I think if it was more about Celene, rather than herself, I think I wouldn't mind race gating her against elves too much.

If it was presented as a 'Look, I've thrown my lot in with Celene, so she needs to win this war comfortably. She's already seen as being too lenient with elves, so I'm sorry, but I simply can't jeopardise her position like this by being involved with an elf.', I think it would show her as slightly less self-absorbed, while still making sense for her character. But if the reason was to do with Celene, I wouldn't want that to extend to any other race, unless she had another reason, (which just seems too excessive).

Which I suppose is a good thing since the less race gating the better. Not that I don't like the idea, I just wish this sort of thing was confirmed alongside the romance. And that the romances were confirmed with the character.

If it ruins something she's spent her entire life working on (remember this is Orlais, where your reputation can be life or death), she'd be quite foolish IMHO to give it all up for somebody she just met, even if the feelings are mutual.

Both excellent points.  I forget that there is specific conflict between Celene's court and the elves.

Actually being gated against non-humans makes a lot of sense, and it’s hardly "lame" to not be attracted to a specific race, is Garrus lame for not finding humans in general attractive? Sure he is willing to romance Shepard but that’s after going to hell and back together 3 times, and as far as the political angle goes expecting her to damage reputation for something as trivial as sex/relationship would go against everything she stands for (as far as we know) “For those who value survival, sentimentality is not an option.”, and survival in Orlais is all about political standing.

 

Do i want her to be race-gated? No, would it surprise/repulse me? No, because lore wise (what we know about the character so far) it makes sense, and honestly i just want bioware to confirm her as a romance already.

 

And why on earth is it racist to find a dwarf/qunari/elf unattractive, just because i find someone unattractive does mean i can be friend's with them or like them as a person or treat them well, it just means they are not my type romanticaly, alas it does seem that in this day in age if you find someone unattractive you are labeled as "lame”/racist or whatever other nonsense someone can come up with.

I wouldn't be surprised if she is race-gated myself, it would make sense for her story wise if so. Sure it would limit my options if she is romanceable but dem the breaks. I'm just hoping she will be bi, I can deal with whatever comes after that.

I've played Shems plenty, doesn't bother me too much aha, dwarfs tho I just can't, the height, can't finish one playthrough and I have tried.

Vivienne being race-gated against elves or other non humans because of scandal doesn't really make much sense to me. The formation of the Inquisition itself is already a scandal. Add on the fact that a Dalish elf is the one leading it then by all accounts Vivienne's reputation should be a wash the moment you show up at her party. So I really hope there's a better explanation than that.

Since I plan on playing as a Trevelyan Warrior I probably won't have to worry to much, but I hope for the sake of people who want to romance her as other races that she isn't gated

I've found it hard to play anything other than a female elf myself, but I think Dragon Age 2 has helped with playing as a human and I'm terribly excited to play as a qunari. I still have trouble playing a dwarf though. I love their lore, but I think it is that they are just so much shorter than everyone else that it makes it difficult for me. Regardless, I am excited to play as a dwarf when I get round to it, because I'm very intrigued by the Cadash Inquisitor. What I know I'll struggle most with is romancing Cassandra as a guy.

Yeah, I've got a Trevelyan for her and I'm roughly planning an elf for her on the off chance she's race gated against humans for whatever reason. (Maybe she wants a scandal?)

Thanks for the Title update; I thought I heard Indira Varma had been hired for DAI. Last time I saw... heard her was that horrible gut wrenching scream she wailed when a certain prince of hers... well, you know.

I prefer to think of it more as a matter of pride on Viv's part. Doesn't have to be about scandal, just personal egoism.

 

I don't necessarily like it, but in Viv's case, it would make more sense than the alternatives, IMO.

Same! I think I love the City Elves far more though because of all the identity struggles they can have with so many different cultural and religious pressures on them, so I hope I can play as a CE in DA4!

Ugh, there's always at least one brilliant LI that you just can't have as woman, isn't there? Luckily, I think I enjoyed Morrigan's friendship over the romance. Even if the romance had some very interesting aspects, like both the OGB and the non-OGB as well as the Eluvian ending. I'm just glad one of my two favourites, (Cullen), has already been confirmed for female Inquisitors, and no doubt Vivienne will be bisexual if she is a LI.

I'm suspecting Cullen's getting gated to Qunari so in exchange the man lovers get Solas and Blackwall.

While I don't like the idea of it being unqual, I think it's a bit unfortunate to have all female character on your team as love interests (Leliana and Morrigan included as they been LIs)

Alas, I am a selfish man, and dislike not having romances genderly even more than I dislike making all the ladies romance, so I guess that kinda undermines my point

Well, if Viv is a bi-mance then I don't give a flying gnome if she is race-gated. I really do think they're going to try and balance things out as much as possible; if she turns out to be straight, then that decreases her chances of being race-gated drastically. It's kind of an in-between situation.
