This is funny. The level of overall disdain for Sebastian is pretty palpable in this thread. Personally, I didn't even find him all that attractive, except for those amazing eyes and that really nice voice. I've heard the VA in other games (He was Engineer Donelly in ME,) and it's almost distracting. Not as bad as Gideon Emery, but close.

I used to wish he got an army though, Hawke VS Sebastian would have been awesome.
That would have been preeeetty cool, I agree. (I would've pwned him and felt awesome about it)

Ugh, Gideon Emery. I was so in love with him after Balthier in FF .
Then I heard Fenris and I was like YAS.
Him and Brian Bloom. Their voices. I...my life. I can't.

I generally find Sebastian kind of interesting. I always got the impression he'd been controlled his whole life, either by his family or by the Chantry, so he never really had an opportunity to make his own decisions. Which I can sort of relate to, on some level.
... And then he says something that just makes me go, "Sebastian. Just. Stop talking. Please." The "we should betray the mages!" line was a classic example.

This is the Varric thread, we do not like preachy people who tell us what to do. And wasn't Seb one of the few people that Varric never really got along with?

He was the only companion that Varric wasn't friendly to and yeah, I think he's one of the few that he didn't get along with in general.

Apparently the human Inquisitor is Varric's (and Sebastian's! Also Cassandra's... kinda) countryman. I wonder how Varric will feel about that, particularly if he ends up being related to one of the ruling families.

In Act 1, but if you take him along for Legacy as a Grey Warden, Varric comments that Carver finally grew up. It's actually pretty sweet.

Varric racegated because the human Inquisitor is his cousin. Semi-confirmed rumor.

You've probably been reading the rants on Seb, but he's a very YMMV character. Otherwise, I personally did enjoy the quests and there is a pretty well done Leliana cameo in Act 3.

The quests I liked. And you get to see Leliana in action, which is great.
Sebastian... well, character's always up to personal taste, so you'll have to draw your own conclusions. As a rogue he's crap.

This. He is an archer, but starts with a ton of strength and low agi/cunning for some reason. With Varric around, Seb was redundant in my games.

Even if you don't compare him to Varric (which is a hard bar to clear, let's be fair) he's pretty lousy. I did his romance arc once, and carried him around the whole game because I like travelling with my LI. The game pretty quickly turned into, "Let's see how fast Sebastian gets knocked out this time!"

For a session when I did drag him around (until he pulled that mage line on me,) I went to the Black Emporium and fixed those stats with the Maker's Breath. After getting his agi and cunning up to actually useable levels (~30 pts,) I dumped all the rest into Con. He was surprisingly useful and fun. A Varric/Seb/Archer Hawke/Anders or Aveline party just destroyed everything. It was pretty awesome.

Huh, there's a thought. I'm not great at the stat side of games, so I didn't think of that. Thanks.
