I'd probably be an elf or a tiny human archer. All I know is players would hate me for my constant btching, whining, and complaining. They'd murderknife me at the very first first opportunity.

i would be all about helping people and bringing the diverse races together in harmony.
a female elf with short hair and soft voice. probally a mage or archer.
i wouldn't be very strong and id be easily manipulated so that would be a problem.

I would be a warrior for hire. I'm in it as long as the pay is good. My character would have few scruples, and would be willing to kill anyone for the right price. Usually I fight demons and blood mages for nobles throughout Nevarra and Orlais, when contacting the Chantry could lead to "complications" with my employers. Somehow my character picked up Templar abilities along the way (illegitimately). After the Breach I join the Inquisition because if I'm killing hordes of demons, I'd want to be paid for it, and joining the one organization that's taking them head on sounds like a good idea.
What would your race/class be?
Male Human Warrior (Templar).
Biggest complaint about your character?
I usually kill characters who have a bounty on their head, even while the Inquisitor is talking to them!
I sneak female prostitutes (any race) into the castle for some "R&R".

What would I be like?
I would be striving for Harmony, or, more accurately, no Conflicts. I would hate the "guns blazing" Approach and do everything to stay unseen and unnoticed. For that matter, anything goes, though. Subterfuge, Assassination, everything so I do not have to go Face to face with Opponents. In Questions like Security versus Freedom, I would also strive for Security. I would probably be happy to serve some Noble, because that means, I'd get to live in a big mansion without many Threats inside.
What race/class would I be?
Rogue, Melee Specialized. Stick 'em with the pointy end, you know? I am also scrawny and small, thus I'd be an elf.
What would the biggest complaint about me be?
That I am utterly useless in Fights after my first Burst Damage.
And that I do not want to fight anyway and a started fight by the Player would mean Disapproval.

What would I be like?
Intelligent and perceptive. Quiet and reserved to start with- the sort of person who takes time to warm to people. Anyone who makes the effort would find a very snarky, dirty sense of humour waiting to be let out, along with a whole host of imaginative ideas. The sort of person who is happier on the edge observing, picking up information, and making plans for other people to carry out. Willing to help people and animals wherever possible, but generally non-judgemental.
Race/Class?
Human mage, spirit healer spec. Probably a few elemental spells on the side, but in general more of a supporting character.
Complaints?
Takes a long time to come out of shell- likelihood is many players would have benched out of boredom before that point is reached.

I would be a Male Dalish Elf Archer Rogue or Male Dwarf Surfacer Archer Rogue.
Specialization Shadow or Artificier.
Primarily talented in archery, stealth, lock and trap disarming.
Expertly skilled in potion making, trap making, poison making, bomb crafting, scouting, sweet-talking and stealing.
I would live by my own code :- Never steal from the poor. Kill only if it is necessary. If possible, sneak your way through or talk your way out of trouble.
I like to read books by the fire and experiment on new trap / bomb designs.
So bringing me new materials to experiment on and new books to read would delight me to no end. ![]()
Personality wise, I would be sarcastic, individualistic and a realist. I take things as they are, not as how I would like them to be. I am sarcastic because I find that if I started caring I would make myself vulnerable. I also value personal freedom of someone to live their own life by their own terms.
Players would find me interesting because I have...well the easiest way to describe it would be that I have a combination of Morrigan and Varric in terms of behavior.
I would join the Inquisition primarily out of curiosity and self-preservation, helping others comes as secondary. Over time, perhaps I would come to care more.
In terms of flaws, I appear to be uncaring and sarcastic.
In terms of the crap that is going on, I would side with the mages. I firmly believe mages should take responsibility of themselves, their kind and self regulate. I would also side with the elves in the rebellion but at the same time remain suspicious of old Elven tales of immortality. Life has taught me nothing is all rosy and pretty, there is always a cost.

i'd be hiding in the closet, hugging my knees, repeating 'this is not happening, this is not happening'.
or, if i had any say in this...
a mage constantly researching, enhancing technology with magic (without silly runes). preferably specialised in entropy school, but trying to figure out how to use my newest creation - ultra light repeating crossbow. i mean - it works. somehow, Varric even said if it weren't for Bianca... grumpy and yelling at inquisitor when she/he tries to include me in the party 'i'm busy! fade did something terrible to your brain and eyes?! take Leliana, Scribbles or Cullen with, for the love of the Maker! and don't you dare to bother me ever again or i'll turn you into a toad!', cuz i'm a stinky coward. non-romancable fangirl of some obscure Nevarran inventor.

I'm too lazy to start from scratch so I'll take an already made companion from DA:I that sounds so much like me when it comes to his personality (and the physique, but to a slightly lesser degree ) that it is quite scary, more precisely Dorian.
When it comes to the physique make his skin lighter, shorten the top part of his harcut a little (or a little more - damn barber
) and replace the stache with a light stubble. I can't figure out what colour his eyes are, but I think that they are hazle. If so, replace the hazle with a dark brown.
As for his personality...add to the charisma, hidden idealism, rebelious nature, contained pessimism, sarcasm and desire to change things A LOT of stubbornness, a strange and imprevisible mix between impulsiveness and calmness, a sometimes cryptic nature combined with a trickster like attitude, another strange mix between love for responsability and an almost complete lack of respect for authority (if someone that occupies a position of authority doesn't live up to my criteria of what I consider a leader I'll make sure to be a thorn in their back), the desire to lead and to make people reach their true potential...if it’s worth the effort.
For the skills: change necromancer with spirit healer (or combine the two) and throw in the composition a lot of elemental spells ( especialy fire ones ; I'm a pyromaniac... the flames are so pretty
).
Mix all that and you get the straight version of Dorian Pavus - Julian Cavus ( the name part is not made up. My name and surname actually translate as Julius Cavus in latin).
Put the two of us together and you'll get a bromance that will shake and,if needed ,collapse the pillars on which Tevinter and its society were build on to the ground.
Now excuse me as I go back into my fox hole.

I'd most likely be a city Elf dual wielding rogue, preferably from Denerim as opposed to anywhere in the Free Marches... Maybe even Antiva. I'd be hilarious, and a lightweight when it came to drinking. I'd also be super stubborn and constantly rolling my eyes and side eyeing the Inquisitors aggressive decisions... unless it came to viciously disemboweling humans, in which case I'd be jolly. If you tried to screw over mages in anyway, I'd probably get closer and closer to leaving you. I'd be a LI, but more like a Jack type where if you try to bed me too early, while I wouldn't go ballistic on you every time you talked to me, I probably wouldn't be too interested in pursuing a real relationship with you. Unless you really worked for it.
To get my eternal loyalty you'd probably have to help me with some old friends that betrayed me in the past. The secret would be talking me out of killing certain ones, while allowing me to kill others. I'd go all Roadhouse on a warehouse of goons, and then walk away from the warehouse in slow motion as it explodes behind me. And then we'd go out for burgers... or whatever the Thedas equivalent of that is.
I'd get along great with Sera and Iron Bull
Probably not so much with Dorian and Vivienne, but I'd envy them greatly.
It's not too late to put me in as DLC, Bioware.

I'm gonna say I'd end up as a Dwarf(male of course). Originally from the Warrior caste, a 12 year veteran with a share of stories to tell and a load of sarcasm. These stories would be told, frequently, at a tavern owned and opperated by yours truly and my wife. My character would be hailed as a genius brewer and a heretic at the same time for using imported surface ingredients in the brews. Which are also talked about frequently.
Basically I'm a sarcastic Oghren without my life being shattered by my crazy ex-wife. It would take some sort of bizarre Dwarven political scheme to frame my family and have us banished to the surface to motivate me to sharpen my blade and join the Inquisition. Probably something dealing with the wife's family or something and wanting to clear our name and reclaim our old life.
Did I mention sarcasm and story telling? Lots of story telling, most of then dumb, pointless, or about alcohol.

Likely a neutral mage, do things on a whim. May stab the inquisitor in the back if it benefits me, of course, with the inquisitor being the main character, it would lead to my death. My goal is to get as much money as possible to lead a wealthy life after a life of running as an apostate. I probably dabble in blood magic to erase any memory of me being a mage to blend in with society.

Interesting question.
I suppose I'd qualify as strong enough - though not tall enough - for a male Qunari warrior, so it's either that or human warrior. Weapons of choice would be shield and sword, always striving for a balance between offense and defense, the jack of trades, good for when you don't know what's coming, if nothing else.
As for who'd I'd be...I'd be the one Freddie Prince Jr would call a "beta" personality. I'd be the soldier, the one that follows your orders no matter what, I might add disapproval points when you give me an order to hurt someone, but I would never speak of it or express my anger unless actually pressed back at the keep. That said, I'd be practical as well, hurting an innocent is not the same thing as going for a strategic goal that'll save more than those being sacrificed at the moment.
I guess players would be annoyed with my character for being very non-commitical and perhaps somewhat evasive.

What would your race and class be?
Probably a human mage. Spirit Healer, most likely, with some arcane shields and stuff.
What would you be like?
At first, very distant and introverted, in part because of my personality and in part because of my not-so-perfect Common tongue. I'd sometimes make up grammar constructions and I'd have a slight antivan accent. If players digged past through my barriers, they'd find a modest, kind and sympathetic person, but with a hidden, solid moral. I'd be friendly with a compassionate and good Inquisitor, while I'd be outraged with an evil or over-pragmatic player, even if I don't say it out loud. Sometimes, the "gray" vision of the world would hit me in the face since everything would be pretty black or white to me.
Reason to be in the Inquisition
I think that, if I were a mage, I'd be pro-Circle but willing to change things so that mages were way more free. I'd hate blood mages and maybe fear myself and my "gift", so I'd not accept being pushed too much if that means over-exploiting my magic, since that could be a problem. Demons are ravaging the world? Well... ****.
What do you think the biggest complaint about your character would be by the players?
I think they'd hate my distant and ambigous appearence. Like "what the **** is wrong with him, the character development is so poor and stupid", at least at the beginning. Maybe they'd hate my criticism too, if players were mean/evil. Like... OVER-CRITICISM. Seriously, I can be a dick sometimes.
Relation with other companions
I can see Varric picking on me constantly, and me disliking him... at least the beginning. Then I'd find him funny and intelligent, and also find his true moral.
Iron Bull and Vivienne: No. Just no. Very bad combination with me.
Sera: Could be interesting, considering her personality. I don't really know.
Dorian: I'd praise his will to escape his land, because I'd hate Tevinter to bits. Maybe his vanity/sarcasm would strike me as unnecessary when first meeting.
Cassandra: Too close-minded for me to call her a friend. Probably respect her.
Blackwall: His sacrifice is a reason for me to deeply respect him.
Cole: I'd respect him, and even understand him, although I know he's really weird and has some dark story behind him. Not sure if I'd fear him or pity him... or both.
Leliana: I'd really believe we'd be good friends, although I'd dislike her subjugation to the Chantry. (I'd really hate the Chantry, thus why I want more liberal Circles)
Cullen: Boring and... a templar. Meh.

Guest_Challenge Everything_*
Sex: female
Race: Elf (not Dalish)
Class: Rogue
Personality: Enjoys fighting, pretty high pain tolerance. Prideful and therefore not one to ask for help, or want it, for that matter. Go with the flow attitude yet not very concerned with the impending doom. If we die, we die. Still, cheerful person, usually hyper and sometimes sardonic. Occasionally very calm, and though childish, surprisingly deep. Not afraid to speak mind.
If the Inquisitor does "bad" things, doesn't really have an opinion (or at least express one), due to belief that morality is a matter of perspective. Like Varric in DAII: the only person who will always back up the main character (with a few exceptions). Knows that in order to stop the evil going on that morally questionable things will need to be done.
Biggest complaint: laziness and "can we do it later" attitude.

Awesome thread idea. ![]()
Race: Elf w/ unknown silent spirit
Class: Rogue
Available Weapons: Dual Knife, Chain, Staff, all emphasizing agility and precision
Unique Spec: Elemental- I'd have unique rogue abilities and passives themed around wind, water, earth, and electricity; also a Ranger tree probably
Personality:
I'd be like a straight male mix of Scribbles, Sera, and Dagna, with Sten's sense of humor and Morrigan's devil's advocacy and critical eye. I'd be opinionated about the big issues, driven to help the oppressed, protective of the more innocent, annoyed by short sightedness, and have no patience for obstinance, greed, dismissiveness, or passive agression. I'd be usually calm and cerebral, a passionate love interest and a compassionate friend, but broken up by extreme bursts of aggression and violence when in real conflict. I'd be more than willing to challenge powerful people where they think they're safest or untouchable. I'd come from a disenfranchised line of multinational noble families, but I would only judge by personal action. I wouldn't care where you came from, but I would want to hear your story. I have a natural affinity with animals, so you'd find me befriending all sorts of wild animals and stray pets.
Complaints and Quirks:
Some people would think I came off as arogant or aloof, or cold because of my lack of interest in general small talk or gossip, but others would note my self effacing attitude and spontaneous acts of compassion. If you spent enough time with me, you'd discover my wry sense of humor, find me singing, dancing, practicing unusual martial arts, and find odd cutscenes of me leaping and effortlessly balancing about the environment. Some people would find this unsettling or unrealistic, combined with my more stocky build. I'd often walk up silently without being noticed, which some people would also be put off by. Some people would accuse my character of being a Mary Sue. They'd also complain I was too tall for an elf and looked too human.
Sometimes, I'd see the future in foggy episodes, but the information would be difficult to decipher and act on. At my early peak, I'd suffer serious injuries that would shift me to advisor status for half the game. People would complain about losing a companion and resulting reduced stats.
Relationship Perks:
At full affinity, my character would gift you with personal artwork, sing with you, and present you with scientific and technical observations that would translate to various stat, collection, and combat perks. These would not be cumulative single advantages like most companions. My character is more of an adaptive jack-of-all-trades.
Appearance:
My character would be a moderately tall elf/human hybrid with a stocky, tapered build, and would demonstrate high agility. He would have long, dark straight/wavy hair that seems to perpetually blow in the wind. When standing around, he would sometimes make palm up gestues while appearing to focus on something far away, and the wind would immediately pick up in the party's general vicinity. In storms, sometimes lightning would actually extend over to appear to strike him. Afterwards, he would blow and shake his fingertips. Occasionally, small metal objects would levitate towards him.

I'd be an ultra devout templar warrior dedicated solely to my duty as a templar.
Race: Human.
Class: Warrior, templar.
Weapon: Two handed greatsword.
Personality:
Serious and stoic, I live only to kill mages. Literally, if there were no more rogue mages or demons to slay, I would cease to function and I would probably enter deep depression as I live out the reminder of my life in the Chantry or I'd commit suicide, my role in life now completed.
Complaints:
None. Anti-templars would try to get rid of me but I'm that one companion you can't get rid off.
Relation with other companions:
Varric would pick on my character's dedication to his job but my character would knock him out with one punch in the nose and they'd never speak again afterwards.
Sera would probably hate my character for being lawful good and whine at him about him. My character would floor her with one punch.
Dorian: He'd try communicating with my character by telling a few jokes but would end up knocked out with one punch upon saying "have some humor!"
Cassandra: She'd be knocked out with one punch upon suggesting that we should put the Inquisition and Chantry above the Templar order.
Blackwall: He'd be knocked out with one punch upon whining about the Darkspawn and about how I, a great warrior, should become a Grey Warden. This fool doesn't realize that the most important thing in life is serving the templar order.
Cole: Killed with one punch upon learning that he's possessed.
Leliana: Knocked out with one punch and imprisoned for thinking the Chantry should control the templars.
Cullen: Knocked out with one punch for being too weak as a templar.
Iron Bull: Knocked out with one punch for making a joke in poor taste about being a templar.
Would look like this but with a two handed sword and Cullen's armor with a templar symbol on it:

This seemed like a fun idea so I'd thought I give it a try.
If you were a new DAI companion what would you be like?
What would your race and class be?
Most importantly what do you think the biggest complaint about your character would be by the players?
I would be a female dwarf rouge who doesn't stand anywhere in most conflicts but refuse to budge on the ones I do feel strongly about while I'd like to help everyone I get that is impossible and will think it's best to sacrifice the few to save the many, I'd also joke a lot with dry humor. I would also be quite lazy when it comes to walking and would try to get Iron Bull to pull me on a sleigh or cart behind him. I think most people would complain that I am two faced with how I act to their PC and probably say that I'm too disagreeable with some things and say they should be able to change my mind on my views. I may also be disliked by players for being passive aggressive about when I disagree with someone.
Edited: To clean up the post a little and add some new info.
As much as I would love to be an elf mage and a trained arcane warrior, I would probably end up as a human rogue who stumbles over her own feet. The biggest complain about my character would be that she can't detect traps soon enough and she only deactivates them because she walks right into them. On the pro side, I'm sure I would be a very entertaining character
.
