Advisor Romances compared to Companion Romances - do you think they can keep up?

I like that they are a team, they are equals, one can't bear to send the other into battle alone without being there to watch their back and fight beside them. I like it when my li's health gets very low and then my PC stops everything to make sure he lives even if it means other party members will die muahahaaaaa.
Now in rl I'm fiercely independent (just ask my partner), but in gaming this idea of "something to come home to" just doesn't appeal to me as much.

And that's fine; if it's not your bag, it's not your bag.
I just don't like people saying as a blanket statement that the NPC LI's are inferior. If they don't do it for you, that's alright, but they aren't objectively inferior, just different.

I think it would be nice if they made the NPC romances bi, since there's likely only one for each gender. That way people that like that dynamic and are interested in exploring it don't get locked out and people that see it as inferior, or a slight, don't feel like the other side got better options. Since they're a "different" sort of romance, I think it would be a good idea if they were evenly distributed.

We don't know if it will be inferior or not, agree. I don't think it will be nerfed. And that's fine; if it's not your bag, it's not your bag.

Personally I like that I'll be playing majority of the game with my LI at arms length. I want to turn round and speak to my LI, look at her face and say are we going to come out of this one alive. I don't like jumping to base / camp just to have a convo or hear what someone has to say about them at camp
Boils down to what sort of romance I like, adventuring with my LI or having my LI stay at home / camp with dinner ready when I return. Personally I'm kinda adventurous.

Cullen supposedly sings. This fact alone pretty much trumps any other possible romantic interaction between companions.
I still get chills when I think about when Leliana sings at camp... ![]()

That's actually quite scary
As much as i enjoyed dragging my LIs everywhere with me i actually feel that should i romance an advisor i will have more freedom rotating my party, since i will not feel obliged to have my LI with me all the time
I have faith that Bioware will deliver. Besides ME and DA are done by different teams, and so far in terms of companions and romance i feel DA team did much better both on quality and on equality scale.

I'll romance the one I like the most. If that happens to be an advisor, so be it. However, I do agree that if I happen to decide to romance an advisor, it will free me up to rotate the others in and out of my party more often.
I like having my LI come with me when I have them as a party member, but sometimes, it's good to have others come along, too. Usually, that means the other spots are rotated, but in ME3 there are a couple of times when the party member is dictated. On Thessia, I will rotate my LI in and out against the dictated party member, but when it comes to the Cerberus Base, I just can't because of the revelations that happen there. I'd like to bring someone else, but that other spot is locked.
If my LI winds up being an advisor, it frees up all my party spots to play with, so if BioWare dictates my choice, I still have that freedom to try new combos to hear new dialogue.

I think they definitely can. I'd really enjoy a romance with someone who doesn't follow you into battle and has a different perspective to offer. Also I like the idea of your romance waiting for you in the Keep and dealing with other non-combat issues, waiting for your safe return. Someone to hold your back at home while you're doing the fighting and killing. I really hope that Scribbles is a romance and someone without combat-experience cause an other thing I find appealing with this kind of romance is that your LI can be someone who's never killed and who would never want to do it.
Someone who's just... normal. Someone to come home to, who's not a fighter and hasn't seen the same kind of gruesome stuff that you have.
I always found it kinda sad that we could only romance our companions. Also I don't like taking only a set team of companions with me, but when I have a LI I feel almost obligated to bring him/her along more often than everyone else so I don't miss dialogue.
My hopes for these advisor LIs are probably pretty high, I know, but if they're done well I could definitely see myself liking them even more than the companion LIs

I don't really care: Cullen is a terrible character and so far we know little to nothing about Scribbles
Though I do hope that she proves to be an interesting LI, maybe I'll romance her with my... eh, wait, no, my m!talvashoth has a thing for Cassandra, my f!vashoth likes Iron Bull (or Sera if he's not a LI), f!Cadash will go for either Bull or Wall and m!elf is too keen on having elven babies and since Sera is gay... welp, he's out of options
Dang, it seems advisors will be Forever Alone in my main playthroughs
Unless Solas is LI then I can make my dalish female and my dwarf male. Then Scribbles will be a perfect match for Cadash
Hmm...

I'm thinking since we'll see the advisors in between missions, there will still be plenty of content for their romances. Especially since some of them accompany us on missions and all that. Not only that but I'm sure the party members will comment on them as well.

I really really hope they do. Its one thing I'm worried about especially since it seems like Cullen might be one, in my past games I dragged my LI absolutely everywhere as a) I liked just having them there and b ) I like seeing their reactions to what I do and their extra dialogue. I'm hoping we get something extra/different added to compensate for that, it's going to suck having to leave them at home. ![]()

I agree.I take my LI on all the missions, since I don't want to miss any dialogue.I hope there will be more than a couple of extra lines.

I like the idea of NPC romances. It adds a different element - emphasis on different. It is different, and that's not a bad thing. I've never actually utilized one. I don't doubt they can be done just as well as companion romances, in their own way. The only issue I'd have with the NPC romance is if Cullen is the only straight option. That would bother me because if I do like a character a lot, I bring them everywhere.
That's just how I do romance. I think having both options is great, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice one for the other and I would give a slight edge to the companion romance as my preference.

As for advisors romance, I rather like the idea. Variety is always good in my opinion, often because I find myself roleplaying characters that are vastly different from one another.. like my Dalish Rogue who wouldn't put her beloved Alistair in harm's way if she could help it, specially after losing Tamlen, who she once loved.. in contrast, my Human Mage always had Leliana at his side, his "firehead muse", as he felt that her presesence and their affection for each other was inspiring and made the grim ordeal of stopping a Blight a little more bearable. Since on Inquisition I'll be roleplaying in similar ways a romantic interest who isn't a companion is a welcome addition, might give a new angle on the current romance mechanics.

I actually think it would bring a change of pace. In my experience, I always feel obligated to bring my LI with me wherever I go, hogging a constant companion slot on every mission/quest. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it bars me from that much more party interaction. I think I'll have my straight male playthrough romance Scribbles, and then I can have an all-man party on certain quests--I'm thinking the quintessential deep roads quest will be tackled by my bros ala Fellowship of the Ring, Mines of Moria.
Plus, for rp purposes, not bringing your LI with you makes sense. For me personally, I wouldn't want to bring the love of my life with me into certain danger. In past games, you kinda have to bring them with you to get the full content of their romance. But with an advisor you obviously can't do that.
To answer your question, I think companion and advisor will be equal but not the same. They will be equal in terms of enjoyment, satisfaction, content, etc. (so to answer your question, yes) but they will be different in terms of how they are handled, for obvious reasons.
And that's a good thing. Multiple playthroughs await!

I view them as vastly inferior and given that they are going to be introduced I agree with you that they should be evenly distributed.

There is a huge gulf between (1) I think the mere act of travelling is important and the romance will be less for it and (2) the advisor romance will have less content. Under the reasoning in (1), a romance like Tali in ME3 was inferior to the Liara romance in ME3 (because you had Liara longer), while the Tali romance was superior to Liara in ME2 but inferior to Miranda (because Miranda was around longer). All of whom were companions.
I'm not saying it's wrong to think that time spent is important, I'm just saying that the criticism isn't actually limited (or related) to the advisor role at all.

I'm not a fan of the the companion romances for a male inquisitor (assuming it is Cassandra and Viv, i only play straight characters) so hopefully the npc romances are good and not lacking. It's always cool to have your romance partner by your side but it would be nice to go out, save the day and come home (the keep) to your LI and get just as much romance content as companions do out in the world.
If anyone ever played Star Wars the force unleashed i think the romance between the main character (who you play as) and the female pilot is what i would like to see in DA:I with NPC. He goes out, does his mission and gets flown back to base with the pilot and their romance develops like that.

I don't know if this is actually true or not.
I know there are scenes that contain just the Inquisitor and the advisors.
Well, that is really freaking awesome in my opinion. I don't know why, but this made me very excited.

I don't think it is, but I'm happy to be proven wrong. I haven't had any good experiences with NPC romances so far in a BioWare game, but I wouldn't put it past them to surprise me this time. ![]()
