I cant really say. I didnt play any mass effect games so I don't have any context for how bioware has done non companion romances.
Mass Effect doesn't have party banter. but they did make a point of making all the companions Really interesting and any NPC crew member really were lacking and boring, the best would be Cortez, so you don't have to know how Mass Effect did it to say anything about how Dragon Age Inquisition will do it.

even if they have the same or greater amount of dialogues they wont be able to keep up. There is simply something different about constantly adventuring with your LI.
atleast for me there is a vast difference

I certainly hope so. You may not be able to take them with you in the party, but other party members can comment.
They should make them just as relevant.

Do I think NPC romances can be just as fulfilling as companion romances? Yes.
I think NPC romances offer the possibility of telling stories you can't tell with a companion. They offer opportunities for drama in the story arch that you can't get when the LI is constantly traveling with you and is fully capable of keeping up with you in battle. I think there is the potential for a wider variety in character types than companions allow, since an NPC LI doesn't have to be someone who's a capable combatant.

I don't know if this is actually true or not.
I know there are scenes that contain just the Inquisitor and the advisors.
Yay!

So you can call a super duper important Inquisition meeting with just your top advisers and then mack on them?
yes

I hope they keep up. Sigh. It's just something abt having my LI there fighting at my side. Traveling into the deepest darkest places. Being smothered in nutella together. Watching them do that Final Slo mo Kill move. And saving my azz in the process.
They do seem to show up on some quests. And they also Seem to be able to meet up with you at a scouted campsite--which could lead to fun things.
But I do feel we may be missing out on banter and such. Not that it was that much in DA2. Although in DAO it was more on mission banter abt the LI and all that. Like Alistair asking Leli for advice in love. Or Wynne speaking abt how Alistair was watching my Warden's hips sway. They're small bits, but.....they were special small bits.
Also hearing what they had to say abt a mission or the place we were at. About the choices we were confronted with. Spontaneous stuff.
It is what it is, though. So, yeah.
I think they'll definitely be better than the Mass3 npc stuff. so, there's that.
Out of likes or I would.
Bolded the parts that are items that make me go *meh* to the idea of an NPC romance,

Hope it's not as creepy as Fem Shep in ME2. Her going after Jacob was all sorts of awkward.

This kind of makes me wonder if there's 2/2/2 romances in the companions and Cullen is just an extra...

Advisors?
Leliana isn't romanceable anyway.
Cullen just isn't.
That leaves Scribblenaut, so the question is pretty much moot.

Once I get around to romancing Cullen (and hopefully Scribbles!) I think I'll be very interested in having someone to come back to. It's not the sort of romance I'm familiar with in a Bioware romance, as I didn't really go for Steve or Traynor as more than friends (he was a recent widower and it made me feel guilty and she just gave off a friend vibe), but I think it will be an interesting new angle to explore.

My Inquisitor tries to leave the keep but Cullen pulls her back in every, damn, time.

Don't think advisor romances can in any way compete with companion ones that get to spend bulk of time with.
Hence They will always be substandard IMO.
I hope you are incorrect , but I have a sinking feeling you may be right on!

I think they can be as good as companion one's especially when it seems like Advisors don't seem to be passive NPC's just staying in keep. However like many I love dragging my LI along so NPC's seems to lack it. Although it seems like they will be involved in some guests.Lol I don't know yet but so far it seems like NPC romances can be satisfying as well ![]()

They will no doubt have great scenes written so they don't feel any less valid. However... there is something about surviving harrowing encounters with your chosen LI that endears them to you beyond what is possible for someone that stays behind.

it's not about the amount of dialogue, i wouldn't mind my PC romancing a mute NPC. it's about killing people and demons together. the trust and the bond that comes with it, and a few crappy inside jokes about slaughtering in tuesdays.
in ME non-companion romances felt void. if they were done much better here, they would still lack the connection (or feel like commander - subordinate relationship which is kind of creepy). so no... i don't think they can keep up.

I think there's a simple difference in priorities for some people when it comes to romances. I, myself, don't need to spend the majority of my time with my significant other, so long as the time we do spend together is meaningful.
For some people, traveling along side their LI and taking them into battle are major selling points. That doesn't make NPC romances inferior to companion romances; that just means that they aren't your cup of tea.

I have a feeling that we'll be pleasantly surprised with the NPC romances in this game...The advisers so far appear to gave a more active role than we originally suspected, which kind of makes sense, they're called "the pillars of the Inquisition" for a reason after all.
Unless of course it isn't your cup of tea in the first place, as Former_Fiend said...

I could be totally wrong, but I remember something reading about a Cullen story-line and so far, from what we've seen about Leliana, she has her own line as well. So maybe the advisors have their very own story lines (and thus some time to spend with them? maybe along the lines of loyalty missions)?
Also it's hard to say at this point since we know very little about the advisors and how they are recruited (or will they just be there from the start?) etc.
I'll have multiple playthroughs probably, so lots of possibilities to compare ![]()
