Well I'd written Varric off as extremely unlikely. And to be honest, he always kind of faded into the background. Except for my last, aborted playthrough of DA2. At some point in Act 2 after dragging Fenris and Merrill around, Fenris had said something rather cruel to Merrill that left me grumbling "Are there no sane, kind men in Kirkwall?" I dropped off Varric's signet ring and it hit me that there was one, he just wasn't available. So I hope you get what you want. I might even join you.

And Varric romance is exactly the kind of reveal they'd do late.

Agreed, I think they'll be saving Varric for last.  I wouldn't mind being wrong though.

Varricmancers, if Iron Bull is a love interest for any gender/race - anything is possible.  BW seems to be going a bit off-type in this game so a Qunari and Dwarf romance would be amazing.

I'm definitely about saving the best for last.  And if that line he said in DA2 is true, and he ends up being a romance, and is race-restricted, I hope it's only restricted against humans.  And if not, well, I'll be happy to romance him as any kind of dwarf.

Not gonna lie, if Varric is restricted against humans but not qunari, I'll laugh pretty much forever.

I think gated against qunari would be likely IMO for story reasons, clearly.

Yeah, I bet Varric is race-gated against Qunari at least, based on the comments about how he won't get along well with Iron Bull because of his past tensions with qunari

Me too, I never put much stock into it.  It's clear that Varric lies and is prone to exaggeration.  I always thought it was a throw-away line of dismissal for Hawke.

Oh yeah! It did say in the writer interview that he doesn't get along super well with IB because he is still a bit traumatized from the Qunari attack on Kirkwall, so maybe he'll just be race-gated against Qunari and Viv is human-only?

That would pretty much be my reaction too. I would see it as Bioware trying to force people to play as the other races by restricting one of the most popular characters to anything non-human.
