A shame.

The man has an infected leg and is developing a blood clot in it as well.  He's on vicodin, blood thinners and 2 types of antibiotics.  He's probably feeling tired, achy, and probably still a little loopy if his tweet yesterday is any hint.  I edited my post out of a sense of compassion for the guy.  I'm cutting him some slack, although I do get frustrated with snarky answers to yes or no questions.  

 

Not to mention I really do try hard to keep unneeded negativity from coming into this thread in particular.  

 

That hasn't changed, but I'd rather think about Varric's animal mask.  Lions are too common in Orlais, although that would suit Varric with his golden mane of chesthair.

 

Edit: Gotta practice what I preach in here and ranting about a snarky answer from the writers is a trashy thing to do.

Poor DG is sick, tired, hurting and a little messed up on medication.  I actually feel a little bad for venting like that earlier, but that's why I deleted the brief rant.  

 

So, animal theme masks for Varric: What do you think would look good on him?  I'd say fox, but I could see Sera rocking that much easier.

You were totally right that he'd make a fantastic lion. Yeah, it's a common animal, but I think that's a plus. He's from a noble family but prefers to get his hands dirty and "slum" with the commoners.

We'll definitely need them for the haters if Varric gets announced. Which no doubt there will be....whether because they think "he should be with Bianca instead" or "but he's my best friend!".....never understood either of those arguments against him being an LI. Bianca's been gone for years and it's not healthy for him to be pining for so long. And if you'd rather he stays your friend, just don't romance him! But don't take it away from those of us who'd like him to be something more....

Personally, I think the Bianca situation should be resolved before getting into a romance with him. What they could do is have a personal quest (accessible by a friend or otherwise) and at some point in that mission they could allow you to give your input on whether Varric should move on or continue hoping. When you select the moving on option you could be able to be acknowledged by him as more than a friend. They could do this by allowing your flirt dialogue to stack throughout the game or allow you to flirt with him after the quest and he will act on those flirts once he is over Bianca.

Edit: But yeah, a Varric romance is possible, so I am not at all doubting the possibility of Varric being a romance.

To touch on this briefly: I am happy to write to DG about my concerns about his tone over text to his blog when he isn't so sick.  

 

In the meantime, he's a guy in his 40s that's very ill and is a workacholic.  I guess right now I'm not seeing David Gaider, senior writer from BioWare.  I see David, a guy that did too much overtime for the love his job and pushed himself harder than he should have.  As someone that's a little to close too 40 for comfort herself, I can understand.

Maybe. Honestly, though, if I'd been dating someone but I haven't seen them in ten years, I'd consider things pretty solidly resolved. Just my take.

Not that simple though, especially if you've allowed the person to build up in your mind.  Ten years is a long time, true.  However, that time could be used not just to get over someone, but that time could be used in an unhealthy manner to build up the ideal of that person and that love in your mind.  Over the years, rose colored glasses can build up that pillar (in this case, for Bianca) so high, that no one might seem to be able to compare.

 

As I've stated in various threads, I don't want Bianca to be a forced bad guy.  That would irritate me, actually.  I do think Varric needs to see the real Bianca again, in order to dispel the myth of her he seems to have built up in his mind

While I love the idea, I keep thinking of Blackwall for a wolf.  Varric keeps bouncing back to fox for me, and perhaps a sleek cat for Sera instead.

 

Maybe I'm just bias though.  I love foxes and I even have a winged fox tattoo on the top of my right arm.

Right, I definitely don't want to make it sound like Bianca just up and left for no reason - we don't really know what's going on there. I would agree on that. It would have been nice if he had moved on. Unfortunately, though, he still seems to have Bianca (the weapon) so I doubt it is resolved just yet. Hopefully we will resolve it in DA: I. It's starting to get a little weird.

Oh, I wasn't taking your words as such.  I have gotten the feeling from the first time I talked to Varric about Bianca in DA2 that there was a lot that happened.  I'm sure that one didn't just split on the other, something drove them apart.  

 

I found it telling the first time I played DA2 and Merrill was asking Varric about his crossbow.  I couldn't help but notice the usually gregarious and wordy skuld (storyteller) was being rather quiet on the subject, and actually seemed hesitant to talk about it all at.   Shy and Varric very rarely go together in DA2, so it caught my attention.

 

I'm not sure what would irritate me more: Hitting the real Bianca with the Villain Bat, or killing her offscreen.  I think he needs some closure as well, and I think the player would like some too.  Hell, I'd like to meet this woman and have more than a Fade Nightmare as shaky backstory.

Oh, I wasn't taking your words as such.  I have gotten the feeling from the first time I talked to Varric about Bianca in DA2 that there was a lot that happened.  I'm sure that one didn't just split on the other, something drove them apart.  

 

I found it telling the first time I played DA2 and Merrill was asking Varric about his crossbow.  I couldn't help but notice the usually gregarious and wordy skuld (storyteller) was being rather quiet on the subject, and actually seemed hesitant to talk about it all at.   Shy and Varric very rarely go together in DA2, so it caught my attention.

 

I'm not sure what would irritate me more: Hitting the poor girl with the villain bat, or killing her offscreen.  I think he needs some closure as well, and I think the player would like some too.  Hell, I'd like to meet this woman and have more than a Fade Nightmare as shaky backstory.

Very true. I guess I'm drawing a line between his personal quest and his romance arc. I think Bianca really needs to be addressed in his personal quest, because that's both a major part of his character and something that's been built up over a game and a comic series. On the other hand, I think it could make sense if the romance arc starts before that part of the personal quest. Or it could work the other way, both would make sense to me.

Amusingly, if I had to guess at an animal for Blackwall, based on what little I know, it would be lion.  An old, scarred Pride Lord with one good fight left in him.  His Pride is gone, his family lost to some disaster, but he keeps going against all odds to finish his life with some dignity.

Yea if the relationship were to end I would like it to be mutually agreed upon, not just make her go crazy and have to go through picking Varric up from a depression about "how she was not that way the last time I saw her" kind of way but instead have a "times have changed but I would still like to be friends" resolution. That, at least to me, sounds like a more interesting way of breaking off the relationship.
