I really enjoyed having item descriptions in DA:O and it was disappointing that they were absent (barring a few codex entries) in DA2. I really hope they are brought back in Inquisition. While I understand they aren't of the highest priority and likely require a great deal of effort I truly think it is time well spent.

Having the ability to learn a little bit about the items my character was handling made them seem far more personal and important. Each item felt like it either had a history or was at least connected to a larger world. In DA2 many of the items had interesting names and seemed very special, but were just stat boosters with fancy titles. It may seem silly but applying a history to that stat booster makes it memorable. I still remember finding Aodh and Havard's Aegis. Both items I kept long after they were useful because the story behind them seemed so cool. I also found small things like the descriptions of the Templar's gauntlets (which had small verses from the chant engraved around the rim) made the world seem so much more detailed.

With the ability to modify items so we can keep using them later in the game being added to this entry in the series I think having a snippet of the items story will make them that much more special and unique. So that's it I would like item descriptions back, did anybody else like them? Would you guys like them back, and if so what do you think might make this less likely?

I was a fan of all the short stories the items carried, some of them very interesting. I think it goes without saying that we will have many more like that in DA:I. Looking forward to reading them all myself.

I agree, I really hope they bring back the item descriptions back. They added a lot of lore in Origins and the items that had their own interesting history or back story were incredibly rewarding to have.

I love flavor text, especially when it's used as a pull device for lore and even narrative (Dark Souls springs to mind).

I also like reading them but I also don’t like stopping playing the game to read them as it breaks immersion.
