So i "staged" my files which took about 3 hours (11 gig in haks)

I understand this is an important part before publishing the server to go online.

Can someone explain what all this does and what i need to do after it is completed?

- I believe i need to do this every time i make changes to the server, but you can skip the hak's if they have not changed.

Cheers

11 gig in HAKs? Hellfire and damnation. Who is going to download that? Hope you are talking before compression to LZMA...

Staging and hosting is a rather arcane topic, especially if you are using ADL.

Have you actuallly tried connecting and seeing if you can download the files or whether you get an error?

Yes...I looked at the Xenograph Arms haks last year.  It may have changed since then, but I wrote these notes about it at the time:

Some of this pack duplicates the Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas conversion, which was a very incomplete mod that included hundreds or thousands of unused (and unnecessary) texture files from those games, adding up to a lot of space, with only a few dozen actual models that could make use of some of those textures.

Additionally, the included override folder includes a large number of files, with the same name but in different folders.  Given the way the override folder works, only one of each uniquely-named file can be used, and any extras are ignored, and just wasted space.

It was only graphics files that I looked at.

Removing models or textures will not cause a crash.  A missing model will result in not seeing the object at all.  A missing texture will result in a 4-coloured image being applied to it, with the words "missing 2D texture" on it.
