The "darlings" or "dears"?

And I quite liked that poetical verse ^^.

I realised that I could have used Limerick rather than 'poetical verse'

I couldn't remember the word used to describe a short poem until today. So I thought I'd use 'poetical verse' as a smokescreen phrase. So I know now to use Limerick in future.

So how is it that I am as pro-mage anti-templar the chantry has to **** off out of non religious matters as a person can be

and yet I completely love Vivienne she is just so god damn perfect I am going to do a run where I go against everything I want to do just so she can sit on a throne almost worthy of her glory god damn.

Anyone else doing a run like that?

We are trying to do the opposite of what you are going to do.   Put Leliana in the surburst throne.  I always end up with Cass and Viv.

I love Vivienne! Especially all her interactions with Iron Bull, I really wish there were a cutscene where you see the result of all her machinations for him. I think my Inquisitor and her settled on 'grudging respect' as she was still fairly snippy with me, but was also very supportive.

Imo, she is as close to straight-forward as a professional player of the Game can be.

Spoiler
She doesn't like phonies and she's extremely practical. Her position on mages is similar to some people about loose nukes, resulting in a very narrow window of things she will agree with.

Her jabs at me after the Duke's death didn't bother me. She's all about making people admire/fear you. I saw a critical weakness, she was quick to slap the armor back on and punch back to show she was still in control. Her analysis of Divine candidates seemed pretty balanced and spot-on, she did not agitate for my approval in my game.

Well I've finally completed this amazing game and am slowly returning to the forums. I've seen a lot of the polarizing opinions on Vivienne and wanted to give my point of view of her character and how our relationship evolved. My inquisitor was a qunari male mage i.e. our first real conversation was a comment about her surprise at my abilities having received no formal training so from the beginning it was intense.

As a lot of you would know from her reveal I was taken by her and wanted to see how her character would unfold so much so that I rushed to recruit her as soon as possible and replaced Solas with her (since I play as a mage). I can definitely say that she is an exceptionally well written character that adds so much to the story and the cast. She's not there to validate the Inquisitor she has strong beliefs based on her experiences and actually I found myself understanding and agreeing with some of her ideals, though others were a bit too extreme for me.

Concerning her views on the mage rebellion I agree. It was poorly done and honestly they would never win, even Fiona admits it. I also am "Pro-Circle" just not in is current form Templars need to be burnt. I even suggested mages in the Chantry which makes sense to me. I wish there could have been a hybrid of mandatory "colleges" for mages where all who possess the gift would be trained just it would not be a prison.

The aspects of her personality that show her ambition have been outlined to death so I'll just comment on the growth of her character in banter which many seem to leave out. Vivienne was in my party for pretty much most of the game, though the other two spots I switched out regularly and she was pretty vocal with everyone in my party and she shows concern and in some cases a protective/ motherly quality to most of them.

1. Iron Bull.

Spoiler

2. Blackwall.

Spoiler

3. Cole

Spoiler

4. Dorian

Spoiler

Now of course there are many other points and I have heard extensive dialogue with her in many scenarios and with many characters. Even in some random quests when I asked her opinion and she provided a solution. She is overall a well written and realised character who is real in the world of Thedas and fits the inquisition. Even Cassandra told me that recruiting Vivienne was a good decision as she would add to the Inquisition and at least in my game she did.

So Viv as divine..how will her rule be? I knot it'll be pretty status quo so far but what do you think her personal touch will be? Aside from letting mages be part of the chantry.

Just to start off this is pure speculation based off my vivid imagination  (There are multiple scenarios but I'll just post this one at the minute)

I am hoping it will be a peaceful rule at the start because she has a lot of rebuilding to do. I see her has a strong character who can reunite southern Thedas under the Chantry once more. The ordinary people begin to trust mages and feel safe with the Templar protectors. I don't see a massive change otherwise. The Chantry has become more stronger than ever.

However, Vivienne then turns her gaze to the Tevinter/Qunari conflict. Both sides are weakened from a long drawn out war (with Tevinter struggling to keep up the offensive). Tevinter as a last resort appeals for help from the other countries of Thedas to expel the Qunari from Seheron. Vivienne doesn't respond because she wants to see both sides weakened. Several years later and the Qunari still have the advantage so Vivienne decides to act. Vivienne doesn't formally declare an exalted march against the Qunari but uses her influence to rally southern Thedas (and the inquisition) to take up arms against the Qunari. After a full blown assault, the Qunari retreats. Tevinter expects the land of Seheron will return to the Imperium but Vivienne declares Seheron an independent state authorised by the Maker himself. This raises the tension between Vivienne and the Black Divine ... (I can't think of anything further at the moment)

Also another personal touch could be that she changes the Divine's attire into something more elegant.

^^Another speculation (just to balance it out)

Vivienne's reign could be a short one. Being the first mage divine will attract many enemies. She could be assassinated and the Chantry would flounder and southern Thedas could plunge deeper into chaos.

In the epilogue, she swiftly puts down an uprising and also has the Circle and the Templar Order firmly in her grasp.  Given that she also a talent for dealing in politics, I believe she would fare well in the long run.

I know it's been said a million times, but I assumed people who didn't like her were making it up/exaggerating. Just finished the part of her last personal quest with lower approval where the Duke's family visits

Spoiler

Obviously these can be interpreted completely innocuously, but they can also be somewhat incriminating if the writers choose to go in that direction (which, I guess, is the spirit of "the game")

There are two hearts in her quest afaik.  Giving her the one she didn't ask for is a move in The Game (a cold move).  She recollects herself by capitalizing on his death.  She does this regardless I believe, but only because if she did anything else it would be like painting a bulls-eye on her forehead.  Vivienne loses a lot in this game, practically everything that's hers is either taken or shattered.  The Circles, her position in court, and now her lover all gone.  She must "keep appearances" to show strength where her enemies would exploit any vulnerability or weakness.

That was so spot on. Well done. That also explain while she join the inquisition.

So, question. I was remembering the previous dragon age trailers and I remember that companions one and what was said about Vivienne. So... What is Vivienne's 'true agenda'? :P

Firstly, I can't believe I have to go to Page 5!!!. I was thinking that Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson feat Bruno Mars could apply to Vivienne if I creatively change some words. I could imagine seeing Vivienne singing this: :)

*Changed words are italicised*

Viv's hits,

are ice cold,

Indira Virma,

is pure gold,

This one, them good girls,

Them good girls,

Straight Masterpieces,

Stylin', while in,

Livin' it up in the city,

Got masks on from Duke Bastien,

Got a kiss myself I'm so pretty.

I'm too hot (hot damn)

Called a Templar and a Guardsman

I'm too hot (hot damn)

Make a dragon wanna retire man

I'm too hot (hot damn)

Say my name you know who I am

I'm too hot (hot damn)

Am I bad 'bout that money

Break it down

(Also if my creativity like banter/limerick/song verse is irritating, I will stop if you tell me to )

All hail Divine Viv!

She and my Inquisitor will lead the White Thedas in a new glorious golden age.

Orlais is in the hand of the Inquisition, since Celene can only hold the throne with the help of the Inquisition, she will do as my Inquisitor say or Gaspard/Briala will take the throne from her dead hands.

Only a few Tempalrs decided to go back to the Order, the huge majority remained and form the core of the Inquisition army, a army that inspire fear and is rumored to rival kingdoms.

And even Viv can only stays in power and bring stability to the Chantry with the Inquisition help, but she is already a ally, she know its best to stay in the Inquisitor's good side, especially since she became Divine with his help.

We both played the Game and in the end we both won, I think she is proud by how much my Inquisitor has accomplished and how he mastered the Game.

Sorry to just jump in here, and I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I was looking at an (old) thread where people were discussing characters' ages. Everyone seems to think Viv is in her 30's, but I think she's MUCH older than that.

Her "alchemy notes" aren't just for Duke Bastien, they're for HER. If you take her into the fade, the demon says, "you want to change things... at YOUR age?"

I would guess she's not much younger than Bastien, actually. She is an older lady who understands the political benefit of looking much younger. It would also account for her always calling you "my dear." She's not just a condescending B---, she's your grandmother's age!

That's just my guess, of course. It seems logical though.

I would probably guess she is early 50s but she looks younger through heavy use of Orlesian cosmetics.

(Also talking about Lady Vivienne's age is not very chivalrous, my dear :))

I would estimate 40's. Mary Kirby told me that she became Imperial Enchanter in 9:21, which is twenty years before the start of the game. She also became a Senior Enchanter at an "age young enough to cause a scandal."
