I might be the only one, but does anyone else believe she might have something to do with the Qunari. She has Rivain heritage right and there is Qunari influence there plus she has that horned head-piece which could signify something Qun. Plus she isn't a LI, maybe she doesn't want to romance somebody unsuitable, like how the Qun dictates whom somebody has children with.

If there is a link between her and the Qunari, I think the horns are just meant to evoke similar feelings when nobles see her. She isn't to be toyed with.

Maybe yeah, she is very orderly it seems (not to the degree of the Qunari obviously) so maybe she has some form of Qunari belief. I dunno, I'm just guessing haha.

Is there information about Vivienne out there that I don't know about? Because I'm seeing quite a few posts of people not liking her and I don't even know anything about her personality...certainly nothing to quantify the amount of hate I am seeing....because the game isn't out yet...soooo...k.

(This was something I had to remind myself of when I saw that trailer with Leli being...different. no real context to pull from...just a clip.)

its mostly from her character interview and her nationality(lives in orlais so to some shes orleasion) or if your a cynic its cause she's a POC and people know how to pretty up their bias(this unlikly as most just dont like her for the top reason)

From what the devs have shared she seems like a very mean spirited person.

Aye, this is the impression I'm getting as well.  While that may be fine by itself, Vivienne is going to be part of a team with other characters that we may also like... so if she spends most of the time snarking at them in a malicious way, that could make me want to leave her at Skyhold more often than not.  At the very least, it may make parties that don't include her seem more attractive since I prefer teams that get along well to one another.  But of course, some people enjoy the bickering, so it could go either way.

 

There is also the matter of her "secret agenda," two words that automatically put most people on alert.  While I personally do not feel that this agenda is anything sinister, and probably is just related to restoring or reforming the Circle system, I can understand how knowing in advance that a mean spirited companion has a "secret agenda" could make some folks wary...

 

Best case scenario for me:  she's a materialistic, snobbish jerk who's nice to the Inquisitor and about half of the party, and she doesn't try to betray us in the end.  That sounds more than reasonable, so that's what I'll be hoping for.

I think it's because of some/all of the following reasons:

 

1) She's Orlesian

2) She's a pro-Circle mage

3) She wrote a mean letter to some dude.

See, I don't get why her being Orlesian is reason enough to hate on her. Leliana is Orlesian and seems to be one of the most beloved faces of the series amongst the fandom.

 

My guess is #2 and #3. Mostly #3.

Anyway, i only quoted this to say I am a part of that alleged cynicism you speak of. As I am black. So I know the perspective that us cynics are coming from when we speak about lack of representation or the way we are represented the few times we are in gaming.

I really don't want the dislike to be about...this. I'm not here for it.

Plenty of reasons to be wary of her. Especially for people who are pro-mages, for example, she sounds like a thorn in the side. I also don't happen to be fond of these politicians at all, for they're all two-faced slippery snakes.

I know it wasn't a shot at anyone in particular, I hope. Like I said, Vivienne just seems like a mean person. if not that but her skin color is what turns a majority of her detractors off then I'll lose all hope in humanity.

Because I can characterize just about anyone in a position of authority as such if I do not know them up to and including the main protagonist of this game....though they are thrust into that position and that would be the underlying difference. I don't know Vivienne. I want to...and I sure as heck would have tried to romance her.

I should also point out that I am black and woman and lesbian. I'm big on representation...not cookie cutter but realistic. I don't know how Viv is yet so I can't say anything about her. That's the perspective i'm coming from. Like she could be the best friend you never had but to her political opponents and such, a terror. Feel me? There is one more than one facet to her personality and the worse part shouldn't be the focus by default...if that is even the worst part. The story is yet to come....
