Guys I think the Varricmance is honestly going to happen, I'm working on the assumption that the last two LI's are race-gated. But if they are I see no reason why it wouldn't be Varric, He makes the most sense by far.

Same here! I think Vivienne and Varric have the best chances at this point. But I'm trying not to get too excited, that'll only make it hurt more if he isn't.

I'm just wondering why race-gating needs to happen, since they managed to make IB not gated at all. 

 

of course if it's a massive amount of extra work that would take time/resources away from other important things I totally understand and really don't mean it in a douchey way

Didn't they say it was because of story purposes, rather than cinematics/work/time?

I'm sure that's why. They had it planned out and scripted and lines written for the major race gate to be for the story.

 

For IB, the "story" was just no no, I'll brake you. Not a lot of extra scripting there... they probably just cut one line and left eveyrthing else the same, changed the program to not have the lines *if elf, run script blah blah* and let the program be the same for all races. still could bug everything, but less a problem than re-doing whole character conversations (I assume ?)

Story reasons. So as far as I'm concerned, anyone could be gated!

True! I always thought perhaps it was initially due to cinematics and they would add story reasons in to help make it more understandable, but it could also just be for story purposes. It's not hard to imagine that not every character would be interested in every race.

I think part of it is to drop the work load a little and part of it is because they've already had Varric state he isn't into humans.

I would hope it would be for story purposes. 

 

I'm not trying to sound ungrateful but after they poured extra time into IB (which is great mind you I'm very happy that happened and totally plan to romance him as a dwarf at some point) if it came down to pure technical reasons why Varric is racegated I would be kind of...annoyed. I mean once I got over the pure happiness of having a Varrric romance.

I know alot of people are urked about the whole race-gating, can't romance everyone like in DA2 thing but I rather like it. I think it makes the game more enjoyable and adds a level of depth to the characters. I love that they have their own preferences, beliefs, ect. To me it makes them seem more, i dunno.. "alive?"

I think Varric has story reasons to not want to be with a Qunari, after DA2. Bad memories. I hope he still can be friends with my Qunari quizzy if that's the case though. :'c
