I've been posting in it occasionally, I just don't understand people arguing to limit other peoples options. It's inevitable that someone won't get what they want. But why are we hoping for that ?

<shrugs> Beats me.   I think tensions has just peaked again in the thread, and folks are just nitpicking each other.  So I'm just staying away until the topic changes.  :P

Oh hey, I remembered that Varric had a skill called Bianca's Song.

WHAT IF HE WRITES YOU A SONG IN HIS LOVE SCENE.

I forgot to tell you how much I love this.  I think if the DA team did that, they'd hear me swooning from their office in Canada.  :D

At first I clicked like, then I said, no, that doesn't express my like enough. this idea deserves LOVE

Aww.

Seriously though, I really would love to see some character development from Varric.

No more laughing things off.

No more side-stepping.

No more secrets.

I want him to tell Quizzy that he never thought that he would ever have feelings like these again after so many years of shutting himself out, even from his good friend Hawke (if friendship is full, perhaps even a flag for Hawkes who flirt?).

But if he names a dagger after my inquisitor I'm set for the whole game.

Looks like you're gonna have to learn your crafting system and design him a really neat pair of daggers then :P.

After all, one could take him naming the crossbow after Bianca as sign of romantic attachment, and it might very well be, but he could have also named it "Bianca" out of respect for its creator. People like to have their inventions named after them.

Or at least start off laughing and side-stepping but warm up to Inquisitor and then share :)

Yes, Yes, Yes, to the last sentence. My Inquisitor needs to hear those words.

This, exactly.  I'd want him to just come clean to an Inquisitor for the friendship arc, with some extra lines and very sweet moments added for the romance arc.  I don't want to see him change, but I've noticed this really vulnerable and sweet aspect of himself poking out here and there in DA2.  No matter if he's a romance, I also want to see him grow as a character, and move forward with his life.

I would much prefer it if he was a romance, but he'll make a good story arc no matter what.  :)

I agree. The fact that Bianca designed the bow probably has a lot to do with the name for her. I wonder if Varric would have stayed so attached to Bianca the weapon if it had been designed by someone else (even though it is a nice crossbow). Or, opposite, if he would have stayed so attached to Bianca if he didn't have the constant memory of her in his hands.

  • Merrill: Is there a story behind Bianca?
  • Varric: There's a story behind everything, Daisy.
  • Merrill: So tell me!
  • Varric: I can't.
  • Merrill: Why not?
  • Varric: There was a girl, and I made a promise. Bianca is the only story I can never tell.
  • Merrill: You can't say that! Now I want to know even more!
  • Varric: That was the idea, Daisy.

I'll safely say it's an emotional thing.

Maybe you'll get a unique ore and it's a quest-related crafting thing? That'll be an interesting for a story arc though it would make an AMAZING romance arc.

I think his attachment to his weapon is mostly based on guilt. Whatever happened with the real Bianca, whether she died or they just got seperated. I think he feels incredibly guilty about it and taking care of the weapon she made for him is his way of atonement.

I say one chapter ends and a new one begins.

Bianca may be the story of how he might have failed its creator, whom he has an emotional attachment to.

The daggers could be the story of how he learned to forgive himself and find love once again, with their creator.  :)

Definitely. He will have to learn to forgive himself this game, whether in a romance or not. I think that the "end of the world" is a good setting for closure.

I suppose it can be his Companion Quest to earn his loyalty. But the romance arc will take the story further.

That's what I've been saying! Honestly, I doubt we'll get to craft him a unique dagger that gets named (sadly) but we'll always have our dreams and fanfiction for that :)

Why can't it be both? There's a lot of ways he could have used the crossbow's name to symbolize his emotional attachment to Bianca, and perhaps made her connection to the crossbow a little less obvious (which considering what they were involved in, sounds like a wise move). So he named the crossbow after something he associated with her (in this case her name) because he loved her, but he specifically chose to name it after her out of respect for her as the creator.

All I'm saying is that I don't want him naming anything of his after my character unless my character put the same amount of work, passion, and ingenuity into what s/he made for him as Bianca put into that crossbow. It'd be a disservice to Bianca's character otherwise. Which means those would have to be some really special daggers, because Bianca's a really special crossbow.

I never said it can't.

I see your point there. Wouldn't want him naming daggers after the Inquisitor if it was made without as much input as Bianca's crossbow. It has to be something special.

I vote non-magical electrical tazer daggers myself. Or super heated searing hot daggers. Because I love inventing wacky new technologies in medieval fantasies.

Impractical?  My dear, that's perfectly practical.  The ladies need something to look at when he's on break from shooting his foes.  :D

Bwahahaha!  I love that gif, looks I picked the perfect time to check up on the thread.

Sooo, I've been thinking everyone....I honestly don't think I'll be able to let Varric go if we can't romance him. It'll be like DA2, I accepted it and moved on ( by romancing Anders) but I still cared about Varric more than him. And if I had been forced to choose between them, (life or death situation) it was ALWAYS going to be Varric. I feel like it'll be the same with DA3 too, if I can't romance Varric, I'll be heartbroken. My Inquizzy will try to move on but in reality her heart will always belong to him. It doesn't matter who she's romancing, Varric will always  be priority. Even if that means sacrificing my LI to keep him alive, I'll do it. :? Sorry, Cullen....

Basically my Hawke/Inquisitor:

Does anyone else feel the same, or is it just me?

I mean, I will have an IB playthrough but I will be very very hurt if Varric is not an LI, even though it's not entirely a surprise.
