Vivienne - darling - I had no idea you were so splended right minded about so many things!  Let's sit and chat about how we're going to put thousands of genies back in their bottles.

Of course you'll get to be First Enchanter of the new Circle Order.  I've already got this Inquisitor - Lord of Everything I Want - gig.

Now... about this "Iron Bull" fellow...

The little I saw of her, I loved her so much. It will be really hard, my first playthrough will be Cassandra, Vivienne, and Sera(who I will romance) and I feel every time I am "For the People!" for Sera Cass and Viv will disapprove. Oh well it will be interesting, and I can't bear to part with any of them so Cass and Viv will just have to deal with altruism all the time for no practical reason and even harmful side effects.

She says something along the lines of 'These Renegades sully the name of the templars'' although I don't know if they're Red Templars, or, as she says, Renegades.

They weren't Red Templars they were the faction fighting the mages in the hinterlands.

I'm just sad we cannot romance her.

Oh well, there's always Cass and Josie.

Yeah, that's true, especially in light of this latest information... I mean, this just feels like Wynne, Aveline, and Samara all over again... I'm kind of doomed when it comes to Bioware LIs, although ME did strike gold with Liara... IMHO of course.  That's why I won't be flirting with her no matter what... but I'll probably still admire her from afar...

Thanks for that clarification! Appreciate it!

My theory is that the circles still exist, just apart from the chantry. So Viviennes position is still official and she is still responsible for all the mages of the Montsimmard circle. I am not sure about when she rose to the position though, surely a first enchanter would have to stop being a courtier in Val Royaux or Halamshiral (wherever the court is these days) and return to Montsimmard?

So i still think she inherited the position after the explosion that opened the breach.

She's not that old... :?

Actually, you don't have to take my word for it... just play Return to Ostagaar and bring both Wynne and Alistair along... Hell, even I blushed at their banter!  :o

So I am actually surprised people interpreted what she said as callous or mean. Condescending sure but we knew she was like that and the Inquisitor is asking questions that she should already know the answer. Vivienne has the answers available for players who don't know the back story and her condescending tone and personal opinions she adds to the explanation just makes the conversation more interesting.

As for what she actually said, it seemed like she believes that it is safer for mages in a circle than out of one at least at present. She was complaining about the leaders of the rebellion not actually caring about the welfare of mages and only caring about their freedom at whatever cost. So I fail to see the callous selfishness some were interpreting from that.

Oh I was just surprised, it's the first time I heard that, and people ask to romance anything on these boards. She is pretty good looking for her age.

She's against violent rebellion. In Xil' s eyes, that makes her a race traitor.

He actually said that?  rofl... I didn't take him to Ostagaar very often but I can imagine he would have chimed in.  He certainly tried everything in his power to get near her bosom... :bandit:

Hm... I wonder if any of the party members will hit on Vivienne at all?  Maybe Iron Bull?  If anyone does, I could imagine that he might...

edit:  removed Sera since I don't think she and Vivienne are going to see eye to eye...

Oh, I see now... xD  But there you have it... further proof that Wynne is still a force to be reckoned with.  Zevran saw a lot of action, but his standards were still pretty high... alas, the devs kept her from us like so many others... and now it's happened once again with Vivienne.  Tbh I was more comfortable with her not being an LI when I was slightly suspicious of her motives...

Oh well, hopefully she has an interesting friendship path to explore... ^_^

It's just a bit odd, I'm not even fully against the rebellion and my first Inquisitor certainly wont be. there are good reasons why it happened but Vivienne made some perfectly legitimate points and her position is totally understandable.

Anyway I'll shut up about it, it's just a game after all.  :P

As Zevran would say "Well, why not?"

Vivienne: You, my dear, are far too wise to have not realized that many of our colleagues live with their eyes closed. Safe inside their towers, they only thought of the Templars and their own resentment. Kirkwall gave the world a reason to remember its fear of magic. A mage killed hundreds with a snap of their fingers. Across Thedas, a new tangible fear of magic grew. Commoners and nobles alike called out to the Chantry for protection. But the malcontents in the towers thought nothing of this. They cared only for themselves and their anger at the new Templar restrictions. When a mage attempted to assassinate Divine Justinia, again, the mages protested the investigation. The leadership chose to vote on independence based on the intolerable conditions imposed by the Templars, sparing no thought to the fact that magic was more feared in the aftermath of these attacks than it had been since Tevinter's day. So long as they have their freedom, they could care little for riots or angry mobs or pitting mages against each other.

I'd love for my inquisitor to respond to that w/ this line by Anders since he put it so perfectly, "The people fear what we can do, but to use that fear to bludgeon us into submission is wrong! And they do it with our blessing!” And I'd love for the last sentence to be spoken right at Vivienne, to absolutely drip with condemnation. Le sigh.

From what we know, Vivienne is practically the embodiment of someone who has not allowed the system to force her into submission. Did you even read the Mary Kirby interview? She took a position in court that was the magical equivalent of a jester and turned it into something that garnered her respect and the consideration of some very powerful individuals. That's not someone allowing themselves to be bludgeoned into submission.

Anders' solution to combat fear is by instilling more fear. Not exactly the brightest lightbulb.
