I hope they do release the chart sometime before the game.

I'm all for avoiding spoilers relating to story and character development, but something like this is something I'd like to know beforehand (like Inq background). I like to have some idea of what I want to do in the game - I mean, I already know what I want my character to look like, their personality and morality before I start the game. It may change when I play for myself, but it's good to have an idea. Same goes with the chart. I mean, I am so glad they announced Dorian as gay, because it would have been very disappointing to hold out for a romance with him with a femInq, and lock myself out of other options as a result. Considering my first playthrough is also Qunari, it would be useful to know who's not interested.

An dont use the excuse of "oh i have no time" bollocks you got from the day the game is out until your lying in your coffin to play the game an work nigh everything out.

I have this thing called a job, which takes nearly 40 hours of my time (not including travel time) per week, and I usually work six days a week. When I get home, I'm tired as hell. So please don't lecture me about how much time I have to play a video game. You may have all the time in the world to play, but I will never have enough.

Are romances not essentially sidequests?  In the E3 Demo, the comment was made was that what we were seeing was a sidequest that was based on having made certain decisions, and if that's true then like a romance, it's a piece of optional content.

As long as we don't have a script, we're not actually spoiled for the specifics of the sidequest in either case - just the basic possible outcomes.

Did anyone actually say that the game would be completely ruined if the chart were released?  I certainly didn't see that. I think for plenty of people part of the fun is finding out what is possible within the game - which followers you can miss, or kick out, or kill, or romance is very much part of that.

And I suspect that even for most of the people who want the chart, there's still a desire for some surprise, right?  What I'm curious about is where that line lies for different people - because it's interesting for discussion, not for any kind of hyperbolic snark about it either ruining everything or on the flip side for it being completely meaningless.

I'll state for the hundredth time in this thread, it is a chart with the possible romance options and which race/gender combinations they can be romanced by. Nothing more. No one is asking for any actual story content anywhere on the chart.

I never claimed anyone said that the game would be ruined for them. I said people were acting like the game would be ruined for them. Namely Caladin.

And no, I'd rather not be surprised that I'm locked out of content halfway through the game based on a choice I made at character creation. Especially if the game really is as long as the devs are promising.

I think he was saying there's no deadline, not that everyone has loads of time for games.  I have a friend who took three years to finish DAO - life's more important, so there's no rush.

Yes, I appreciate that, but is it really any different than finding out on release day?  It's still before you've started the game.

The way I see it, plenty of people buy game guides - I don't, because I like to be surprised, but I totally understand why other people want to know the "right" way to get the results they want - but they're not generally reading them three months prior to release.  Again, I'm not anti-chart, I just don't see the big deal one way or the other since once the game is out, we'll all be able to find out what's available nearly instantaneously (and again: not necessarily though playing, but from forums and guides).

I really hope they do release a chart, but if they don't I'm still pretty sure some people will get the game earlier then the release date and such information will be out there before the official release.  It almost always works out that way with big releases.

I'm still 100% supportive of seeing that chart though.  Give it!  I want!

They should release the chart with false information: Cullen can only be romanced by Leliana!

It's funny. We want to play *our* games a certain way and in come a few people trying to meta game (tell us how to play) simply because they're afraid of being tempted by spoilers.

Isn't metagaming what we want? Like, playing an RPG and using outside knowledge while making descisions?

"In role-playing games, metagaming is an "out of character" action where a player's character makes use of knowledge that the player is aware of but that the character is not meant to be aware of."

AKA wanting to know who is available to us as romance options even though our Inquisitor her/himself wouldn't?

On our terms, that's what we want. I'm saying that other people are metagaming for us. They're are telling us how to play, outside of the game.

No, that's not at all what we're doing.

We're not telling you how to play your game.

We're disagreeing with the request for The Chart based upon personal preference.

There's a huge difference between saying "No you are absolutely not allowed to do the thing," and saying "No I don't think I'd like that to be a thing that happens." This thread is about asking if the Biodevs can release a list of who can or can't be romanced. Which is fine, but some of us folks would rather not know. What's happening, is when ever someone disagrees, those folks who want to see this "Chart" seem to think we're attacking them for their choices. Which, outside of perhaps one single poster in this thread, isn't happening.

I don't want The Chart to be a thing. I completely understand WHY folks want it. I'm not judging folks who want it, I just would rather not have it prior to release. Or heck, If they do plan to release it I'd much rather it be pushed back to a week or so prior to release. I'd personally like to go into the game with out that particular knowledge, because romances are a big deal to me. Just like how some folks want that information for the same exact reason.

Some folks enjoy metagaming. I'm okay with that. I enjoy metagaming. I also enjoy NOT metagaming my first playthrough. I enjoy spoiling myself a little bit (as per why I'm here posting in the first place), but I also do my best to reduce the amount of information I'm exposed to. I don't frequent the story discussion boards. As such I felt it prudent to voice said feelings by politely disagreeing with the request to release The Chart.

Please don't take my (or anyone elses) disagreement as an attack on you. If you absolutely feel someone IS attacking you, report them instead of arguing with them.

It's perfectly okay to want to have that knowledge. Just as it's perfectly okay to not want that information. Half the reason I don't want that information released is because It'll force a lot of folks who are excited and want to discuss the game off the boards. Because it wont stay inside the story discussion section. It'll be everywhere. In these forums, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter... and it's very very frustrating to have to cut myself off of pretty much all forums of communication because people are excited for any news of new juicy information. And while I know at some point I will have to, I'd much rather it be later then sooner.

Well, to meet you halfway, I would have zero issue with it being released a week or so prior to the game's release. Of course I want it now, like a delicious piece of chocolate cake.

Why would romance reveals even be considered a spoiler? It's not like they're telling you plot details. This is more akin to revealing what specializations you can pick.

If you are only interested in the announcement of all the romance options, you won't need a chart. You could just say: "BioWare, please announce all the romance options". Granted, I would consider this to be a very mild spoiler but a spoiler nevertheless because I won't be able to figure it out on my own. But this isn't really what you and the other players who are in favour of seeing "the chart" really want, isn't it? As I understood a great concern was about the race gating. So, you want more detailed information as in:

- What character is a love interest?

- For which gender?

- And for which race?

The more detailed the information gets the more spoilerish I consider it to be.

Let me add something for clarification. I don't know how detailed (=spoilerish) their chart is. It could be a very simple Excel file similar to this:

Cullen: romance option / bisexual / all races. Cassandra: romance option / males only / all races. (Obviously I'm just making something up).

But I took a writing seminar once and one of my fellow writers worked with charts too which were far more detailed. His charts were about how characters were seeing each other. So a chart like that would more look like this:

Cullen / bisexual / all races / thinks Cassandra is prudish because she falls for men only. Cassandra: romance option / males only / can't stand Cullen because...

And as I said above, the more detailed the information is the greater is the spoiler. So, yeah, I'm kind of worried that it could reveal plot details, too. Or maybe not so much plot details but more stuff about the characters.

I'm beginning to think the mods need to open a spoiler section of the Inquisition forums and very soon.  I don't care about spoilers, but plenty of others do to.  I think they'll probably get one made closer to the release date, although it doesn't hurt to ask now.  ;)

On some sites and I think one of sera fan posts someone said she's a lesbian sucks for the guys out there that wanted to romance her.

I don't really care about romance in bioware games anymore there characters personality are starting to irritate me like in Dragon age Merrill she was in my opinion the only one worth romancing but she cared more about her ppl then she did u after how they treated her and same with tali from mass effect over all they where like the bronze medal with the silver or gold to me. All this imo
