Her smile is not to Rift itself but to the opportunitys that it offers. Obviously, that Mage-Templar war screwd a lot of her plans. And now this - a great opportunity not only to redeem her kind (mages) but also a possibility to make a few very fast climbs in the career stairs.

I wager many of the companions are in the Inquisition for their own reasons.Fostering a common goal and true peace will be difficult.

Vivienne always struck me as a totally amazing character before the trailer but now I'm in loooooove!

I'm curious what your general feelings are about what exactly she is (capital "a") Ambitious about though. And obviously, this is pure speculation, we haven't really gotten to know her yet, etc.

Do you think it's personal ambition? Does she seek the most political power she can possibly wield? If so, what end do you think she's seeking?

Or do you think she's like Wynne and her ambition is for a Circle that is the perfect harmony of control and freedom for mages?

She is SOOO beautiful... That strut tho. I wonder why she smirked though... Did she know this would happen? Even for someone as intelligent as her, a giant hole opening up in the sky and meteors coming down on her palace should shock anyone. She calmly placed a barrier, dismissed that dude, then smiled.

Did she smile because she knew that would happen... or because she just won one tiny battle against that guy?

Like someone else said (not sure who), I think the reason she smiled is because she knew whatever had just happened, she could use it to her advantage in whatever it is she has planned.

I don't think Vivienne ever shows a shocked face, unless it's a calculated display for her audience.

Also, some people handle emergency situations by putting all emotions on lock-down until they're in a safer time and place.

That smile seemed more like a "my life just got a lot more interesting/easier" kind of thing. The breach is something she can use to her advantage and she realizes that immediately.

That would make sense. Vivienne, total badass. Excuse my manners.

She is a mage, her input would no doubt be even more valuable during times of magical crisis. She already advises the Empress (Who I assume was there? It was definitely her palace: Her portrait was hung on the wall.) though, why would she leave for the Inquisition, when she already had power?

Also, that guy... High-Heels, a limp wrist, that walk... I'm going to love Orlais, if everyone is as fancy as those two its going to be so awesome running into the palace with muddy leathers along with Solas+Bull xD

If Vivienne is Celene's advisor, then what is Morrgan's position?

Morrigan is one of her adviser's too, which makes me wonder if we'll see Vivienne and Morrigan interact at any point. It would be quite a chat.

There are SO many dialogues and conversations I'm champing at the bit to hear but Morrigan/Vivienne are VERY high on that list. We will finally find out if a nose can be forced to bleed by sheer force of sarcasm, ha!

How is this the only character thread with no posts from Bioware in it? No love for Vivienne (as it seems for those of us who wanted to romance her #stillbitter) or is she just secretive that they can't risk giving anything away in here?

There were a few in the first version of the thread.

And things are pretty civil in here so no need for a BW moderator.

On another note, Malcolm's Honor is not just a placeholder if she has it even in promo materials. Did Hawke went bankrupt and had to sell all the weapons?

I think one of the devs said that the staff wasn't really created by Hawke's father, but was something that he'd bought off the rack somewhere?

Which (as I've said before elsewhere) has lead me to believe that the story about "Malcolm's Honour" being a hobby-project was just an excuse he used to get away from the wife and kids for a couple hours, so he could chill out in the garden shed, enjoy a couple beers and read his secret stash of Orlesian and Dwarven erotica...

Every single action, every movement of the body, every single word that comes out of her mouth- it is all done with poise and grace. It is all calculated to show no weakness to any who would be watching, whether they be the sniveling little peon beside her in the trailer, or the Empress herself.  Such is the way of the Game, and Vivienne is one of its greatest players.

After watching the trailer a few times (and now that I'm home, HD and full screen) it's clear she goes through about a hundred emotions as she processes the Breach. I'm sure it wasn't expected now but is like the group thought that she just realizes the enormity of the event and sees potential to make her moves (whatever her endgame may be).

Sure. She processes all of it, and yet she shows no weakness. Not a hint of worry or doubt is heard in her crystal voice. So fabulous.

I think Vivienne wants to be Grand Enchanter - I think she both despises the rebellion, and is grateful for the opportunity it presents her.

But, I think she despises the rebellion for totally different reasons than many think.  I think she actually cares about mages - even while being ambitious (shocker) - and while she wanted people like Fiona and Adrian out of the way - she didn't want all the mages in Thedas embroiled in a psychotic rebellion doomed to failure.

After all - what will she be inheriting as First Enchanter if the Circles are in ruin?

I hate to tell the Pro-Mages - but I absolutely believe the Circles are going to be remade.  I think in Inquisition - you'll be able to decide whether the new Circles will be truly horrible prisons - or will be places of learning where mages take responsibility for the burdens of magic.

Time will tell - and if they are, and if I have the means to do so... Vivienne will sit at the very top as First Enchanter.

And as her first decree... I hope all mages forevermore have to have that amazing posture of hers.

@raging_monkey:  No, Fiona is First Enchanter... she's Court Enchanter to Celene.

Now, of course, the Circles are currently dissolved - but I think Vivienne knows what is inevitable... and wants to make sure she's on top of the heap making policy when it does.

EDIT:  I meant Grand Enchanter.

Yeah, it seems to me that rather than panic like the noble behind her, Viv immediately goes into Sherlock-mode as she tries to figure out what the Breach is, how to fix it and equally important, how to best use this to her advantage?
