Y Love RPG's! Both, custom Tabletop, and the Story driven PC Game. These two worlds colide a lot. Like... Ideias from a game end up going to a tabletop and the other way around. Yve played D&D fo like 10 years and in that time i maybe have killed 2 or 3 aboleths. (Not the usual cave moster since he is very strong, and difficult to bring down. Also most of people dont like underwater games) Anyhow i never realized how Reapers and aboleth have much alike and the leviathan DLC made it even closer:

Aboleths - Reapers
1º Have mind control powers - Have mind control powers
2º Tentacle things that came out from theirs Mounths - Cybernetic tentacle things that shoot lasers and grab stuff
3º Talk with telepathy - Talk with telepathy and awesome voices
4º They have a all knowing shared mind. - They are a share of lifeforms Minds
5º Ancient as hell (Saw the creation of gods) - Ancient as hell (Saw countless creations of worlds)
6º Live on the deep oceans - Lived on the deep oceans
7º Harverts humans so he can laern more - Harverts humans & Aliens so they can have more knowledge

Thats it... My Theory is not depreciative to bioware guys. I love you guys and i know that having a oroginal ideia now a days its hard. Actualy is quite impossible, but its not what you do. Its How you do it and i can say: SPACE ABOLETHS ROCK!!!

P.S. Sorry for my english. Its not my common lenguage.

Interesting idea, although I think it's more likely that both D&D and Bioware are drawing from common source material: namely, H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos. I've also heard Saberhagen's Berserker novels listed as a potential source, although I've never read them (apparently, the name Qwib Qwib from ME2 is a direct reference to the Saberhagen novels).

Yeah, this is the most likely, especially considering the reference made to Cthulhu in Mass Effect 2, during the Reaper IFF mission.
