The Nosferatu thing still pisses me off. I mean, full disclosure, first time I saw Solas I went, "Eh, not really my type, hope he's not romanceable." I changed my mind later, but that was my first reaction. But I never would have mocked the character as ugly, or whined about how getting him meant getting screwed over. It still blows my mind how rude people can be about this stuff. The devs interact with us all the time, and I appreciate that, and you'd think we'd be more polite as a community because of it... but no.

I had pretty much the same reaction. But then I remembered that if someone had shown me a picture of Garrus before I played ME, and told me that this would be my favorite romance, I would have laughed and said "yeah right". To me, the physical appearance is just one part of what makes the character attractive. The personality is almost always more important. And the more I learn about Solas, the more interesting he becomes. And I would pick characters where the physical appearance and personality match over a group of supermodels every time.

I had pretty much the same reaction. But then I remembered that if someone had shown me a picture of Garrus before I played ME, and told me that this would be my favorite romance, I would have laughed and said "yeah right". To me, the physical appearance is just one part of what makes the character attractive. The personality is almost always more important. And the more I learn about Solas, the more interesting he becomes. And I would pick characters where the physical appearance and personality match over a group of supermodels every time. 

I've used Garrus as an example several times.  I've actually seen someone say, "Solas is just hideous, but I think Garrus is the most attractive character in Mass Effect."

 

Me (thinking, but not typing:) That's only because you don't know Solas as a person, and Garrus has a great personality.  I'm betting you were singing a different tune before ME2 came out.  You jackass.

It wasn't his looks, but his voice kind of hooked me.  After playing through the series the first time, he almost edged out Shale as my second favorite character in BW's history.  He is my favorite romance for sure.

That's funny because when I first saw Garrus I knew he would be my favorite.

I understand IB not being 'conventionally attractive' (which is never something I personally cared about obviously), but what's the deal with Solas? Is it just because he's bald? Is that it? xD Otherwise, I think his facial features are actually pretty great looking.

However, the only romance that makes me change my mind is Garrus. They are practically neck and neck for my favorite Bioware romance.

Agreed!!!! Granted I liked the original Solas look a bit more (I didn't see the Nicolas cage comparison everyone else was on about) but I thought he was really handsome. I still do.

That's funny because when I first saw Garrus I knew he would be my favorite. 

I didn't much pay attention to his looks at all.  Then again, I'm weird like that in games sometimes; I notice the personality more than the actual body.  I knew by the end of ME I was going to romance him in my next binge of the series.  I wanted to stay loyal to Liara, but I was already 1/2 in love with Garrus before the end of ME2.

 

Then, right before Shep goes for the beam the last time, the line between the two of them even on the friendship arc made me break down into tears.  

 

"There is no Shepard without Vakarian."  Yep, I lost it and started crying for about 2 minutes.

I never found him gross, I thought his design was really cool. I remember the first time I played ME, when Shepard met him for the first time. I was all "I LIKE YOU, WILL YOU PLEASE JOIN MY TEAM?" But not sure I was attracted to him like that. Not saying Solas is gross or anything, dude looks fine. And with the right voice, anything can happen!

My personal opinion - his face was really thin and pale, and it made him look kind of sickly. And then you have his ears sticking right the hell out, which just made the thinness a lot more dramatic. And the lack of hair didn't help. I don't want to say he was hideous or anything, but.

Just be careful of the romance thread.  There is some posters that are pretty ticked off about that.  I'm not starting the debate here, but let's just say that some believe that "race-gating for story reasons," = "racist against the race gated against."  <sigh>

Depends on the story reasons. For example if Varric is an LI and doesn't romance Qunari because of what happened in Kirkwall, they are right.

Yeah! I was sad when they took away his cleft chin because I have one too and was all like "Yeah! cleft chin represent!" xD But he still looks great to me. haters gonna hate, I suppose. Nothing escapes the hate eventually, lol.

@Foe Then Cole came along and made Solas look tan and muscular.    I know that Cole isn't a LI (thank goodness,) but Solas doesn't really look that bad.  I think he's got some striking looks.  Solas isn't my type, but he looks interesting and very far from ugly.  Some of the same posters that wanted a Cole romance have been slamming on both IB and our poor Dreamer.  Shoot, at least Solas looks like he's still alive for Goddess sakes.

Jennifer Hales delivery of that conversation just destroys me every time. Romance or not, that's how you say farewell to a partner.

Oh I see. Interesting, I can see where you're coming from though. Do you think he looks better now after the 'revamp'?
