I think it'll be fine. It means that you'll hear banter when you're in "explore-mode," and playing at a more casual pace. But when you're in a rush, you can use your mount, and not worry about missing on on interesting banter that you weren't paying attention to cos you were rushing, because it will play at some other point when you're not mounted.

Right now when I play, I often times stop walking when a banter starts, cos too many times have I walked into combat or something during a banter and missed the whole conversation.

So I choose to view it as helping us manage when is a good time for us to hear banter.

Well it's been made clear that the party members will disappear into the ether when you hop onto the mount anyway, so I doubt many people will be making use of it.

Me? I'm going to be running around, because screw not having banter or followers scattering around you like flies caught in a windowsill. Plus, the opportunity to jump off cliffs I thought were safe but turned out to be fatal is just too darn tempting.

edit:

The mounts will not have a separate inventory, or increase inventory. This was confirmed on the Raptr Q&A.

im kinda sad they disappear also. its kinda weird. like really weird. but oh well. I'm sure it'll be okay and we'll get to hear all the hilarious and deep thoughts our companions have.

altho i hope like someone said earlier that they'll banter in places where its triggered and a mount isn't needed.

Since there's multiple types of mounts, I really would have liked to see your companions riding the mounts you weren't using. I always think it a shame that in games with multiple mounts, most of those mounts just end up sitting in your inventory or stable and never get used.

Pretty much this.  In my first time in an area I find I don't spend much time on my mount as it is as I'm usually exploring.  But when I need to get somewhere in a hurry, it's there for me.

I kind of figured this when they announced mounts. That your party would just dissapear when you mount which is really sad for a 2014 game.

Personally, I think I'll walk the world. It'll bring me back to the Dragon Age roots where there were no such things as mounts anyway. So just to clarify, out companions disappear when we're on a mount? GamerMD83 (on YouTube) made it sound like they would have their own mounts, since they told her..

You don't know how many times I wanted to gnaw something out of frustration in DA2 when banter would start up and two seconds later we would be in combat. So. Many. Times. I hope that will be different in DAI.

I still don't get why companions can't have mounts when NWN had them. Very late in the game's life, and many patches and updates later... but still. I guess it's a cost thing, or something with how the engine works?

Oh well...

That's all well and good, but it doesn't really explain why the companions have to disappear when riding on a mount. Even if they don't have banter, the fact that they just vanish into thin air is going to break immersion for a lot of role players. It might seem silly and nit-picky, but that's BSN for ya :P
