I'm only just jumping on the DA:I hype-train now, and Vivienne is certainly shaping up to be my most heavily-anticipated character. Has anyone wagered a guess at her age? I mean, she looks fairly young (which isn't surprising, considering how important her image is to her), but based on her social status and apparent mastery of her magical abilities, I would assume her to be in the range of 35-40. I say this because I think it would take a VERY long time to fully integrate oneself into the Orlesian court, and to hold such power as she seemingly does, even longer.

I was hoping most of the companions to be a bit in this age range. Varric, Cass, and Leliana are. I'm guessing Cullen too. Blackwall is probably older than everyone.

How long do mages generally take to complete their training. I know it must not be the same for everyone because Jowan had been there longer than the Warden and hadn't taken his harrowing but it's probably still more or less the same for most mages. I could imagine Vivienne learned to control her magic quickly though. Oh and I guess there is also the age that she was sent to the circle to factor in, which is unknown.
But anyway you seem about right, she couldn't be much younger than 30 so your estimate seems likely.

Yes, the speculation of Cullen's age in his thread usually comes to roughly 35 give or take a year or two.
As for Vivienne, I'd say it's more or less the same. Though she's definitely the sort of person I could believe her when she said she's 20 and if she said she's 40.

It must depend on skill and natural power, Mage Warden was a "star pupil" and judging by the circle tower quest s/he was already way more powerful than Wynne or Irving

They came from superior lineage apparently. Some fleshy creature that wished to elevate itself above it's natural shortcomings.

Hmm, idk. Ofc you were by the time you returned to the circle but you were a grey warden by then who had fought allot of darkspawn among other things.

But remember, we can't let the rest of their kind know. Less they believe their race is not completely hopeless .

But you could sort of do Ostagar and then go straight back to the tower and clear it single-handedly (pretty much), plus the entire story is one year, sure you could get stronger but going from "pretty strong compared to other pupils" to "can take an Archdemon in single combat" seems far-fetched to me.
Besides tbh I always assume 2 things in RPGs: 1-> that Charles Atlas Superpower applies, and 2-> that the PC is naturally stupid strong/powerful. That way things like swing huge swords really fast and wiping the floor with things that pwned your mentor don't break my immersion. Which is a somewhat common complaint I see here and there.

The Gameplay is not always a good representation of the story, just because you can solo the tower does not mean the Warden actually did. I also think we are meant to assume that all this fighting is making our character allot more powerful. Morrigan said she believed Flemeth may have sent her with the warden to make her more powerful so it seems like a years fighting darkspawn can actually do that in Thedas.

It's true. Her mom is way hotter. ![]()
Morrigan beats out the toads and darkspawn though.

1-> I guess power level could progress really fast in Thedas, given sufficient raw potential at least. But I still find it better for my immersion to assume the Warden was a beast from the get go, comes off more plausible to me. But eh, that's just headcanon, doesn't matter
2-> I find Morrigan way the hell more attractive than vivienne

Well tbf that could have been the case, the warden was definitely one of the most powerful mages in the circle from the get go. I just dunno how they measured up against Wynne and Irving who were also very powerful.
