Alright, so, a year ago when we first started to get a look at Vivienne, I made no bones about the fact that I didn't like her. Didn't like her attitude, her personality. For the whole time up until release I predicted that she'd be my least favorite companion and that I was sure I would dislike her.

 

I also said that I was open to the possibility of being proven wrong, and that were that to happen, I'd admit it.

 

Well, here we are.

 

Now, I'm not about to put Vivienne on my favorites list, but my opinion of her so far in game - and I've just recruited her and talked to her once, though thoroughly - is generally positive. She's level headed, reasonable. Her reasons for opposing the mage rebellion are compelling and she provides us with some less sensational facts about what it's like to be a mage in Thedas. These are all things that I appreciate.

 

So, putting it plainly, I was wrong.

 

You sure better hope so. =)

It's a pity that I'll always use that "hide helmet" function. She looks awesome in that mage hat of hers.

Wow, what an power house. Like it or not Vivienne is an tanking piece of awesome. It's no wonder everyone is absolutely terrified of her. Not even Cassandra would stand an chance against her. Guess my team will consiste of Knight enchanter Inquisitor, Vivienne, Varric and Iron bull. Varric will just hide behind everyone.

Is there an easy way to grind for approval with Vivienne? Like killing dragons or Venatori with Iron Bull? She hated me a lot for a while because I freed the mages, recuited Cole, and generally disagreed with her. (I tried to be polite!) She doesn't hate me as much now, but I don't want to start another plot quest in case I make another decision which pisses V off at the end before I can activate her personal quest. I've already done her approval fetch quest. (and wasted it, unfortunately, as she wasn't with me for 2 of them) If there isn't a way, that's fine, I guess. I kind of hate her, too, now.

You don't need to be pro chantry to get on her good side. Just saying you're pro order and pro circle gets on her good side. If you recruit the mages you can get some of the lost approval back by telling her the circles need to be restored once the war is over. Making an mage speech at skyhold also gains a lot of approval from her.

The only reason I'm good on Viv's approval is because I wanted to try something way different for my first character and am playing a moderate mage that believes the Circle should be restored, but also reformed. So I took a huge hit allying with the mages as equal partners but in conversation afterwards I got big approval bumps when talking about how the Circle is needed back to prevent chaos. For characters that are both anti-chantry and anti-circle though... I can see this as pretty tough. x(

She might be friendlier towards me if I'd done her fetch quest right, but that's no sure thing - she was hostile earlier, but I believe she's just neutral now. I'll see if she likes the way I handle the next few plot quests, but if she doesn't, I guess we just won't be friends. More importantly, I won't be doing her sidequest this playthrough.

Yeah. The way I see it, it's an interesting and fun thing roleplaying a character exactly how you want them without breaking character to befriend people. I think you get a more realistic perspective that way... if you're playing a character with strong beliefs, it's probably impossible to be friends with everyone. xD I think I'm having a similar situation with Cass, though I still enjoy her character. She just isn't fond of how non-religious and non-embracing of the "herald" title my character is.

Has anyone managed to do her personal quest? I cannot get to that area of the Exalted Plains no matter where I look. It's behind a seemingly endless ridge.

You need to unlock the area by planting a flag somewhere to clean rocks or something and then access it via the war table.

You can't just go there .

So while I'm not completely back tracking on my previous statement I will say I've soured on Vivienne a bit. I enjoy talking to her one on one, but her banter with Sera, Bull, and Blackwall make me want to throw her into a tar pit.

Not a motherly vibe, no. When she was super-pissed at my Inquisitor, I thought she was like if Anders had Wynne's politics. (I didn't love her, tbh) I haven't gotten her above neutral, so maybe the motherly vibe comes through when she's happier with the Inquisitor. I can't play this weekend, so I won't find out myself.

Question about the quest: "Bring me the Heart of Snow White". I think there MIGHT be a glitch?

So, Vivienne gives us the quest to bring the heart of a snowy wyvern. There's also the option to deceive her with the heart of a regular one. I got both, but I chose to give her the real one. However, she goes to her ill lover, Duke Bastien, and gives him a potion, and he dies anyway. This seems....odd. I'm wondering if the game confuses whether I've given her the proper heart or the fake one, because it just seems like it was designed for there to be an option to save Duke Bastien. Does anyone know? Has anyone managed to rescue him?
