If the next gen "remaster" is real would you buy it?

Somewhat, since you can't download 360/PS3 games and DLC onto the new consoles, so it'd require an entirely new download infrastructure for very little ROI.

I'm a bit confused... it would be a current gen game, not a straight port (remastered etc), so wouldn't it just handle the DLC as per current gen titles?

Obviously, they would have to remaster all the DLC as well, but theoretically... all would be current gen material, not requiring a different delivery method than current PS4/X1 titles DLC (like Expedition for Titanfall, etc).

My thoughts exactly. I never understood those who say "I'll only buy it if all DLC is included". It seems like a no-brainer to me.

I would have thought this, except the original Trilogy didn't roll with all the DLC.. never underestimate the power of revenue gathering for EA.

They know it would be a firestorm of internet hate if the DLC wasn't included... so I'm sure they would put it in if this is getting released.

*prays to Talos for this to be happening, in 2014*

Possible, I suppose, but highly unlikely. They would have to carry over the DLC download structure from the previous platforms and make it applicable for next-gen file integration.  That's a lot of work and resources that would be easily circumvented by including all material on-disc for a flat price.

Anyway, including all DLC is also the current trend among next-gen ports/remasters.

I like that theory, I'll roll with it :)

I'm personally holding off the trilogy run I started in March since I heard the possibility of this remaster happening... I want to go in as fresh as possible for a current gen trilogy run, it will be glorious.

Not to mention ME3 MP in 60fps...... OMG.

The original trilogy was released for 360/ps3 before the ME3 DLCs were even finished. In fact, it came out right around Omega (I believe). The remastered edition would be going to the XB1/PS4. The entire trilogy is complete. Usually when "definitive editions" rerelease for new consoles, it includes all of the content. Like Tomb Raider did.

Titanfall and its DLC is ported to old gen consoles by a different studio. Respawn handles XB1.

Not really what I meant...I'll break it down.

1) Original Trilogy was for last gen, so obviously this would need to be retextured/engine reworked/remastered to now 'become' a current gen title.

2) The original DLC was also for last gen, so this too would need to be remastered and such, making it also current gen.

3) What is stopping the publisher releasing the DLC in it's now current gen form (as other current gen titles get DLC, right?) and withholding it from the remastered trilogy package?

I'm just playing devils advocate re the DLC, I am pretty sure EA/Bioware wouldn't flame their fanbase by doing that (releasing a remastered trilogy without some of the DLC included, and selling them on XBL/PS+), but on the technical side of things, I can't see why the DLC is any different to DLC for other current gen games (once it has been 'remastered' for current gen, that is).

------ I know my wishlist is probably far too much to ask for, but I'd gladly pay the price of a new release for each title if such an improved version of the trilogy is ever released for PC/PS4/XB1.  Also, it would help get people in the mood for ME4.  One can dream.

In any case, if it so happens that there is no PS4/XB1 version coming out, then the PC versions would be the next best option in my opinion, as they each have their own in-game achievements, and can have their graphics modified to an extent.

Plus, with the right software, gamepad support can be added as well (not sure about vibration however).

@Morphone: The only thing really to expect from a next gen version of the trilogy is all the dlc and possibly some new textures that's it really. Most of the stuff that you mentioned isn't feasible since it will be too costly to implement.

I'm going to throw down with the people who would buy it only if the DLC is included.  I love Mass Effect, ME2 is my favorite game of the Xbox 360/PS3 generation, and I'm still good for a few more trilogy runs.  Given that I currently do not have a lot of the DLC (From Ashes, Omega, Leviathan, BDtS), I'd be willing to pay a small mark up for upgraded graphics in order to get all the DLC in one bundle and have the most complete ME experience available.

That's a very impressive list you've got there. To be honest it all sounds good, a bit unrealistic but there's no harm in having a wish list.

Re. my wishlist - At the very least, if they could:

ME1:

- port it to PS4 and have it running at 1080p @ 60fps + some decent AA + AF

- higher resolution (and sharper) textures

- use some of the ME2/ME3 art assets to address the generic looking areas in parts of the game

- fix the speed of the elevator in the Normandy SR1

- fix the voice bugs present

- include the "Bring Down The Sky" DLC

- remove the 150 item limit

- level 60 cap unlocked from start

- level 1 to 10 items unlocked from start

- all difficulty levels unlocked from start

- take advantage of the PS4's DualShock 4 controller

- implement the face customization code-based system from ME2/ME3 when creating your Shepard

- add some extras in the extras menu, such as concept art, videos

ME2:

- port it to PS4 and have it running at 1080p @ 60fps + some decent AA + AF

- higher resolution (and sharper) textures

- all DLC packs included without extra charges would be a huge bonus for part 2

- all promotional/exclusive DLC packs would be great as well (especially the Collector's Armor + Assault Rifle)

- access to the Normandy SR2's docking bay (Floor 5 in ME3) before the fight with the Oculus near the end

- codex narrator's voice volume normalized + ME1 primary codex entries included

- some extra extras included in the extras menu, such as concept art, videos, etc.

- DualShock 4 controller unique mapping

- Insanity difficulty unlocked from start

- max level (30 right?) unlocked from start (if it isn't already)

- add a movie filter like in ME1 (if not implemented already)

ME3:

- port it to PS4 and have it running at 1080p @ 60fps + some decent AA + AF

- higher resolution (and sharper) textures

- all DLCs included would be a big deal

- all promotional/exclusive DLC also included would sweeten the deal

- primary codex entries from ME1/ME2 included with the new entries from ME3

- level 60 cap unlocked from start (if it isn't already)

- insanity difficulty unlocked from start (if it isn't already)

- level 1 to 10 items unlocked from start

- perhaps "The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3" could be integrated into the extras menu.

- DualShock 4 controller unique mapping

- add a movie filter like in ME1 (if there isn't one already)

ME1+2+3+4:

- They should create a Halo Waypoint-type app for tablets, smartphones, etc. which could then be used to track in realtime in-game objectives, inventory, map, button layout, certain options, news, stats, journal, codex, and much more.

In any case, my wishlist is just that: An "in my dreams' wishlist, and certainly not a realistic expectation.

For example, it would be stupid of me to expect them to somehow modify the game so that both Kaiden and Ashley survive on Virmire, even though the voicework for that scenario was completed and is included in the game files.

Furthemore, porting a very large trilogy from one engine (UE3) to another (Frostbite 3) would take a very, very long time, and would cost far too much money for a remaster/remake.

Cheers!

P.S. - Even if they don't come out on PS4, I'll always have my PC and 360 versions available.  And I have already experimented with some texture mods on the PC, which I must say look fantastic.  Plus, I love the fact that Bioware was smart enough to include an in-game achievement system for all 3 games on the PC.

P.P.S. - Even better, once I can afford to purchase a good quality 4k display, I imagine that the games will look fantastic - particularly with 4k textures, which have been available for some time.

I'd buy it for being able to play ME3 MP with the DualShock 4 alone.

Although I'm pretty sure manifests won't transfer, which would be a real bummer.

If it was remastered for next gen (Current gen now?)?  That would depend entirely on how slim the RPG pickings of the time are for me.  I'd only spring for it if there were no fresh RPG experiences out there.  I'm just not terrible interested in getting the whole trilogy again without any new content.

As far as developer commentary goes, the OP might already be aware of this, but just in case, there is a Final Hours of Mass Effect 3 app available for purchase and download (it costs $2.99). It goes into a lot of how the plot of the game changed during development, and also goes into some of what Walters and Casey were thinking about for the ending.

Yes indeed.  Although the graphics probably looked good on PC, ME1 didn't look great on X360.  Luckily the game play was fun enough to make that a moot point.  However, yeah, I would love to see them re-mastered on current gen.

I'd only buy an ME1 remaster if they made sure the frame rate dropped at random, for no apparent reason, like the original.

Its what gives the game its charm.

July 4th, 2014 - "General Manager for BioWare’s Edmonton & Montreal Studios Aaryn Flynn has confirmed that the company is currently working on a remake of the original trilogy for the next-gen consoles."

Link - http://www.breatheca...next-gen-16879/

I'm praying that this is for real.  Never been so excited about the possibility of a remake as I have with the Mass Effect Trilogy.

*Crossing my fingers* Please just take my money already and reserve me a copy (preferrably for PS4).
