For some reason I see Varric in a simple black eyemask.

Amusingly, if I had to guess at an animal for Blackwall, based on what little I know, it would be lion.  An old, scarred Pride Lord with one good fight left in him.  His Pride is gone, his family lost to some disaster, but he keeps going against all odds to finish his life with some dignity.

Wolves are extremely proud as well, and like lions, sometimes become lobos at the end of their lives.  A strong Alpha can lead a pack until it dies from old age.  Plus, I think that Johnny Cash song I picked for him has colored my views of his character considerably.

 

Besides, I think the only when we'd see in a lion mask would be Cullen.

I know Cullen's got that absolutely amazing Lion armor that I want to steal, but going by his personality, he's a loyal hunting hound, through and through.  He may have stepped up to lead his hunting pack when necessary, but he works best with direction from a huntmaster.

 

Did I mention I want to steal his armor?

Can we agree that, whatever it is, it should have some natural camoflage? I feel like that should be point one to consider - if Varric's going to wear an animal disguise, it's going to be a subtle one.

I can see that.  Foxes do and for some breeds, their fur changes from reddish brown to white in the winter.  The colors of a red fox can be actually pretty subtle and understated on clay or canvas, if done right.

I see more of a cat for Sera.  I think the heavy kohl around her eyes is more tricks of the engine, if you check out her character kit.  I put it on the OP of her fan thread.  She doesn't look like she's wearing nearly as much eyeliner.

...I could see someone modding Frostbite just to make that happen.
