Remember back when there was no such thing as a DLC?   You just bought, played, & finished the game.

Then some one had the brilliant idea to ADD a new episode to an already cool existing game.

Now guess what?  We (consumers) just SCREWED ourselves to the wall.   Games are now sold INCOMPLETE so we must buy the DLC to [really] finish it.

I'm one to always shoot holes in LABELS folks put on things & slogans.

No, you are NOT what you eat -- you are what you eat, digest, & assimilate; otherwise kids that swallow marbles would turn to glass.

Likewise, a DLC is really the Remainder Part of the Game (new meaning of RPG).

"thats just a rumor, though -- no need to go spreading it around"

I have to respectfully disagree.  Back in the day, before DLC?  Huge chunks of content would get cut or otherwise set aside and then never see the light of day.  Expansion packs were rare because they often:

  • Took as long to develop as the main game
  • Cost as much to develop
  • And cost as much as the base game to the consumer
  • And if they flopped, the damage was just as great

DLC lets developers create far more content then they can use, and sell it to us in smaller pieces.  Yes, it's probably a nickel-and-diming thing price-wise.  But, it lets them take less risk (because if a DLC flops it's not a huge damaging blow to the company) and from a marketing standpoint it keeps customers interested in the given product.

Javik for example?  If he hadn't been made into DLC he wouldn't be in ME3 at all.

Period.

So it's not selling an incomplete game, it's making a game that's too big, and then setting aside the parts you have to leave out so you can use them later.

DLC started off being a genuine fan service at a reasonable price. Then it became a money grab, strip down as much as you can from the game and sell it asap. Competitive shooters set the bar when it came to DLC. No map packs? Harder to get a game. No weapon packs? Prepare to be slaughtered. Now we have people demanding that weapons and maps be sold instead of giving them away for free. Because "if you want to play competitively you should have to pay" it's insane.

I don't mind paying for the DLC if the content is good, or the armor looks cool, or the weapons\powers kill bad guys in fun new ways. I get my money's worth out of it most of the time.

From ashes is mandatory just doesn't make sense not to get it.
Citadel is freaking awesome and amazing and wrex. Loads of fun and is great to play right before the final mission.

Now this is where the optional dlc start
Omega is for people who love the combat system love guns new weapon mods action and aria is a badass. I'm planning on getting this.

Leviathan is more story oriented and will help you understand the ending and reapers more for me idk doesn't tickle my fancy.

Sometimes I feel like the only person who actively hates Citadel. Only reason I keep it around is Thane and Miranda content.

I Youtubed it and had no desire whatsoever to get it. Fair enough if people like the humour and fanservice, but it was just cringeworthy to me.

Interesting point of view.  Thank you.

ME1 - no DLC

ME2 - about 6 DLCs (some major & minor)

ME3 - about 12 DLCs (some major & minor)

I began to see a pattern.

Thanks SporkFu, I'll look into that & see if that is obtainable (on Steam) -- or perhas I already have & don't know it.

The pattern is still there:  2-6-12

ME2 had more than 6 DLCs if we count the weapon/appearance packs.

With the trilogy release, BDtS and Pinnacle Station are free on Origin. Couldn't see them on Steam.

In that case, I'll have to do a mind-meld SYNTHESIS with Origin and purchase ME1 (again) & get the goodies.

Thanks again.

You don't have to buy ME1 again, just copy the steam install over to your origin games folder. You already bought the game once, you have the license for it.

Happy to help. Once you copy the game over to origin, just open origin and click on "add game" ... enter your ME license and you should be good to go. It should also automatically download and install the DLCs for you.

Can't believe we're helping someone get Pinnacle Station....:D

Thought ME2 had more premium DLC than ME3. A lot of the ME3 DLC was free MP stuff wasn't it?

I've done two or three plays of ME1 since installing Pinnacle Station. Played it for three minutes.

I enjoyed pinnacle station for what it is, and the apartment at the end is nice...it actually lets you spend that 9,999,999 credits on something ;)

The Pinnacle Station dlc is not available for the ps3 unless that has changed recently. I'm not worried about it though.

In my brief experience with it, I just felt like I didn't want to grind it out. Maybe I'll give it another chance... Maybe.

I never got one of the alternate appearance packs in ME2, the one with Jack's jacket I believe. That and PS will forever be mysteries to me.

I tried doing that last year with my old DVD box PC copy but it didn't work. Maybe now that they've changed/added stuff it will work now. Will have to try.

As long as you can enter your license number when you click on "add game" it should work. Try restarting origin afterwards, maybe? When I did that, origin tried to download the game. Stop the download, delete it from origin's download queue, and manually install to whichever folder origin created for the download. Then, restart origin again.
