Well... since I'm here now... any thoughts on what magics you will be having Vivienne learn?  I'm thinking Ice with a secondary focus on Lightning... plus whatever her specialization includes.

Vivienne is definitely going to be spec in ice magic, secondary being protection skills. I'm playing on hard with no warriors in my party, so I got to be prepared and tactical. I usually always send one person out to provoke some enemies just to ambush them. So, Vivienne usage of protection skills will come in handy during that time.

Hm... looks like Ice is pretty popular so far.  As far as support goes, Barrier will be mandatory for any mage that wants to join the Inquisition's spec ops group, but Solas will be the only one delving further into the tree (possibly the Inquisitor when I play as a mage... dat Guardian Spirit...).  When Vivienne is on my squad, I'm going to be using Ice Wall a lot to block enemies off so that ranged allies can eliminate them.

i have the same plan but my inq will then rain fire from a big chunk of ice

I usually prefer fire over ice, though I admit there is something special about literally shattering my enemies into pieces!

Fire and Ice aren't mutually exclusive... you could have one be her primary and the other her secondary.  I'm sure we'll have enough points to fill out 2 full trees and delve deeply into at least 1 other... just go halfway into the secondary element, and spread out the rest of the point maybe?

I have to say that the only reason that I'm speccing Vivienne into ice magic is because of the ice queen trope.

I was actually going to go with Lightning as her primary, and give Dorian Ice, but I was convinced to go the other way after talking about it in the Dorian thread... she'll still have both, but she'll be better with Ice than Lightning, and vice versa for Dorian. 

 

The Ice Queen trope could very well suit her though, based on what we've heard of her... on the other hand, you have to be friendly to throw good parties, so.... xD  She probably isn't really that cold if she did well in the Game back in Orlais.

In that case you might want to at least teach Dorian the most basic ice spell so that all your bases are covered... although now that I think about it, an enchanted weapon would serve the same purpose.
