No Chevalier Companion?

When the concept art first came out, I thought Blackwall was a chevalier but he turned out to be a Gray Warden... Maybe he was recruited from the ranks of the chevalier??
(That would create a lot of conflict between him and a Sera, seeing as "an informal final test of a Chevalier's training involves roaming the streets, intoxicated, and testing one's blade by killing City elves...")
What do you guys think? Do you wish Bioware had included either a male (or female!) chevalier as a companion?

After the Masked Empire I was sort of hoping that Michel would be a companion but there you go. We do not know Blackwall's backstory. May be he was being trained as a Chevalier and it was his disgust at their training methods that led him to become a Warden. I think he is definitely meant to be Orlesian in origin, if the letter from one of the Orlesian Wardens named Blackwall at the time of the Ferelden Blight was the same person, and it seems too much of a coincidence if it were not.

I wouldn't be surprised if Blackwall isn't Orlesian at all. I think he might be from the Anderfels or something, but we'll see.

It was in World of Thedas.
Edit: Here is a link to a copy of the text.

If he's Orlesian shouldn't he be Murnoir?

I don't understand why BioWare likes Ferelden. It feels like one of the more generic fantasy lands out there.
I'm glad we don't have a Chevalier companion. I'd have to either imprison or kill them on principle.
IIRC, Chevaliers are members of the noble class. Don't you think murdering one might backfire?

I would've liked a Chevalier specialization if we didn't get a companion

They are nobles, yes.
And not really, no. The really bad ones will be killed, the semi-bad ones will be imprisoned, and the 'good'(as in those who have hated what they had to do in their initiation and hate the abuses other Chevaliers inflict on those they should defend) will probably be conscripted.

Warriors kill other warriors. They are not supposed to kill or abuse civilians, especially the civilians they are supposed to protect from being killed or abused.

There is no word civilian in DA world neither it was in our Medieval.

Wrong. The word civilian was around since the 14th century at least so it was a word in our medieval language. And considering Orlais is supposedly in their Renaissance period, they would definitely have it too.

Murdering innocent people in the Alienage as a 'rite of passage' certainly soured my perception of the chevaliers. If Michel shows up in Inquisition as part of a quest, I would hope he's changed considerably.

I'm pretty sure Michel didn't enjoy doing that as well as act like the typical Chevalier

You forgot- they don't have Geneve's convention and Rules of a Man.

And most of them don't enjoyed it. Even Gaspard does what need to be done but he isn't maniac.

For reality of Thedas they are OK.

Yes, because most of the common people seeing them as brutes as much as chivalrous is obviously a sign they are okay with it. ![]()
Besides, rights have to start somewhere. I can be Thedas's starter of it.

Michel has devoted himself to tracking down the demon he accidentally freed so I think there is a possibility there may be a quest associated with him.
The training in the elf alienage isn't the first instance we've had of Chevalier atrocities. People seem to forget the Orlesian girl in the market at Denerim. She and her brother had to flee their homeland because he knocked out a Chevalier who was trying to rape his sister. She said that the Chevalier saw this as his right, hence there being no redress for her or her brother under the law of Orlais. Just as nobles in Orlais think they have Divine right to rule, so the Chevaliers think they are entitled to use peasants, human or elf, as they see fit. So whilst they take their recruits to the elven slums after dark, it is likely that even if anyone witnessed what they did, they would be in no danger of arrest, much less anyone being brave enough to testify against them. The Chevalier code only applies to other nobles.

I felt so bad for Liselle. I'm glad she was able to get away safely.
