Yeah, I know I'm just a little bit late to the party... but I'm not really a great player like many here. In fact, I'm probably the highest-ranking lolsilver player in the world. Yay me.

The title is also a bit misleading since I have actually done solos before, but they were all using the kroguard/krolord vs geth. That scenario is so basic even I could do it. So what this post is really about, is that I finally managed to complete a gold solo without using a krogan or fighting the geth.

Not that this was a super-hard setup or anything. I chose reapers/Vancouver with the asari huntress, so that I could Dark Channel stuff and run away. For a middlingly mediocre player like me, that still provided plenty of brown-pants moments. Objectives were devices/devices/pizza; I died twice on wave 3 and thought about abandoning it there, but somehow I made it to wave 11 with one medigel and one rocket left. I got taken down again, forcing me to use that last gel, and then a ravager rocket healthgated me while I was running through a bunch of swarmers. It would have been exquisite to have died to swarmers on wave 11, but again I somehow survived.

My weapon was the CSMG with extended mag, power magnifier and AP IV ammo, which is like a frikkin' laser beam. No Acolyte, partly because I find it slightly cheesy, mostly because I can't handle charged weapons (that's how mediocre I am). I doubt it would have made a lot of difference; one DC + Warp + biotic explosion was enough to take down a banshee, and the only other shielded unit is marauders who die fast enough. The biggest danger was probably ravagers, who could shieldgate me with one rocket and healthgate with the next, and this was with a Cyclonic IV. If I ever do this again I might use an Adrenalin mod instead.

Final time ~54 minutes (stop laughing pls). In all the excitement I forgot to take a pic.

I like the Huntress with the Prothean Particle Rifle + Warp IV Ammo.  Melts enemies really well.

For solos I tend to enjoy center hacks in London more than devices.

 

Tossing out favorite Huntress setups? I really like using the Collector Sniper Rifle with Warp Ammo. No Fondue for me.

54 minutes? Me, laugh? I ran my solo golds on Giant against Reapers with a Turian Cabal.

Took me over 2 hours (mostly running from Banshees while whittling down the wave budgets), but I got it done. Eventually.

P.S. That was over two hours for the first solo. Second one took less than two, but not by much.

edit - actually, I respect the OP for this. Gold can be difficult and a lot of players aren't ready for it but most choose to play it anyway and those are the people who give pugs a bad name

That's my default setup as well. Reegar + Incendiary IV is when I'm feeling cheap

Congats, 54 minutes is fine for a first gold solo especially with double devices on a harder map like Vancouver.

I used the Huntress for my first solo on all difficulty levels. I use the Claymore with her 99% of the time.

Nice work! My gold solos were with the Jug, I didn't have the confidence to try it with any less of a crutch.

I've been playing silver here and there lately when I get tired of dropping into the same terrible gold lobbies over and over.

On topic, congrats OP. 54 minutes isn't too bad on a big map like Vancouver, with double devices. My first gold solo took me 53 minutes, on Rio...

I used to do that, too...until I gave a fack about it and started testing new weapons on Gold with the Juggy and no consumables. Not an ethical thing to do, I know, but...

 

Sometimes it even worked really well. A couple of times I ended up 2nd with 100k+. Another couple of times....30-40k

Plat solo isn't necessary for lone wolf. 2 golds will do.
