Do you believe any traits of goodness have been shown?

Not everyone sees the world in black and white like you do.

What is meant by 'traits of goodness?'

Her willingness to act while others do nothing and help restore safety and order make me favorably inclined.

You can listen to a variety of Indira Varma's voice samples here.

I'm not convinced by the Indira theory. I guess it could be her and I am not against it being her but idk, it just doesn't sound like her to me.

It's present, but also seems self-interested, so I don't know how much it counts.

A little ironic since your avatar is Sylvanas Windrunner.

I really hope we cannot soft her at all, I always hate that in DA 2 and DA:O, maybe in time they can accept some smalls things but a overall change of personality is not really realistic, without some soul changing event.

There weren't any good elf necromancer pictures that I could find, so I went for the next best thing.

Vivienne does sound like Indira Varma. Awesome news if she is Vivienne's VA.

I don't think soften is the right word. I would like for her to get a cause beyond her own advancement because all my Inquisitors have some overriding passion.

Here's what she sounds like in Torchwood (season 1, episode 8 spoilers), for anyone who's curious.

Vivienne is threatening Merrill... {cue ominous music}

Thanks for the link! Another voice from a science fiction show I enjoyed (in Origins it was Claudia Black, who was on Farscape, although now I hear her and think Morrigan instead of Officer Sun).

I wonder how well those two would really get along?

I'd say, something similar to Merrill/Anders (not well at all).

Probably not at all.

I suspect Vivienne would think Merrill was a fool.

Probably as well as their Torchwood counterparts, especially if Vivienne follows in Anders' footsteps and talks about how the Andrastian view of the Fade and Spirits and Demons is the correct one. The two are fairly dissimilar as it is; Vivienne is an Orlesian mage who seems to be pro-Circle and is involved with court intrigue, while Merrill is a Dalish elf who thinks mages should be free and is interested in the elven people. There are other traits that make them seem like they would be more comfortable in other circles, including how Vivienne seems to be willing to verbally spar with someone (or proverbially, in the case of her letter) while Merrill uses quite a bit of dry humor.

I like that Vivienne throws the PC a party instead of joining the group because we rescued her or wandered into her. It's both deliberate, suggests she's not a passive individual, and is interesting on a diplomatic level.

She's courting the Inquisitor. I doubt at that point the Inquisition is incredibly powerful and throwing a party suggests Vivienne is going to treat you as a person of importance before you may have earned it -- buttering you up, basically. At the same time, throwing a party presents her as a powerful and influential person. The shot of her walking down the steps and being handed a staff by the man looking down tells me she's not looking to be a servant but a respected ally.

Vivienne is working hard to make sure she joins the Inquisition on her own terms.

I'd like to see that carry throughout the relationship. It's a dynamic I've felt lacking in previous BioWare games.

Are you anticipating any strings attached to Vivienne's involvement with the Inquisition?

Didn't realize she was that interested on sitting on my bench. :P

She can take the offer to join or leave it.

Totally. She's offering to scratch the Inquisitor's back in exchange for hers being scratched in turn.

My theory is that she wants to rebuild the Circle system outside of the authority of the Chantry and Templars, but as part of the Inquisition. The original Inquisition was one of the founders of the Circles so it can claim dominion over them in the wake of the Templars' rebellion, and it will have the political and military clout necessarily to keep the Chantry away.

That would mean the Circles could relax their regulations, allowing mages to leave the towers and interact more with the larger community. That would also mean that First Enchanters (like Vivienne) could get far more personal power.

But that's just speculation. She may want something else entirely.

Hmmm?

I'm hoping she picks 'leave' then. Or joins up to help save the world and then betrays you in the end.

One of the best parts of Fable 3 was that EVERY ally you got had their own desire and would only support you if you said you'd support them in turn.

I mean, it's ****ing Fable and it's managed to capture this one aspect of being powerful better than any other RPG. Individuals may be drawn to a charismatic hero, but the vast majority of people who have useful assets will not want to help you for free.

While I will recruit her since I don't turn down companions, she'll not go out in the field with me. The bench is a term for the companions who don't go out with you, since like players on a sports team if they aren't playing they are on the bench.

Totally agree with your theory.

As for strings attached to her recruitment, I think if we refuse to accept her help, that will decrease our approval with the Orlesian nobles, so they are far less forthcoming with their support for the Inquisition. What I love most about Vivienne's party is that it's also an attempt to build awareness and support for the Inquisition.  A chance for the nobility to realise, 'Hey, this is one to watch'.

Thanks for these. Hmm. I went back and listened to the Crestwood demo and I can kind of hear how it could be Indira. Unfortunately, the echos make it impossible to tell for sure.

Very interesting.  I hope it turns out to be at least something similar... right now she seems a bit one dimensional, but we have very little information to work with.  The qualities that have been revealed, I don't find particularly appealing...

If this were the case, however, I could see myself appreciating the character a lot more.  I can definitely think of a few Inquisitor concepts that this would support her plan wholeheartedly.

Yes, but you still had to make them. No one said, "Well, you're the big damn hero so we'll just give you our armies, resources, and information with no strings attached."
