Why on earth do so many people think that Varric can't be an LI because he wasn't interested in Hawke? Have these people never had a friend they didn't want to sleep with?

Anders wasn't interested in the Warden in Awakening.

 

Tali and Garrus weren't interested in Shepard in ME1.

 

These people need to shut the heck up.

Garrus and Tali were also not revealed until super late. They were the surprise romance options.

 

Theres an optimistic part of me that believes they are doing the same thing with Varric.

If you had asked someone if they thought Garrus and Tali would be LI's in Mass Effect 2 they would of said no. Because if they weren't interested in ME1 why would they be interested now ? It's really the same thing here.

I really am starting the think Cullen might be race gated against dwarves and Qunari. Because, as a Templar who probably still is devoted to the Chantry, this makes some sense. And IB previously being race gated, against dwarves I think for definite, and perhaps for all but Qunari, Varric was the choice to have as a dwarven LI, and MK has created his story to make this believable, even I think it's believable for him to only be into dwarves (a racist this does not make).
Then one of the final LI's to be announced (other than Varric) would be an ungated male. This would have given at least 2 options for straight women and gay/bi males, prior to IB ungating, no matter what race they rolled. Of course, now it's a little more unequal if this is true, giving straight women and gay/bi males (if Varric is bi) 3 choices, and everyone else 2. Obviously IB was only very recently ungated, after all other LI's were decided. So if Vivienne had always been an LI choice, the gender split would have been unequal before towards straight men and gay/bi women if she was/is bi.
I don't think there's much chance, due to lack of female companions and race gating, for there to be an equal split for genders/sexuality/races anymore, because of IB being ungated, not that I'm complaining, it's awesome he is now, but I understand it was there for a reason (cinematics) and took an awful lot of hard work to have him available to all races.
The more I think about it, the more it seems possible.

I don't see them gating Cullen, especially not with his ungodly amount of fans. If he is gated the amount of pissed off fans is going to be something to see.

 

I still think Varric and Viv will be bi though, because I agree,  gender and racegating is overkill.

Hehe well I doubt Bioware would do it just for the fans - they made him straight after all.

 

And yeah, Viv and Varric haven't explicitly stated they're not into certain genders.
