This archive exists in full or part in 4 different places with some additional redundancy starting up.

The archive includes an xml metadata file for each project, each project (index.html, files, screenshots and comments) is in it's own folder with the metadata.

The metadata will be used to access a CRUD API in drupal to check for existing projects, create or update projects.

Pain's Neverlauncher was also being integrated into this storage system.

Re permissions: This is a community built/owned/run site, literally financed by this community's donations. It is *fanatic* about author rights. That being said, I asked for and received written permission from IGN to create the neverwintervault and take over from their "sunsetted" servers. As an affiliate, and specifically as the last site admin, I have permission to publish anything that was contributed to the old Vault.

Having said that, the new Vault strives to be clearer about licensing and author rights.

Tsongo, you want something pulled, let me know. You want ownership of your own stuff, let me know that. I'd love to give it to you :-)

You (any of you ;-) want it built differently, jump in and help develop it :-)

A couple more interesting links...

As for Nwn1 being my priority, sorry, but that's an impression fostered by the sheer amount of nwn1 stuff.

Lately, in fact, I've found myself doing a lot of nwn2 stuff simply because I can finish a batch in a few hours.

While I *know* nwn1 stuff far better than nwn2, I want it *all* :-) I'm greedy that way.

Evenin' all. A mate sent me this link and was under the impression that I might be of some sort of service. I'm not going to lie to you and say that I'm some master web programmer or anything like that. I'm actually a novice at best. Still going to school for my Associates Degree. However, if you think I might be of some use to you, let me know and we can talk it out.

Mr Kipp.. I didn't want anything pulled as it's better to have more access to more content for people. I just wondered how you go about changing people's work from one web site to another without permission but it seems you have that and in a way the new vault is more like a remodelling of the old one and not a new web site or company.

One thing you could do though is scrap my modules having comments and votes from now on as that was what I really hated about the vault.. And IGN's involvement of course but they were both necessary evils.

Keep up the good work and I hope it all goes well and also that you can have a well deserved rest one day safe in the knowledge you have saved heaps of people's hard work and given the opportunity for lots of players to enjoy themselves on wild and wonderful adventures.

<looking a bit...>

I can turn off comments individually for any project, though it's a lot easier for me to just follow a link and edit than to try to remember that *when* your projects get put up to edit them :-P (Just saying it would be nice if you registered so I can watch for Tsongo (or whatever) projects...)

The voting is mostly a placeholder for now and pretty lame :-P (sheepish admission - can't turn it off yet)

It *will* have the author opt-out feature... eventually. But everything is still growing up.

I think we're about at the cutting our teeth and being very annoying and frustrating age :-)
