I say Ansburg because:

 

1. Vivienne is of Rivaini descent and Ansburg is one of the closest Free Marcher cities to Rivain

2. Vivienne is a mage and Ansburg has a Circle

3. Vivienne has an English accent, so she probably spent some time in the Free Marches before being moved to Orlais

 

Oki, I get it now. Ansburg no longer has a circle. But Vivienne is probably from Ansburg. Because Orsino was from Ansburg too.

 

Edited - Thought it was Tantervale because it's the 3rd largest city and was quite close to Orlais. Maybe she was from a rich family.. that's what get her into Orlesian politics in Montsimard....

Honestly, she could have been born in any Free Marcher city. However, she must have spent much of her life in a Circle.

 

The Free Marcher cities with Circles include Ansburg, Kirkwall, Markham, Ostwick, and Starkhaven.

 

I hope her background isn't linked to Hawke or the Inquisitor, so Kirkwall and Ostwick are out (in my mind).

 

People from Starkhaven seem to have vaguely Scottish accents, but Vivienne does not.

 

In my estimation, Ansburg or Markham are the most likely cities in which she was born and/or raised. Either Wycome or Hercinia on the coast of the Free Marches (and close to those two cities with Circles) could also be the city of Vivienne's birth, but not where she was raised necessarily. All four of those cities are also close to Rivain.

 

As far as her being from a rich family, it sounds too similar to the human Inquisitor's background. I think she might actually be from a poor family and has latched onto an upper-class lifestyle.

 

My speculation could be entirely wrong, though.

I could see Viv and my mage Inquisitor having alot in common because she as well could have been took to the circle and her family was noblity.Perfect romance set up for her and our inquisitors lol

Her betrayal won't be surprising at all. I'd be more surprised if her goals in the end will be more ambiguous and will benefit someone beside her of her lust for power and control.

Why. At the end of a day it's still romance with a few pixels, wouldn't you prefer a nice well written one instead of just 'sex is the goal' - that being said I don't know much about Vivienne at all

My canon Inqusitor has a very specific backstory and personality a chaste romance is not something she'd be willing to commit to. Not to say I wouldn't make a second play through to romance Viv however.

I romanced Seb in DA2, so I'm pretty used to it.

That said, I really see no reason why she'd be a chaste romance. Circle mages are meant to be more sexually liberated than most Thedosians after all. Even if she isn't, I can't imagine her as a completely chaste romance.

What I'm more afraid of is that she won't be a romance at all. Now that would kill me. It's probably just my intense desire for a Vivienne romance stirring up my anxiety. All signs point to her being a romance after all. She's incredibly attractive, she's needed for the gender split to be 4/4, Mary Kirby isn't writing any of the confirmed LIs, she's incredibly attractive...

I'll be honestly betrayal could actually make me love Vivienne more depending on hiw it's implemented. Though if she were to stay with Inquisition after betraying it that would be kind of odd.

Also I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact that she is the personal enchanter and an adviser for Empress Celene, she ran in her inner circle of influence. I'd find it really hard to believe that a woman of such high influence in that Orlesian court such as her hasn't indulged in the decadence of her surroundings. I reckon she is a hedonist, she would enjoy the company of men and women. I can't see her being a chaste romance, I'd rather accept her being unavailable to the Inquisitor for story reasons rather than her being a chaste romance. I'd find it too hard to believe myself.
