Then Cole came along and made Solas look tan and muscular. I know that Cole isn't a LI (thank goodness,) but Solas doesn't really look that bad. I think he's got some striking looks. Solas isn't my type, but he looks interesting and very far from ugly. Some of the same posters that wanted a Cole romance have been slamming on both IB and our poor Dream. Shoot, at least Solas looks like he's still alive for Goddess sakes.

My question is... Were they slamming IB and Solas looks but fawning over Cole? Because if so....

That may have helped, yes.  :P

In seriousness... I don't think it was ever that bad, but when you've got one photograph to go on, it can be easy to make snap judgment that are perhaps not entirely fair. Now that I've gotten used to the old photo, I think it looks fine.

I didn't much pay attention to his looks at all.  Then again, I'm weird like that in games sometimes; I notice the personality more than the actual body.  I knew by the end of ME I was going to romance him in my next binge of the series.  I wanted to stay loyal to Liara, but I was already 1/2 in love with Garrus before the end of ME2.

Then, right before Shep goes for the beam the last time, the line between the two of them even on the friendship arc made me break down into tears.

"There is no Shepard without Vakarian."  Yep, I lost it and started crying for about 2 minutes.

Oh, yes, most of my favorite characters are based on personality alone, I guess I just thought he looked supa cool. ME3 was just a mess of tears for me. T-T

Hmmm.... I can understand why Varric would be hesitant about romancing a Qunari though, considering what happened in Act 2.

There is a couple of posters that did that, yes.  It was a very <facedesk> worthy moment.

I never thought he looked that bad, just different.  It's not like there hasn't be a bald elf that still looked nice in the DA games or anything... <sigh>

That's my thoughts as well.

Which they?  The ones that think he's racist?  I'm proceeding with extreme caution here, and I'm not wanting to do more than touch lightly on this.

Yes, those they.

Seriously... :x I do not see the attraction to Cole. I'm sure I'll enjoy him as a character and plan on being kind to him (as long as he's kind, which he seems to be) but... I dunno. I can be potentially attracted to lots of different people, but when people look dead, that's past even my comfort zone... xD

That's just disturbing! I'm guessing they haven't read asunder. I hope not, otherwise... Damn, people can be scary sometimes.

Okay, thanks for letting me know.   :)

If this really does come up for Inquisition, we can discuss it more then.  There is still a chance that it's one of the known LIs that are race-gated, or both of the known ones.  We'll wait and see.

The problem is they have read the book and figured that Cole had grown up enough mentally to romance him.  I can understand wanting a chaste or asexual romance, but Cole wouldn't have been a good choice.  The devs did seem open to the idea when someone asked at GaymerX yesterday, just not with that character.

There's also the spiritmance folks. I think some people just like that idea and tend to jump on any opportunity they get, without really thinking it through.

And there were some who just wanted a younger LI (most of the inquisition members are in their thirties-forties, minus Cole and maybe Sera). So they were also involved.

Ah, that explains it. But yes, Cole would be a bad pick. And personally, I would prefer that the first real asexual romance was with someone who's not a spirit-demon-corpse thing. It would just serve to cement the view that asexuality is something really weird.

Of the confirmed LIs so far, here's most likely to least likely to be racegated in my opinion.

Iron Bull was originally race-gated but now we know is pansexual.

Cullen could be since he has called both Dwarves and Qunari 'heathens' in past games.

Sera possibly since she may hold a grudge against humans for how they treat elves

Dorian gets along with Iron Bull who is of the race he is most likely against, but could be because both are against the grain.

Cassandra has never really shown a dislike for other races.

Josephine we know is pansexual.

And this is still the only thread where nobody is a jerk it seems.  -_- Everything goes to crap when an LI is announced and trolls come out of the woodwork. This is what will be bittersweet about Varric if he ends up being confirmed.

I'd also add that Cassandra is described as "secretly a romantic", and since racegating is explicitly about personality now, I seriously doubt she'd fit.

I figure, as an example, if Cullen is race-gated against dwarves and Qunari, then the other LI will be gated against elves and humans.  I can't think of a good candidate right now (IB would have been my thought prior to this weekend,) but that's my guess as to how I think this will play out.

I can understand that.  My thoughts is that once the game actually comes out, the age factor is going to be pretty much a moot point.

I don't think they'll make the two confirmed straight characters or the two confirmed gay characters race gated imho.

Some people claim she might be race gated due to her connection to the Nevarran throne. Though I seriously doubt that will be the case.

They've explicitly said race-gating wouldn't be even, though. Until Iron Bull was confirmed as non-racegated, I'd been kind of assuming that both the racegate characters would go for humans, since that was the biggest player base in DAO. Could be totally wrong, but it's something to consider.

I honestly can't see any of the current LI's reason's for being race-gated, but then again I can see myself being surprised. xP

She could be the female Alistair. Then at last the dudebros will know our pain and Gaider will have more tears to collect!

They said that not all genders/races will have the same options.  If you take out Solas as a LI, then only women have an elf to romance for example.  So that's a race/gender combination that might not to happen.  So I think the gating will be even, since we already know about Sera.  Make Varric straight and he's the only dwarven romance that's only accessible to women.  Stuff like that.

I have to admit, I'd kind of like Cullen to be racegated just because it would be a ballsy move, but it would also make perfect sense. And if people want Cullen as a romance, sure, they can have him. Warts and all.

I kinda thought they meant gender/race/sexuality combinations for the Inquisitor, though. A lesbian dwarf might not have as many options as a straight human man. Saying that the combinations of the love interest's races won't be even seems... kind of obvious, to me? I just don't think they'd stop to spell that out, necessarily.
