Yeah, I was taking a look at the 'Are you psyched about ME4 ?" Thread. Most of the replies are. "Nope I'm never buying another Bioware game again and if Bioware wants me to buy there next game they should re-do ME3" Are you kidding me guys ?

My favorite is reading those kinds of threads, like the "Are you at peace with ME3," and seeing folks go, "Man, no one wants to play this crap series.  Everyone knows that ME3 sucked, so BioWare should redo it.  I've warned all my friends and no one is going to pay for this terrible game."

Me <reading the thread back in the beginning of June>: That's nice and all, but I finished the series for the first time a few days ago and I loved it.  The ending was terrible, but at least it made a little more sense than the ending to Chrono Cross did.  I still love Chrono Cross despite the ending, I feel the same about ME as well.

They wouldn't drag it out this long for a big no right?!

For the sake of the fans, I really hope not.

I didn't like the Mass Effect ending but it didn't make it a bad thing. Sometimes I think people hate on it just because it's cool to.

Not everyone, just some people.

I never saw the point of the whole "OMG THE ENDING RUINED THE ENTIRE SERIES" mindset in the first place.

I can't entirely blame them though, I really can't.  I saw the pre-EC endings and they were very poorly done.  I do have the EC, which after the Starbrat conversation had some decent endings.

Yet, during the Citadel scene, I found myself, against my will, yelling, "Are you serious?  No, stop it.  Oh come on, this is really stupid," during every minute with the Starbrat.  If I had been left with just the pre-EC ending to start, I probably would have been bitter too.  I've talked to some of the folks on my friends list about that who were serious ME fans prior to that sequence of events.   Most of them have said that they are happy I enjoyed it though.

However, for those that are still that actively angry?  Maybe it's just me, but holding onto to that much hate never seems good for anyone.

It just soured the whole experience for them, I think.  The pre-EC endings "variation" was a rather sad joke.

Aye, pre EC, which would have been my first playthrough, just after release was like this "Wha?   What did I do?  I..." *scratches head*  Followed by tumblr_msebv9iJJ01sgjov7o1_500.gif

With a little bit of tumblr_mopdv4YTZM1ry4933o1_r1_500.gif

But after the EC everything was much much calmer...at least for me...

Oh I beat the whole game in two sittings on launch day, I saw the original endings. They sucked terribly. But it was just like "Well that was disappointing". I still enjoyed the game and I think for a lot of people the ending made the whole game seem terrible when really it was a pretty solid game with a badly written ending.

*yawn* oi. I peeked in to see if we made it to 200 yet, and I see I haven't missed it yet. x3

i probably will though cuz i really need to go back to sleep so i'm gonna miss it dern

and the Mass Effect forums were definitely not a nice place right after ME3, that's for sure. x( I had my disappointments about the ending but lots of people just took that to a crazy level.

So I thought I'd wander into the Varric thread and see what was up, and this thing of beauty has just reminded me exactly how much I loved Varric in DA2. And how frustrated I was that hitting on him produced zero results. And what a hot jacket that is.

I think I need to come in here more often.  :)

If you don't mind my asking, is there a going theory in here on if/how he'd be gated if he's available? I'm planning on playing an elf and then a human (one a rogue, one a mage, haven't decided which is which yet but both female) and I'm hoping that if Varric is a LI that he'd be an option for either. For what it's worth, I'm feeling like he's awfully likely as one of the remaining two.

I wanted to mention that I didn't forget about this post.

If Varric is gated, this is what I figure.

Qunari--Maybe.  I'm of two minds about this.

I'm going to do some more research on the effects of PTSD, but I wouldn't be surprised if Varric's got a mild case of it due to the Qunari.  Not to the levels that apparently Iron Bull's story arc is getting into, but I think it's still there for Varric.  My husband recommended a couple of documentaries about that.  I know of vets of wars as well as victims of terrorist attacks that don't hate every member of the aggressor's group, and might have friends with them after the conflict.  The ones that are shell shocked don't typically feel romantically attracted to the group, although there are exceptions of course.

I don't think he'd actively be racist towards any Qunari.   I don't think he's changed that much; I can't see Varric hating ever single member of any group just because of how they were born.  Perhaps very cautious, leery, but not hating every member of the race.  I also think the gate might happen, but not just because of Kirkwall.  Remember, Tallis was of the Qun and thanks to her, he found himself battling a wyvern and almost starting a huge political SNAFU.  So far, the ways of the Qun have come back to bite him in the arse twice.  We all know that our Qunari isn't of the Qun and I'm pretty sure we can tell Varric as such.  That doesn't mean that the association would ever entirely go away.  Combine the two and I don't see how a romantic attraction would work.

On the other hand, this would be the perfect time for a romance arc with a Qunari Quizzy, who teaches him that not all Qunari are born of the Qun.  That helps him overcomes his mistrust of every member of the Qunari race, as well as his past with Bianca.   Talk about an awesome battle couple.  Just be standing there, she would have an expression that reads as, "Just try it," with a look from Varric like, "Oh please do.  Bianca was getting bored."

I think the romance would also look lovely, especially thanks to the "One Size Fits All" fanart that Aimo did.

Human--I really doubt this one.  I didn't even know about the "not into humans line," until after I started posting full time back in November.  I had never done the Merrill romance and to this day, I've done it only once on my only male Hawke.  That seems awfully obscure to put it in one conversation in one part of the dialogue tree during an entire romance arc.  I figure that Hawke was being enough of a jerk to hit on Varric in front of their lover, so Varric was trying to be a gentleman.  Considering, you know, Merrill was standing right in the room at the time.   :P

That's just what I figure, anyhow.

It's humid here.  This is one of the driest states in the US and it's been humid for almost a week.  I don't mind too much, but the ones that were completely born and raised here are miserable.

Oh, I bet you will. ;)

Hehe, just teasing you.  Since I'm going dwarf, I'm not sweating any potential Varricmancing.  I've already got my second character planned for the other guy I think is just the hottest: Dorian.  Auron will be my human warrior's name and look, and I'm going to go after those gorgeous blue eyes on that character.

Rain is great, but 90 degrees at a mile above sea level at 90% humidity?  That's a little much.  I didn't move here until I was a teenager, and I lived in humid climates prior to that point.  Typically, this time of year we're lucky to see above 10%.  We live in a semi-arid environment, which is why the natives are about to keel over over the last few days.

Also, da hubby is on the graveyard shift, so bad thunderstorms wake him up during the day.

Good morning! So, i see we are hoping for less bitter players than the Mass effect fan base. As someone who got the collectors edition day 1 and beat it before even knowing what ending to expect... Well, I can see still being bitter. (Literally never did a 2nd play through until last month). Being angry though? Nah. They tried to fix it some (for free no less) and they learned from their mistakes.

As for comic con- I actually doubt they'll talk about dragon age "new" news that much, if all the press is on mass effect, They are safer sending a look at us message to newbies and giving out gameplay details, etc than giving character names (that many comic con people may not know) as romances. It's too, "in the loop" and may turn away the people there who might be onterested in starting the franchise . We don't want them to feel already out of the loop and like they can't start the series from here. Gameplay is a safe Segway into that

My only worry if he is an LI is that I won't be able to pick someone else.

Me: Okay, time to romance this person with this character.

Varric: Hey babe.

Me: ~SWOON~

You guys are insane! I leave the thread for one day to marathon thought "In The Flesh" and you're almost on page 200. So, anything I missed?

Also I just had a crazy thought about the red lyrium shard. We know that red lyrium can make you go batshit insane and make you fixate on certain obsessions. We also know that Varric takes pretty big issue with Iron Bull/The Qunari in general. What if, in a save state in which Varric was given the lyrium shard, and Isabella was given to the Qunari (which would fuel his bitterness against them even more I should think) Varric goes temporarily nuts and tries to kill Iron Bull...

Just a random musing of mine.

This is me with Isabela/Fenris

I always say I'm going to do a romance with Merrill or Anders. But... Then ... Isabela comes along for the Hawke I had planned for Merrill or Fenris distracts me from Anders

Did you know about the Varric fans on tumblr willing to help us with Operation: Muffin?  If Varric is a LI, it'll probably make things like setting up a paypal account easier, and I can grab the bakery info.  Also, I'll be able to get the Edmonton address as well as the US dollar to Canadian dollar exchange rate.  That is, if someone on tumblr doesn't beat me to that first.
