I found myself thinking on this subject recently and am genuinely quite curious of how DAI will do it. See, I kind of felt that the only reason that Warden and Warden-Commander worked in DAO/DAA was that it was already a really unnatural discussion system. There was no exact presence or reactions for the player character in the discussions, thus it was easier to craft a clear transition to the player character when they are addressed. Additionally, due to the lack of cinematics in the dialogue, the world is populated with talking heads, which makes it easier to focus to who is talking and to whom. Also, if my memory is correct, in DAO, if there are more than two people in the discussion, the NPCs always make it clear if they are addressing other people than the PC.
However, in a system like they had in DA2 and ME, where the PC is a part of a more dynamic flow of discussion, things become really awkward in a discussion between three or more people if there is no way to clarify that what is being is said to the PC. And if that group of characters is supposed to be friends or close ones, it becomes ridiculously awkward, at least to me, to have them refer to the PC as the Inquisitor. As an example, let us take DAO and all the larger discussion in which Alistair is a participant. Now imagine that none of those other NPCs refer to Alistair as Alistair, but rather as the Warden. It would be really weird really fast.
