OK, so the other day i really started listening to Oghren's dialogue and conversations relative to my PC and the side companions. He's really annoying. Really annoying.

Everything is related to getting wasted, or sodding this and sodding that. Now believe me, i can be as foul and "bar brawling" as the best of them, but cant they come up with something more original. Yeah the "polishing this and that" is humorous...in fact about the only funny thing he says....but its so insanely immature/boring.

And this is the companion thats going to be a regular character in the expansion? Thats pretty sad. Say what you will about every other companion, but each and everyone of them is well thought out...rich, in depth, and interesting to communicate with. (whether you like them or not) Hell the dog is 10 times more interesting to communicate with then Oghren.

But Oghren? Just an angry drunk....and that Bioware is disappointing and ridiculously stereotypical. Lets throw in a magic wielding tinkering gnome next....

I found Oghren's end dialogues to be very moving if you maxed out his friendship.

I heard that if you drank more wine, you would whine much less...

I really don't like Ohgren either, he can be mildly amusing but is really stereotypical. The whole get sodding drunk thing gets real old, real fast.

The times when he is serious are awesome.

The dude is short, smelly, lost his wife, and lives in caves, I would drink a lot too.....

He has some awesome dialogue. While not a very original character, they did a great job with the voice and lines. Have you heard the one with Morrigan about shapeshifting?

Something like:

Ogrhen- "So have you ever changed into an animal and gone into the wilds and.. you know.. ?

Morrigan- "What are you talking about dwarf?"

Ogrhen- "Ever switched back halfway through?"

I couldn't believe I just heard that. He is one crazy dude.

Oghren has some of the best lines in the game, use him in your party make up more often. I prefer him over any other team member.

Forsaking fantasy standards just for the sake of being original isn't necessarily a good thing. Dwarves are short and they drink and I don't see why that should change.

Dragon Age Dwarves as a whole have a few things that break the mold.

Oghren is plenty interesting imo but he's curt and he doesn't get sappy so you simply won't get the sob stories you would from other characters.

I like Oghren, even though he is stereotypical, he is the stereotypical dwarf done very well.

In regards to your post however, I can't help but say, what came first?  The chicken or the egg?  Posted Image

By the ****** of my ancestors, how can you not like Ohgren? I think he's pretty funny, stereotypical or not. He would not be my first choice of carry-over companion though and I'm not convinced he's the one.

Ohgren is, to me, like Zevran. There's more depth to their characters than appears at first blush. Depending upon your relationship and what role you want him to play, Ohgren has not one, but two moving speeches at the end.

Yes he comes across like a stereotypical biker. But there are reasons for his behaviour and the deeper you delve, the more he reveals. Unlike Alistair, who has some lovely quips, but is neither especially smart or deep.

All the other Dwarves look down on Oghren for drinking so much.

Wow a player of the Bioware games hates one of the characters.  Face it man tons of people love Oghren because he is alot more interesting and complex than you think and guess what?  Your favorite character?  Tons of people hate him/her also.

Besides I think Dog is far more likely to be the returning character than Oghren so you should find that 10 times more exciting.

I like Oghren and the speech at the end that I've heard is excellent. I have to disagree about Alistair not being smart, though. Stupid people aren't witty. They don't have the mental dexterity.

I think Morrigan's remark to Alistair sums it up best. Wishing to be intelligent doesn't necessarily make it so (or something like that - can't remember the exact line).

@ SinYang... The poll was who you found most interesting. Liking Ohgren doesn't mean that he's your fave or that you find most interesting of all companions.

@ mousestalker and SuperMaori... I'm one of those terrible people who really doesn't like stupid people. I truly can't tolerate to be around them any more than I have to be. Alistair is not stupid. He's naive and lacks real world experience but that does not equate to stupid.

I love Oghren, especially after i maxed out his approval - his end-game speech was great. And I liked him even more after reading the epilogue after my char had sacrificed herself <3 I cried a little then. 'Twas the best ending evah.

Up until the Landsmeet I agree. Unfortuantely Alistair's actions if you decide to sacrifice personal feelings in favor of greater need kinda put me off Alistair.

As for Oghren, I think it's refreshing to have a character who turns to alcohol as a means to escape his problems. That it happens to be a Dwarf makes it more poetic. Beneath all his bluster, bravado and crudity, Oghren is a decent Dwarf. He just needed to be reminded of it.
