Well, I'd love to see Varric as an LI I think DA needs a romance that grows from friendship to something more, someone to laugh with rather than give therapy to. So fingers crossed

Yeah, I know.  It isn't fun.  We just need to remember that the only one that can ultimately shut us up is the devs.  For now, I do recommend backing off from talking about Varric too much in the romance threads until we know about the rest of the Lis.  I know it seems a little unfair, but it's much better than getting into frustrating debates all the time.  

 

Remember: Varric fans always try to take the high road, and present ourselves with class.  Even if it's really...really...really difficult sometimes.  It's hurtful, but I think of some of the more hardcore shippers as fans that are just as passionate as we are.  We shouldn't let their passions about a video game hit us personally.  I don't think they mean it to be hurtful, but to sum up DG (can't find the exact quote atm)

 

"Trust me.  There's no unforgivable sin like the circumvention of a player's headcanon."

 

So just remember that and keep hoping!  We have nothing to lose.  Romance or no, either way, we'll get our friend back.  If we look at it in a negative way, we'll just depress ourselves, and that's no good.

That's what I've been thinking Chesty, that is just heartless...people can say whatever they like about DG but I'm not sure he'd be THAT cruel.

Wow, this thread exploded! I'm happy with an Iron Bull LI, I'm sure I'll omance him on one of my playthroughs at least.
I'm pretty sure I've seen that the remaining two LIs will be the race gated ones. Still think a Varric romance is still possible, it would be quite sad to have Qunari romance, but not a sexy dwarf one! Perhaps he's just available to dwarves, maybe because his romance arc opens up from something he has common ground with over both being surface dwarves, or something only a dwarf could help him with/special dialogue or something like that.
I'm anxious to know his availability!

The tweet was a fake? Odd thing to to fake. But I guess whatever floats your boat . I dunno... I don't think Gaider would be the one to start the trolling but he definitely appreciates someone else's work and promotes it when he can. Or he could just be making a joke about how hot the dwarves are in The Hobbit, and it's not really relevant to DA:I, especially since he's not even Varric's writer.

But it could just apply to other LIs for a dwarf Inquisitor...

 

And not apply for the only dwarf companion in the group...

Like I said, I'm not sure if it's real or not...I personally thought it was but Chernaya mentioned something about it being fake. Unless she was talking about something else and I completely misread but I'm pretty sure. We should ask her about it tomorrow or something..

 

 

Yup! Gaider secretly leads a massive army of trolls that he communicates with using his Jedi mind powers...That way, he doesn't get his hands dirty but he can still reap the fan tears for his collection. _{That sneaky snake.....}

 

In all seriousness though, it really is the same thing. Going back to his tumblr post, by reblogging that "article" he tricked people into clicking it and getting excited about the prospect of a Varric romance only to be completely crushed. I was one of those people and I spent the rest of the day depressed after that. So, he may not be the source of the original post but he was just as much a participant, and definitely trolling.

 

It's especially cruel because he KNOWS how much fans want a Varric romance & the fact that he's joking about it would be horrible if Varric is not an LI again. I'm sure he knows that & I'd like to think that Gaider isn't that cruel. So, I'm hoping that the reason he's okay with joking about it, is because our favorite dwarf will indeed be returning as a romanceable character.

 

Going back to the tweet again, you could be right and he's talking about the dwarves appearances rather than DAI. Depends on how you look at it I guess, could go either way. And yes he may not be Varrics writer, but he is lead writer, so he could presumably have some influence on it.

I don't see why it has to be a fake. It's just a very old tweet.

Maybe Gaiders stance is that he doesn't like dwarf romances, but that still doesn't mean that it can't be in the game. I doubt he'd take away from the story just because he personally doesn't like it.

 In the case of revisiting a character from a previous game, the developers incorporate conversations and discussions on that character from different venues (internally, fan reception, etc) and "weave the threads together" to construct how a character acts, reacts, feels, and thinks.

 

This was in ladyinsanity's coverage of the romance panel, figured this tidbit could be interesting/relevant to Varric. I wonder what parts of "fan reception" they took into consideration.

Whhhaaaaaaaaat? wait...

At least the race-gating for iron bull was removed because they found a way to make the size difference not matter. That could mean that they could make animation for say.. a certain dwarf... work for eg qunari. 

 

But I'm not sure if they have chosen to keep the other race-gate in for story reasons (though it seems it really was for technical reasons all along?). Can anyone ask about this on twitter, please? I'm very confused...
