No banter while riding mounts... :(

I don't plan on using mounts. I intend to explore the massive regions on foot, and then use the fast travel system to get to places quickly.

I for one always thought that foreplay was overrated.

WEll that's a huge disappointment, why do rpgs that do mounts always have to do them half-way? No mounted combat usually, they can't swim (horses can swim), and no disappearing companions.
I mean look at skyrim, the MODDERS did it, yet Beth couldn't and now Bioware can't.
To me having companions ride on mounts (even if it's just a generic horse and that's that) would just look/feel sooooooooo much better then some random "disappearing" that probably isn't explained and makes no logical sense.
Why not take the four months or so and try to flesh that out?
I mean mount and blade can do it and mmorpgs have had simple follow/sticky commands for 15+ years, I find it a bit hard to believ ethat a AAA studio backed by a huge publisher like EA couldn't get companions on mounts that followed behind the player.

If it is difficult in terms of physical space it sounds like the last gen consoles may be a part of the reason as to why they couldn't make it work.
I also doubt mounts are only usable in select few areas where there is no party banter. That kind of solution just make no sense to me. All zones are decent in size and thus it makes sense you can use a mount almost everywhere you want to go. How would the developers even explain you can't mount up in certain areas only because it can trigger party banter? I just can't see this happen.
Anyway, with companions disappearing I see no use in using a mount, unless I am absolutely forced to do so, which I can see happen with the saving the village and keep scenario. I much rather don't use a mount at all though, not the way it currently works. For me a mount is a wasted feature the way it is implemented currently.
I agree it SHOULD be possible, however at alpha stage, it may be difficult to bring mounts to all the companions as it probably would involve a lot of graphic design work to get all the mounts to sit right with all the NPC's especially if there has been no NPC mount design work done yet. It would be like having to do all the armor customization per companion again. However, presumably activating the voice track in as though you were walking would be a lot easier as it is already there.
I agree the main time I would be tempted to go for a mount, would be time sensitive missions i.e. one where we are under attack. But ironically those are the missions where it would be good to get that companions dialogue the most ie. having Varric go "we are almost out of time" or go "we'll never make it etc," making you feel that time is of the essence.
I'm sure the banter will become repetitive at some point, there aren't infinite lines of dialogue. Once I'm satisfied I've heard them all I'll probably use my mounts much more frequently.
Based on the last two games there is a lot of banter,... particularly as a lot of it is based on which combination of three team members you have, the banter also updates depending on which quests you have completed. Waiting for over 50-100 to bring out your mounts just seems like such a wasted opportunity .

I'm not sure they'd have to do more work in terms of animations/adjustments for companions and mounts.
Seeing as how the player can be different races, etc they have already got to have that work done to account for each mount having a different race riding it, different sizes, etc.
It's more a matter of just having the AI pathfinding to stick with the player as he rides around, which isn't something extremely hard to do as far as giving them the simple AI to follow the player and ride/walk where he goes, but on a mount instead.

Based on the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about romancing Iron Bull.

I think he was referring to companion mounts, which is really easy to do in the Creation Kit.

So by now I am sure everyone has heard that there will be no party banter while riding mounts as the party disappears into the ether while riding. Now I have to admit, when they announced there would be mounts and awesome ones at that (hello zombie horse, water/nug buffalo, giant moose, possibly a wyvern, and fingers crossed a halla) but in light of this new info I have to make a choice.
A HARD choice.
Which do I like more.
The idea and awesomeness of riding these creatures.
OR
One of the biggest staples that Bioware has built themselves on (IMO)-The party interaction and banter while travelling.
To tell the truth I will probably not ride a mount at all on my first playthrough, just because I love the party banter so much. Maybe on subsequent plays but for the first one I want to bond and feel my teammates interaction not just with each other (DA2) but with me as well(which will be great).
So, my question to you all here, is, will you sacrifice party banter for riding? Or riding for party banter? Just curious what everyone will be doing in light of this info.

This is news. I will not sacrifice party banter for riding. Unless I can get some kind of confirmation that everyone is done talking for the time being, I won't risk it.

Hard decision. I'm sure there are places where mounts are necessarily allowed (cities for example) and the party banter might be a bit thicker. For me it would depend. If I know I have a long way to go, mount. If not, might try to get a bit of banter in but if it turns out that the banter is a little light while I'm walking, I'll probably hop back on the mount.

Same reply I gave to the OTHER thread on this EXACT same topic...
Guys, have a LITTLE faith in the devs?
Knowing that banter is a big deal, do you really think they would build the game to exclude it?
Remember, banter is keyed to trigger at specific locations. It's quite likely that you can't be mounted in those locations anyway, or at least are close enough to points of interest that you are unlikely to be mounted at that spot.
I seriously doubt they would say, "Here's a long boring stretch of terrain, in which 99% of people will be mounted to ride through. Perfect spot for banter that no one will hear."

mayb u can't have everyone mounted because it's on ps3, xbox360 which when I first heard of this game wasn't meant to be on them. so they defiantly are sacrificing things to get it on those platforms for the extra cash they will be making

As I said in the Twitter thread, party banter will likely not occur that often in the open countryside. Think about how DAO and DA2 handled banter; it generally occured right at the entrances of areas or in spots where you were unlikely to encounter enemies. Banter trigger points will probably be tied to settlements and areas where you have to dismount, like when you're entering a cave or a house.
Mounts will still be very valuable when re-visiting old areas, particularly for avoiding lower-level enemies that are just an annoyance to you.

I think banter will be saved for missions and when your in a town city cave banter won´t happen out in the open.

I really don't see why this is a problem for people. The maps are big, and the mounts exist to get from point A to point B, but it's not like you would NEVER be on foot and would never encounter party banter.
It's actually probably more likely that there wouldn't even be any party banter cues while you're walking around the middle of nowhere, so you might as well ride a horse.

I never said it was a "problem" for me I was just asking people what they thought and how they felt about this. It is a choice and one that I am deciding to walk for given the circumstances. That's all.

Anyways, I ain't too concerned about the lack of mounted banter.
