Well, the PC-gamers originally started to bug console players because they wanted to convince them to switch to PC.
Both for the reason that they wanted them to have a better experience, but also because they wanted to strengthen the PC's position. By then it was obvious that PC-games were threatened. Retailers and publishers wanted the entire market to switch to consoles.
Well into the XB360 and PS3 generation, it was clear that the fears had been warranted. We only get 'console'-games. On the PC too. There are no true major 'PC games' anymore.
Console gamers, though, didn't react to the constant needling in the desired way (of course not). Instead, a defense reaction and fan-boy polarization resulted in aggression and insults such as the "PC-Master race". In yet another value-reversal, the PC-gamers proudly adobted the label.
The valid concerns in all this, is that the consoles' domination definitely impacted game design and impoverished and converged gameplay. The light in the tunnel is that the new generation of consoles have removed these limitations (I'm not talking about graphics).
The karma is that those who originated the push for console-only game publishing, the retailers, are soo screwed (digital sales). PC gaming has continued to steadily grow (as always). They just don't buy games in shops anymore. And the retailers will probably lose the console customers too, eventually.
