None, because there is a limited amount of companions, they convey different perspectives of the world and you can't recruit new ones, so I'm gonna get them all.

At this stage all I can say is: Who knows?

From a role-playing standpoint, my dwarf rogue will do her best to recruit everyone but may end up accidentally cutting herself off from some companions with previous actions or decisions.  I think I'm going to play her as a bit of a pacifist/idealist if possible, so she may end up pissing off some of the more... no nonsense companions.

I do tend to get rather attached to companions so I'll be sad if they turn on or leave the Inquisitor, but I like to stick to certain personality traits when playing so I will enjoy seeing my different PCs having different relationships with their companions.

I am gonna have all of them join the Inquisition. No reason to leave any of them out.

As a Cousland in Origins, I always left Sten to die. IIRC, he is the only one I have never recruited. I have a lot behind at camp, though.

It's way too early to call it for this game. I don't know enough about them. I know I dislike Cole, but I may change my mind during the game. Who knows.

Seeing as how you can apparently send companions out to do their own jobs, it would be a waste to refuse anyone. I'll probably send Sera out to go collect boar livers... for 10 weeks.

Inquisitor: Has anybody seen Sera recently I've got some jobs for her to do.

Soldier: Milord she has yet to return from the last 15 other assignments.

Everybody can join the inquisition, as they can (accidentally) get killed.

Cole & Iron Bull

I would allow Solas and Dorian in, but they may take issue with my support of a reformed Mage Circle. Solas particularly, it seem.

Everyone else is fine, although I'm not fond of Cassandra's Chantry affiliation.

So far, I dont see any reason to ostracize any of them.

Since I lack the power of a seer and do not know what the companions will be like in the game, I will be recruiting them all. I may decide to skip some on a second playthrough if they irk me enough.

Depends on the character, I run a lot of games.  My dwarven inquisitor Tanky McTankitytank thinks elves are only good for testing air quality in mines.  The Qunari Genocidocles doesn't trust wizard types.  Haven't decided on my other inquisitors, but I'm sure they will all be fantasticly biased against someone.  Then again, when the game comes out, I'll also probably choose the companions based entirely on the mission instead.

Obviously no one will be left behind in my main playthrough but alternate playthroughs where I'm playing pro-mage or pro-templar will probably end with a few dead companions on each side.

First play through would keep all, second or third I would kill/send away as many as I could.  Id rather talk to them and know them myself.

The Qun spy a big deal?!  Nope, each Hawke bested the Arishok each time on their own. I decided once to see what a group fight was but that was a reload save to check it out only. Sten gave respect to each Warden he was with if not left to die in couple.

My first Inquisitor will probably recruit everyone but idk if he will keep them all. I guess it depends on how they react to his choices, my warrior femquizy might not recruit cole but I really don't know till I play.

You do realize you aren't actually a Qunari, right? You're a Vashoth, one who is of the horned race but born outside the Qun. Therefor, the anti-mage teaching of the Qun won't apply to your Qunari character. Now if you say that because they'll just distrust magic on their own or believe the Chantry about mages, that's different.

I won't be denying companions, not on my first playthrough anyway. I'd like to experience the content they offer before making such decisions in subsequent playthroughs. Besides, my inquisitor will be taking all the help he can get, provided the help in question isn't visibly sketchy or predictably a danger to the Inquisition...

That being said, I'm sure my Inquisitor will come into conflict with some of the companions:

Sera - For her stance against the "for the greater good" approach, and her disdain toward the nobility, which my Inquisitor will be from and/or aspire to be.

Blackwall - For his conviction in honor and noble ideals, which may hinder performance in this all-out, anything goes period of turmoil.

Solas - Could go either way depending on where my Inquisitor ends up falling on the pro-mage - pro-circle spectrum and his views on fade spirits.

My Qunari Inquisitor will want to have as large an army as possible so anyone who can fight is welcome to join her.

My Human on the other hand is going to be a devout Andrastian and extremely pro-Chantry so I expect her to have issues with Solas as he's an apostate and she'll probably attack Cole on sight if possible.

These threads that pose questions like "which companion will you [insert thing]?" puzzle me.

Varric, Cassandra and to some extent Cole are known personalities, but everyone else really is just a face. How can we really know who we want to [insert thing] with at this stage?

I ask, not as a veiled judgment, but because I see so many users have really firm ideas about characters and I wonder just what is fueling such opinions?

This trend in the DA fan base has always puzzled me as well. We know next to nothing about most of these characters, but already many of the people here have expressed extreme feelings about them ranging from a desire to viciously murder or viciously "romance" them before they even get a real first impression. It seems that a lot of people get ideas about these characters from scenarios that they've made up in their heads and then project those feelings onto them and are probably very saddened or frustrated when the reality doesn't match up. Some mental health institution should do a study on the phenomenon.

This is not the way I've ever played. I don't try to plan out playthroughs months before I ever buy the game based off of conjecture and half-truths. I try to experience everything fresh and take things as they come. I've also never had any vendettas against a fictional character. I'll only kill a character when it make sense from a role playing perspective and not because of pre-conceived notions.

I think my first two play throughs are taking everybody but my second play through(human mage) is gonna be a huge ******* to Cole and Solas.

Between a planned devout human Andrastian Inquisitor and a planned Dalish Mage Inquisitor, I feel like at least one of them is going to object to Cole's presence. But I haven't decided which one it will be.

I can pretty much gurantee you that one of my Inquisitors may not get along with Cole, at all.  And may not want to recruit him because he is not into the whole demon though, but I the player and he the Inquisitor will like having all resources he possibly can have available to him, available to him.  But it is an interesting question especially since, in this case, there might actually be one.

So far, all the companions sound interesting to me. I wouldn't exclude anyone (although Vivienne might end up being a tad antagonistic, given that my characters favor mage freedom).

All of them the first playthrough and then decide from there
