Siding with the Big Bad in Inquisition

Do you think this will be possible, yea or nay?

If so, would you consider joining forces with the Big Bad at the end of Inquisition?

I tend to side with the villains in video games, not quite sure why. I guess I'm a sucker for sob stories, the underdog, the "not evil, just misunderstood" trope. Of course, that's predicated upon the villain being a nuanced, complex character.

There are a couple of reasons why I think we might be given the opportunity:

  • At the end of the 2013 E3 trailer, Morrigan says "Darkness closes in. Will you  stand against it, or lead this world to its bitter end?" Although "bitter end" doesn't exactly sound like my "misunderstood villain"
  • Cameron Lee said that he likes to play "evil" characters in video games, and that we will have quite a bit of freedom to do so in Inquisition. It's already been semi-confirmed that Necromancer is one of the mage classes.
  • Other Bioware games have let you take the darker road less traveled, e.g. KOTOR.

Even if we can't side with the Big Bad, it would be nice if we at least had a little bit of choice in the main game. During the encounter with Alexius at Redcliffe Castle, for instance, shouldn't the Inquisitor be given the option to say, "Hey, let's talk this out," or "You make some valid points."

I think it's poor storytelling when you are invariably forced to kill every bad guy that you encounter.

Sometimes, I want the bad guys to win. And if I want to play an evil character, it doesn't make sense to be forced to join the good guys and save the world. Like how we didn't have a choice in Fallout 3.

We don't even know who the main villain is, so it's hard to say.

I don't think it will be possible. It's not the kind of option that's ever been possible in Dragon Age games, and our choices are imported (admittedly, to varying extents).

If so, would you consider joining forces with the Big Bad at the end of Inquisition?

If it means letting the Breach happen? No, I don't see my elven Inquisitor siding with the Big Bad.

Why does it have to be "Big Bad" anyway? :?

Why can't it for once be "Little Good".

Well not in dragon age batshit insane stupid evil peoples are more common than sane peoples.

Especially with tase from demo templars killing because they don't see the difference between a shovel and mage staff and those were just normal templars just wait for mages and red templars .

My theory is that, we will be forced to defeat the big bad due to them refusing to work out any deal beyond their own plan.

However i think we might have the chance to gain something as a result of stopping this plan, but at the cost of committing an evil act

I really like the ultimate dark Side Path of Revan in KotoR. Especially when I was able to tell bastila "No, I'm not going to side with you, because I'm simply Eviler than thou." And then kill her. I loved that Scene to bits.

And I really hope we will get to do that again. Maybe the villain offers us to side with him after he is on the Brink of Defeat. We get the Option to refuse, because we are good People, we may even get the option to accept... but, if it is possible, I want to take the option to rub in his Face that it isn't him that is the biggest Villain on the Scene. It is ME.

And then maybe unleash some evil laugh. Then slay him. And then take control of his Armies anyway. Because that's what evil People do.

i do hope they will give us some freedom in the end (not closing the tears and such, with nice explanation why closing them isn't necessarily the best thing to do if you are, say... a power-hungry rift mage). i don't think there will be a Big Bad tho (archdemon style) - if there was, i'd be disappointed after DA2 (storywise - one of the greatest games i've ever played, such a shame it was rushed).

I got the impression from Morrigan's little spiel about "bringing the world to its bitter end" that we might have the opportunity to turn the world upside down.  Of course I need more motivation than "just because."

It may well be possible for you to lead the world its bitter end but don't start complaining when DA4 doesn't "respect" your decision, because basically you have brought about the end of the world, so why should you be thinking your can carry on afterwards!    It's a bit like the end of ME2 if you played it so that everyone, including Shepard, dies.   So you don't have a character to carry forward.

I also think it may be possible to do this because of that trailer when they just showed lovely views of Thedas and then emphasised that this is what you are trying to save.   Not the people, not any particular political system but the actual world itself.    To want to let this happen is a bit like saying that you'd push the button to start a nuclear apocalypse because hey, that's what I do, I'm evil.    And stupid basically unless you've found a way to survive it.     Of course you could justify yourself by saying that deep down everyone and everything is so corrupt that it is not worth saving and you want to make a blank canvas for Nature/the Maker or whatever was originally responsible for creating it to start over.   I'll leave that bit up to you because as far as I'm concern, I'm going to try and save it.

An interesting notion. We have no idea who or what is behind the Breach but I want to know the Big Bad's motivation.

I know it's very ignorant of me to ask but is there anyone who manage to capture the dialogue wheel screenshot when you talking to Alexius as shown in E3 gameplay, and I would like to see every available option if it's possible to talk this guy down or side with him since in the demo they processed to action immediately. Hopefully we'll not be forced to side with someone, and there is *real* freedom for the player.

I'd like this option and I'd definitely use it in my evil playthrough...

Given that there's post-game exploration once you beat the main villain, I doubt it.

There might be a non-standard game over where we join the big bad, much like Jade Empire.

It's as likely as joining the darkspawn or Reapers though.

I hope its not possible I mean whats the point? Its almost as if you would have sided with the archdemon and the darkspawn

the whole point of the game is to defeat the Big bad either as a hero or anti hero

Its just good for a what if scenario dlc or something like that

Please do not resort to ad hominem attacks, and try to maintain a semblance of civility. I know that the internet is a cesspool, but we don't need more trolls filling the swamps.

I think handing the Collector base over to Cerberus is a stupid decision. Saying so does not constitute a personal insult towards those who pick that option.

Honestly, your response was more of a personal attack than his was. He wasn't directly quoting anyone, just responding to the idea of joining the bad guys. You quoted him directly and then (incorrectly) implied he was making ad hominems and turning the internet into a cesspool.

I checked the E3 footage on YouTube, and the dialogue wheel reads as follows when you confront Alexius:

Thumbs up: "I hoped I'd find you here."

Aggressive posture: "Let's finish this."

Clenched fist: "You're here alone?"

Clenched fist: "You'll pay for this!"

Unmarked: "How could you do all this?"

If you select "you'll pay for this," Leliana slits the throat of Alexius' son. Not sure what the other options do.

I haven't even played Mass Effect, so I was glossing over his reference to Cerberus/the Collectors. I was referring specifically to his "don't start complaining" blah blah blah ....

Anyways, moving on.
