EA doesn't have enough Madden-Money or Battlefield-Bucks to toss BioWare's way so they can model a sheath? C'mon son, its the next gen now, step it up.

Not a sheath. The sheaths. See, I like how they went about it in Witcher 2. But. They've only got swords there, and iirc only Geralt had sheaths. In DA you have staves, axes, hammers (hopefully), bows, crossbows Bianca (there's only Bianca), daggers—in addition to swords (not to mention that even swords alone vary wildly comparing to Witcher).

So it's not about "gen". It's about the unholy amount of work for a very little gain. It's nice what they can do for Witcher with its razor-sharp focus, but I personally would rather have more variety in weapons over the miniscule details like sheaths.

(So many edits, dammit I feel dumb.)

Just curious how many games have sheaths? the only ones I can think of are the witcher 3 and bound by flame...

Edit: now that I think about it. I think assassins creed(the first one) had sheaths and shadow of mordor will(I think?). Both of these games have kind of set swords. meaning you cant just change sword left and right. so that allows each sword to have their own sheaths. In DA there's a bunch of different sword designs. Some are curved and some straight. So a universal sheath wont work and creating a sheath for every single sword design doesn't seem worth it. And that's all not including all the other types of weapons.

TES had scabbards since Oblivion at least. Maybe Morrowind, but I'm not sure.

Skyrim had sheaths for one-handed weapons held in the right hand.

Honestly, I really don't give two shits whether or not DAI has sheaths.

The "sheathes" would have to end up similar to Bound By Flames to support the different weapon types right?

Sheathes are a nice addition, but not a game breaker. A lot of games cut corners like that, and that's okay as long as the core is good.

if it does(cant remember), its only for the right hand and axes/maces don't get anything. Neither does any weapon that goes on the pc's back. So its not a very comprehensive list that gets them.

I only know of mods adding tons of sheaths.

Also there's nothing to complain about with DAI DAO and DA2 still had all weapons sheathed on the back while DAI has 1Her sheathed at the hip. That's already a huge improvement.

They could try to make some weapons look more realistically fastened somehow and not obviously floating but I feel like sheaths for every weapon is a bit much to ask. They could do what TES do but it's not a priority for me as long as it looks ok.

Is Cassandra's sword sheathed here or is it just what the sword looks like?

Spoiler

Anyway it looks like 1h swords are now carried on the hip, this looks better in my opinion.

I would say it is.... it looks brown and if my theory is correct, blades aren't brown. That or its either made of wood or really rusty. And ya I agree shield on back/sword on hip does look better

I just want them to be touching the character's body rather than floating near it. It doesn't even have to have a sheath/quiver. :(

The no quiver(yet?) bothers me but I don't care about the weird floating weapons...The Sheath Sound though, bothers me to no end.. If there is a lack of sheath there should be no sound for it....

Don't care about it for this game.

IMO should be planned for the next game. It'll be time. I'll want it then.

I always found it funny to see a Shield and 1 handed weapon floating on a persons back but detracted abit from the detail for me, even Quarter Staffs hanging from a Mages back always seemed out of place as most mages use their staffs as a walking stick.

I've seen some Asian movies where the monk's carry their quarter staffs on their backs but with a strap they unto very quickly in battle sequences.

Be nice to see quivers, sheathes and such.

It doesn't particularly bother me but I can see how it can bother others. I get a kick when people incorporate it into cosplay via magnets or have some kind of floating effect. I've gotten so use to it I consider it a bit of an endearing quirk of the series. Float on.

so you would rather see sheathes floating in air? because other wise they would have to make it so the sheath models fuse to the armor models.

While it is an issue, - for me, it fades to insignificance in relation to other issues I have with design elements in post-DA:O DA

Just ignore it and play the game. If DA survives, they will eventually correct this.

Yeah your right mate this is such a bad thing. Such a thing will make this a broken game.

The simple correction for this without having to add a massive time modeling and animating for different armors and character models would be to draw every weapon from the hip and do away with the extremely odd shaped blades such as starfang, (which bug me a hell of a lot more than drawing from the back and the lack of sheaths combined.) You could draw every weapon this way with the exception mage staffs, but those it would make sense to carry with a strap across the back anyway.

The only character model this may not work for is the dwarf since they are so small that drawing a great sword from a hip sheath is simply impractical.
