Well, they did say they were trying to be more fair/equal with sexual orientation and not race, so the inequality part they warned about may come with race (the the race-gating) rather than gender/sexual orientation.

Yes.  They said they were aiming for gender/sexual orientation equality, not race, so that's what I based my wish list off of.  They said, "Not all race/gender combinations will be available to the player."  I figure that Varric being a straight LI would qualify as at least all races without availability, but I still wouldn't mind sharing.  It's not like a guy player can come into my game and take Varric away from me.  Plus, I can think of a few gay men that would find Varric very hot with all that chest hair.

I understand that, but I don't want the racist debate in here.  Pretty please?  I respect where you are coming from, and I do think you have a point.  However, I'm going to politely agree to disagree for now.  

 

The "racism debate" tends to go nowhere fast, because neither side is inclined to change their mind.  I wouldn't mind chatting with you about it sometime in the romance thread (because I think Vivienne being gated could be considered just as racist towards non-humans,) but we'd like to keep his fan thread peaceful.

Nooo, Varric isn't racist. He may only be attracted to one species, but that isn't uncommon in lore. Remember, human to dwarf is a lot different than the difference in skin colors. I bet he's open to all skin colors!

I agree with this, but I'm also pretty certain that comment he made in the game was a joke and if he is race-gated, it may not be to humans...

My personal favorite was when I heard someone call pan/bisexuals "lazy."  He was saying that we were lazy because, "We don't feel like picking a side."  I thought I'd heard it all until that day.

I can't with people. Honestly, I'm really happy that the place I was raised in here in NYC is the least place you expect any type of discrimination and that my family is so accepting.

 

It's called "The Village" here in NYC, and theres Rainbow flags for the LGBT movement on every street corner. The Gay Pride Parade is held really close, and its an area where theres a lot of LGBT support and acceptance, etc. I'm glad my nieces were raised in the area because when my sister moved out and my nieces started going to school there were of course bad mouthing little children due to close minded raising but my nieces always maintained there was nothing wrong and the oldest one now results in telling people, "It's their life and they love who they  love, its not hurting you" I was so proud!!!

 

Anyway, That was way off topic but I felt nostalgic and I wanted to share.

Some people are scared and react negatively about things they don't understand, and that's the nicest way I have of saying it without being a jerk. Some people are ignorant or misinformed...

I'm not worried about that. The Solas thread was REALLY down in negativity. I hope the visit cheered them up. I feel bad for them.

I suppose it scares people, or rather just plays on some very basic insecurities.  Hypothetically, in a relationship in which one person is straight/homosexual and the other is bisexual, the straight/homosexual partner may fear losing their SO to anyone and not just to a single gender.  Paranoia leads to hostility, etc.

I'll admit, it is rather depressing to see the fan thread for Vivienne, Morrigan and Varric with zero BioWare posts.  

 

Two out of three of those characters I know where written by Mary Kirby, and she almost never posts.  She tweets quite a bit though, and she might come by to see us once the LI announcement or rejection lands.  I do wish that Allan or someone would stop by and offer some moral support for both us and for Vivienne's thread though.  

 

Morrigan's thread is also oddly BW post free, which is weird to me.  I'd have hoped that at least a dev had gone, "Heya, glad you see you're looking forward to Morrigan again," or at least answer the, "Where's the OGB?" question that pops up sometimes in that thread.

Mhm. That question comes up plenty, and I'm even curious. Granted, I don't expect it to be answered before game.
