I'd rather they just gradual slip out screenshots of people snogging each other until we can fill in our own chart

I actually like this plan.

I think a chart is going to be extremely necessary once the game comes out, with the gender and race restrictions and whatnot in place. even a list in the manual or on the website will do.

Bah, this whole The Chart thing is dumb. Sure in later playthroughs I'd love to know who's romancable by whom and whatnot -- but for our first playthrough, it's far more enjoyable not knowing who you can or can't flirt with. If you know ahead of time, you rob yourself of the First Playthrough BlackHole. Which then ruins the replayability value :P

Um why are they going to give that little bit of juicy information away for free, it will be in that strategy guide sitting right next to the game....

But who wants to replay the game several times just to know something as basic as who can you flirt with or not? lol

The Chart doesn't have to give vital information away about the actual content of the romances. It should just be like, can you hit that as an elf/human/dwarf/qunari? yes or no

Yeah, I get that people might reveal spoilers if it gets released, but frankly, I don't see why people who don't want to be spoiled feel like they should get priority over people who do want to be spoiled.  If you don't want to be spoiled, there comes a point when you need to step away from BSN because spoilers will abound.  That's just kind of how the internet works.

I agree with this 100%.  I'm sure that he's the gay romance, but technically he's not confirmed.  Just like Iron Bull isn't confirmed.  However, when the devs highlight a character's sexuality in their pre-release interviews, it does tend to suggest that those characters will be romanceable, especially given that Bioware knows their audience and knows that the BSN will pick apart every word and relate it back to romance in some way..... ;)

"Pretty much confirmed" =/= confirmed, though.  Those are two completely different things......

I'm actually with dutch_gamer on this one. Certainly there comes a point when it's better to avoid the internet altogether in order to avoid spoilers. But I don't think the time has come yet. There are still three months left before DAI is released. So, personally, I would prefer that the chart is not released. But no matter what I want, I doubt that they will show us the chart before the game is out. But if they do show it earlier than that we will probably have to wait until all the romance options are announced, as Andraste_Reborn suggested.

Maybe it's fun for some people to go into the first play through blind, but I only really have time for 2 or, at most, 3 attempts and I want to know who I can aim for and what kind of character I need to play to do it. Missing the content is just wasted time, for me. I'm going to wait for the wikis to update if the info isn't out, so before release is preferable, for me.

Bioware - most folks are with Gaider! Detailed romance chart please!! People who don't want spoilers can avoid it just like they avoid the wikis.

 Asked, and answered.

The Chart, given to us now would spoil the void out of the romances for a whole lot of people, not even just myself.

When it's released, I'm 100% sure by the time folks get done with their first playthrough, all required "who can I romance with whom" information will be out on the Wiki, or in the strategy guide that they sell at the same time as the game. Outside of those two options, they'll DEFINITELY be on the forums here.

if it's in the Strategy Guide, you can just buy it along with your game and have that knowledge. For folks like myself, who don't want that information going into my first playthrough, I can then feel free to buy the guide later OR check out the Wiki, OR discover it for myself with subsequent playthroughs.

I understand why folks want it, I would love to know... but I also don't want to know everything either, because - at least for my very first playthrough - I like to go in as blind as I can stand.

I'd be happy to see the chart, but I can understand if they do not want to release all the info on it at once.

If you want to go in as blind as you can then why are you on BSN? It's full of spoilers and information. That's what I don't understand about people who don't like spoilers.

My boyfriend doesn't want a thing about DAI to be spoiled, so he has no Origin account and has never accessed the BSN.

Outside the BSN, you have to go looking for DA info in order for it to be spoiled. I truly think a chart would be great and the folks who don't like spoilers should stay away from spoiler territory. ;)

I wouldn't have a problem with spoilers if they were hidden within spoiler tags. Unfortunately, there is always someone who forgets that spoiler tags exist. So, you're right, the safest way to avoid spoilers is to avoid the forum or anything that is connected with DAI. But the forum is not just a place for spoilers. It's also a place to discuss other non-spoiler related things. So, I don't really want to stay away from the forum yet since there are still three more months to go before the game is released. Could be intersting though if they would release the chart on the same day as the game. However, as I understood David Gaider's tweet it's not even sure they will release the chart at all. But I understand why spoilers can be pretty addictive and why people want to see it.

Because there's a difference between "Current information we know" and outright spoilery content. Bioware has so far gone to great lengths not to give us information that teeters off the edge of the Spoiler Canyon. So anything we know here on BSN is information I don't consider spoilery, or at least not spoilery enough that I have to restrict myself from visiting to chat about the game with folks who are also excited about it.

I also really dislike it when the answer to disagreeing with wanting full blown spoilers is to just tell people they can't hang out. I know when to censor myself, and I will probably stop visiting, or at the very most avoid the story discussion board once we get into late August/September. But it's not yet that time, so I'm still very much free to disagree with folks who are asking to be thrown over Spoiler Canyon.

Honestly, the minute I log onto the BSN, I expect there will be

book spoilers
game spoilers
graphic novel spoilers
film spoilers
webisode spoilers

This is a place full of - bursting with! - information. If people want spoiler free conversations....I just don't see how it's possible.

I have a friend who barely started DAO and he asked me a simple question, and I accidentally spoiled something for him because DAO is a topic that is often spoiled - I'm not as "on guard" about it as, say, the books or DAI.

So I spoiled a part in DAO for him and he was peeved. I felt bad, but you can't really have a conversation about something without volunteering enough information to give it weight. And said information will spoil something for someone.

tis a slippery slope ;)

Again, the chart doesn't have to spoil anything about the actual content on the romances themselves. It's only purpose is to serve as a guideline for people who are interested in getting into some optional content, like giving instructions. It'll help players plan out their playthroughs a little wiser whether its their first or last to make the best out of their experience.

I don't consider who the companions are and who the romances are to be spoilers. That's just basic information I like to have to know if the game looks interesting. Do people really buy stuff just on blind faith alone? I don't know, that's just not how I decide if I want to play a game. I like to know what my options are. It doesn't tell me what the romance plot will be or what the companion story arcs will be just to know what the most vague information about their existence is.

@slimgrin - some people do, some people want to strategize ahead of time. Neither option is superior. And as a few folks have said....the chart doesn't have to spoil content. It'd just be a straightforward bullet list.

The surprise is in the actual content. "Surprise! You picked the wrong race gender combination for any romance options that would appeal to you!", is a sort of surprise I would like to avoid. I don't have unlimited time to work with. These games can take hours and hours until you get to the point where you've figured that out. It's not even a little fun, to me.

David Gaider mentioned something on twitter about a romance chart, admitting that he didn't have a say in whether or not to actually post something like a chart, but he thought it'd be a good idea.

I can't help but get behind Gaider and support the suggestion. Anyone else on board for a posting of a romance/LI chart complete with race and (possible) class gates?

YES PLEASE. It would ease so much of the tension running through here.

Truly. It takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to build a rapport with your romance of choice. If you don't know who is romanceable and who isn't, you could be sticking with one companion over another when it should perhaps be the other way around.

For example, my first playthrough will be a female Qunari mage. I would love to romance Cullen, but I don't know if he's race gated or not. Much less, what if for some reason he's class gated? Maybe he is no longer interested in mages, unlike in DAO. I don't know. Either way, I'd rather know ahead of time so my Qunari PC can forget trying to butter up Cullen for the sake of unlocking a romance arc that isn't even available to her. Maybe she can only romance Iron Bull - I don't know! But this game is going to be *huge*, not just with social interactions but exploration and combat and story as well. A romance chart, in the grand scheme of things, is not asking for much.

And beyond that, Gaider himself said it would be a relief to just post something up like that. He can't post it, but he liked the idea of it. (According to Gaider, there is a chart, by the way. The devs have one. It's just...out...of...reach...)

Maybe it's like the sea charts in Wind Waker and you have to collect all the pieces of your romance's Triforce before they'll slay your Ganondorf.
