It's not like she is intimating with Duke Bastien de Gilsian, as he is adventuring all over Orlais and it's being long since hes at home.

 

She said she was a friend to his wife who departed, and he might have lent her a place(Suite in his chateau) to stay while away from the Circle.

 

Edit - I see why Indira varma was chosen as the VA.. Seeing she is the only mistress driven actress out there.

Wow! I feel like the marketing didn't do her credit, at least not in a way that made her appeal to me. Now that I've actually seen conversations with her, I think I'm going to love her. I was under the impression that she was all cold and power-hungry and that was all. She didn't sound quite so likable as she is in reality (this is just my opinion; I know many people liked her from the beginning). I tend to mostly agree with her opinion concerning the Circle so I think she and my character will get along well. It helps that she's gorgeous and has a very pleasant voice.

While I doubt it's possible, I'm darkly tempted to ice Bastien if he somehow winds up in my way during the Orlesian civil war plot. Then we'll see who's the unemotional and farseeing one, Citoyenne de Fer.

Dragon Age is comparable to how things were in our past. If Thedas were like our modern world, I'd agree. But marriage in Orlais is political, especially for nobles. so it makes sense that some people would have extramarital lovers for romance and companionship. Eh, it works for her character. She's clearly loyal to him and gets along with the wife.

Among the nobility most marriages are purely political in nature, perhaps Duke Bastien enjoyed Vivienne's company? Or maybe he encountered Vivienne and saw that she had potential that wasn't being put to use in the Circle so by declaring her as his mistress (and probably using some of his clout with the Circle and Chantry) he helped set her on the path to becoming a courtier.

I'm actually not surprised at all that she's in a relationship. I figured when she wasn't a LI it was either because she was with someone (or in love with someone) or had lost someone she loved romantically and the wound had not yet healed.

 

I too dislike her particular relationship but it's quite comparable to nobility and the rich in our real-life history, so fitting.

She's not making that association, she is just pointing out that people make that association, yes it's fallacious but that's irrelevant to how it looked to the people of Thedas.

I was hoping she would shoot the Inquisitor down if he/she expressed an interest, whilst not as harsh as I would have liked it's still a pretty firm no and that's enjoyable. Still I imagine Bioware making one of the prettiest characters they have ever made not romancable will upset a lot of people, it's like Samara all over again
