I'm not so concerns over the romance centering pining over Bianca the whole time, if he is romancable
I'd hope not. However, it would be nice if he referred to the events in the comics, particularly Until We Sleep. I don't mind him discussing Bianca, but I'm with you as far as not wanting to play therapist and help him get over Bianca.

Yeah, agreed. Discussing Bianca, maybe explaining hesitance of a relationship with him because of her. Something like that, if he's LI, I would like.

Yeah, I think he should a least mention her, as she is/was someone who was very important to him... but no constant talking about her/pining over her. x( That just gets awkward. I never romanced Thane in ME, but I think him mourning over his wife all the time was a problem to a lot of people who played his romance arc.

I'll have to try the Thane romance, because that isn't something I heard a lot about. It was more of "OMG, why couldn't he be cured?" that I've heard is the major compliant.

Yeah, it would be equally weird if he didn't mention Bianca all together. Outside of his weapon, naturally.

actually, he didn't mourn all the time (I didn't see it anyway). I thought it was done well.Yeah, I think he should a least mention her, as she is/was someone who was very important to him... but no constant talking about her/pining over her. x( That just gets awkward. But Liara is my space girl friend , then I settle for Garrus or Thane to be different haha

Oh that's good, I was just going by things I've seen people say online so I didn't really know for sure. I was going to romance him someday because I enjoy his character but after playing ME3 I got too depressed to consider it. :/ My main playthrough I was stuck with Kaidan the whole time... ugh... I'm glad that series is amazing in itself. xD I really wanted femshep/Jack, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. :c
Garrus was my DA2 Varric. x3 We were besties and it was amazing. If I ever go through another playthrough though, I'm going to try his romance. ~

Fun fact.
Anagrams of Varric Tethras = Tract Ravisher , Ravish Retract.
Talk about innuendos. ![]()

You're going to love it. While Liara's was very sweet, Garrus' was amazing. They blended the friendship and romance paths so brilliantly, it's well on it's way to becoming my favorite BW romance. ![]()

At Varric's age he doesn't strike me as a guy that would be pining after so many years. She'd still have a place in his heart for sure, and I think he would make that known, but at some point you've got to cut your losses and move on with your life too.
Obsessing over it isn't healthy.

Same. I mean I'd romance Varric regardless but I'm not crazy about being his replacement Bianca.
I'm not Bianca
I'm the Inquisitor
Bianca left you years ago

Seconded!
But I mostly just wanted to add that that's a beautiful snake in your icon.
Oh Silkie needs to add that to the OP.
Eep! Three awesome sexy BAMF's all in one image? Awesome and added to front post.

So, Varric lovers of the thread; What was the moment that made you really fancy Varric?

When he shot the guy pickpocketing Hawke in the shoulder and started talking about how he knew someone that could pickpocket others just by smiling at him. From then on I knew his personality in the game would be awesome and that no matter what he was going to be my bro.
Also another question for the Varric thread. Do you think that letting Varric keep the piece of red lyrium will have implications for him in Inquisition?

"Varric Tethras, at your service."
Something I noticed just earlier today; during that first conversation with him, the theme for Orzammar is playing in the background. ![]()

For me, the moment I really started liking his character (Though the beginning was just great) was hearing his party banter. He cared for the companions, had a respect for Aveline (Even if he said she scared him)..All off this just made me like him more and all conversations with Hawke I just...I grew so attached! Haha
And I think it SHOULD effect him. Whether it will be implemented in the game i'm not sure but it should be.

-insert super cool bolt twirl- I was so jealous. I imagined my rogue Selena doing that or trying to in her free time and well..it would end up with plenty of injuries. Varric is the only one cool enough to pull it off ;3

For me it was really just a gradual increase of how awesome I thought he was through the game, but his banter and dialogue in the tavern were some of my favorite things. In a group full of really uptight (usually) companions, having him along was really refreshing and made everything seem so much more... friendly and chill. lol. Also, the way he protected many of the characters behind the scenes but never talked about it was really sweet.

I also loved the nicknames he gave the characters (Minus Aveline and Hawke)
Though I did giggle when I heard him call Selena 'Chuckles' because she was sarcastic Hawke 100%. It fit her personality I had in my mind perfectly, including that awkward joke when Saemus died in the Chantry. She doesn't know how to deal with those kind of situations.
Though My Diplomatic Hawke/Rosalie being called Waffles made me go ? WHY WAFFLES? haha

I couldn't help but always use sarcastic Hawke and I loved that nickname. I remember the Saemus joke... I kinda felt bad afterwards, but oh well. xD I even made the sandwich joke after the romance scene with Anders. I was rarely ever serious... it was needed with that bunch you were stuck traveling with lol.

For me it's the moment right after that where he swaggers right on up to Hawke, coin purse in hand, twirling that arrow. I think it's impossible for me to watch that scene and not smile.
As for the lyrium shard, I'm not sure. I refused to let him keep it, I mean considering what it did to his brother it seemed like a bad idea. Did anyone here give him the shard?
Now the really weird thing about that quest where you obtain the lyrium shard is that even though it isn't in Varric's possession until the end of the quest, while you're exploring the mansion Varric acts as if he can already "hear" the shard. I believe he starts claiming to hear voices and singing before you encounter Bartard so I'm wondering if the shard might have affected him regardless.
Or maybe dwarves are more sensitive to the red lyrium?
