I can't wait to see her without her head-piece. She has such strong features that I think she'd look as stunning as Sinead O'Connor does.

It's also nice to see some ridiculousness in a DA game that knows it's impratical--as opposed to the DA2 spiky armor stuff, which was a bit self-defeating for me.
I cannot WAIT to find out what all her outfits are!

The spiky armour... don't even... ugh, yeah, it was stupid IMHO
I especially like that despite being impractical, it fits her personality and Orlais culture rather than some idiotic fanservice. Good job, Bioware, that's how you make a fashionista right

Exactly. She's knows it's not practical, but she's confident enough in her abilities to prioritize Rule of Cool, and they took that thought and made beautifully architectural designs and lush materials instead of going 'how little dental floss can this attitude 'justify'?'. Sure, some of her outfits (at least one) have a cleavage window, but it's not the focus of the piece and there's more to the entire outfit than that.
I hope some of her stuff has a dash of McQueen, but I'm completely biased since they're one of my favorites.

I am just seriously holding out for my Inquisitor to be able to wear some of her outfits. Screw realism, it should be possible to down dragons dressed like it's Mardi Gras ![]()
I am really looking forwards to knowing more about her, I don't think we've had such a culturally and politically savvy companion yet, or at least not one so comfortable in her own power.

Yeah. And that boob window looks very fitting for both her and her outfit. After all, it's not the boob window which is the problem... but a terrible overuse of it in every appropriate and unappropriate situation

Comfort and practicality are what clothes were invented for.
Clothing probably started as a status symbol. Early humans went from being rather hairy to nudity for reasons of practicality and comfort (managing heat and decreasing parasites.) The earliest human adornments were likely decorative.
The more you know.

I'm not a troll, I just don't like her. And to be clear, I'm not saying the concept is bad and she shouldn't exist, I think she's well designed as a character and she's perfectly plausible in-universe. I was expressing my opinion of her as a person

I said invented, as in animal skins sewn with bone needles pre-civilization people made to keep warm

I wonder when we go into the armor changing screen and we have new armor upgrades to give Viv if she will say anything about something we gave her she does not like

Do you know what would show everyone else what an awesome hunter I am? If I wore the skin of a fierce animal I had killed. I mean, I live in a region so warm that my species is losing its hairy covering to acclimate, but if stick this on I'm going to be an absolute badass.
The earliest clothing was likely worn for non-practical reasons because early humans adapted to hot weather, not cold.

Clothes also defend skin from heat, windy weather and other things, which can harm it. Even dogs sometimes use blankets if they feel cold
Clothes's first function is practical, since humans are so soft and squishy and defenseless compared to other animals

This has very little relevance to the point of your post but I had a sudden image of a dog knitting when I read that. Just thought I'd let you know. I have a distinct feeling my caffeine hasn't kicked in yet ![]()

Yeah, first it started with bone necklaces. Then someone had to one up them with an animal skin.

So is anybody going to be taking Team "Talking, But Not To Each Other" for a spin? I know Sera won't even be speaking to Cole, but I'd love to see how Vivienne expresses her displeasure over Sera and Cole, seeing as how most snide remarks will likely bounce of Sera, and demeaning a "demon" seems like a rather fruitless exercise (though if anyone could pull it off, Viv could).

Well.. I'm mostly curious if Vivienne sympathizes with Sera. Even if it's not apparent at first.
More to the point, does she really like Orlais. Or is she just surviving in it and playing the game.

I think Vivienne just wants the status quo back, funnily enough however, I think Sera might be alright with that was well. She's more interested in solving each immediate problem as it turns up, not restructuring an entire society, good intentions like that are the road to hell in her book.
As for the plight of elves, I can see Vivienne being rather unsympathetic, I can, in fact, see most mages being rather unsympathetic. Things seem relatively equal in the circle, if you're a mage you're a mage first and foremost, your race is a secondary attribute. Mages who have grown up under the instruction and guidance of elves, who have eaten side by side with them at their meals, and have perhaps even been disciplined by them on occasion might have some trouble fathoming that elves are so unequal outside their walls. You see it quite often in real life, people coming from progressive areas believing that racism/sexism/homophobia isn't a problem anymore just because it's not a problem where they came from.

That's a good point. Elves have it pretty good in the Circle. I played my elf mage that way. I guess I'm just assuming Vivienne might've witnessed much more than that by this point.

She might've she might've not. I doubt she's been far enough into the slums of the city to see where the real problems lie. The only place she' probably seen elves outside the circle is at court, and those elves are all richly dressed and living what might appear to be rather comfortable lifestyles as servants, rubbing noses the the highest of nobility to climb the ranks, just as she did (whether or not this is actually the case is very much up for debate). And of course she wouldn't be seeing elves as anything but servants in the high court, there's no noble elven bloodlines, but surely if they get off their lazy bums and work as hard as she did they'll be able to get quite far in society.

Vivienne, is a companion I am really interested in learning more about. I'm curious about her motives and her mind set.
Is "Madame de Fer" who she really is, or is it just a mask or Façade? I can't wait to find out...
And her outfits are just fabulous.

If I took her words at face value in that blurb, then she's not much different than Morrigan. There's got to be something else to her.

Well she and Morrigan come from two different places. That survivalist mentality is all Morrigan has ever known, while it's probably something Vivienne grew into. She'll probably have quite a few more tales to back up her point of view, like a sort of anti-wynn.
